#Implement #reforms.
The practice of students repeatedly enrolling in undergraduate degree programs, not for academic advancement but to pursue disruptive political agendas,
is a gross misuse of the higher education system in Kerala.
These so-called "student politicians" exploit loopholes in university regulations by joining a degree course and abstaining from examinations.
And, after three years of campus agitation, abandoning the course only to reenroll in another undergraduate program elsewhere. This cycle of manipulation not only squanders public resources but also severely undermines the purpose of higher education.
Their constant presence in college campuses, often dominating the environment with politically motivated disturbances, creates an atmosphere of fear, chaos, and regression. This particularly affects earnest, academically inclined students from poor and average backgrounds who seek education as a means of upliftment.
Equally condemnable is the passive complicity of college managements and faculty, who tolerate and even welcome such disruptive elements merely to fill seats in an era of declining admissions. This irresponsible attitude prioritizes headcounts over educational integrity and contributes to the continued decay of academic standards.
With the introduction of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP), the potential for further exploitation has multiplied.
Unless urgent reforms are implemented to prevent back-to-back degree enrolments in the regular stream, Kerala’s campuses risk becoming breeding grounds for political extremism rather than centers of learning.
It is high time our university education regulations are tightened to eliminate this damaging practice that robs genuine students of their future and tarnishes the reputation of our institutions.
