Bigger the firm, bigger the News Maker!

Yahoo online search engine is a bigger firm than Manorama online and hence the new maker for Yahoo is Rahul Gandhi. When it comes to Manorama Channel, persons contesting for news maker of the year are persons lesser than Rahul Gandhi. The contestants for the final round are actor Dileep, actress Swetha Menon, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor and Metroman E Sreedharan. No doubt the new maker will be Swetha Menon because, of late, notoriety makes the news. Swetha Menon is on the beam by her notorious ‘on focus delivery’ and subsequent show with the new born.

I wonder why a learned man like E Sreedharan became a candidate in this foul play.

Rapistan

One wonders to see that women ruled Indian states are more vulnerable to rape crimes than other Indian states.  Latest incident is from Purachi Thalaivi  Jayalalithaa ruled Tamil Nadu where a girl was allegedly raped by a ten-member gang. And this is amidst the national outcry over the gang rape of a girl in Sheela Dixit ruled Delhi. Presumably the ten member gang which raped the TN girl was in Siberian forests cut off from whole world when the country is  protesting against the Delhi gang rape.

The rape incidents are quite ironic in a country where women are respected and even worshiped.   Corruption, lack of education, failure of law and order, huge sale of liquors and degradation of moral values are the root causes of all such disasters.

The fraudsters are seen unafraid of the punishment for a crime.  Though not possible for a total  check  harsh punishment should reduce recurrence of sex crimes. What we need is an effective and quick criminal justice procedure to punish the criminals. The police force will be equipped with modern scientific equipment and those criminals now working in the force should be identified and removed.

If not able to restrict the sex related crimes  then it would be better to rename the country as Rapistan instead of Hindustan.

Murder of policeman

Protest against brutality is right but murdering a policeman who is doing his duty is wide of the mark. Probably the protesters were lead by mob psychology and were misguided by someone who snooped into the crowd. The policeman’s tragic death is a lesson to all and steps should be taken to avert future recurrence. The family of the cop should be protected and sum of rupees 10 lakh declared now for the family is inadequate.

And before making further arrests in this respect the police should scan all videos related to the incident and identify the persons who beat up the cop to death. The criminals should not go unpunished.
The gang rape of the girl is a heinous crime but to get justice for one crime one should never commit another crime. Human life is precious whether it is that of the hapless victim of the gang rape or of  the honest cop who sacrificed his life.

Doomsday

The very bad news pouring from Delhi and elsewhere persuades me to wish for an immediate Doomsday. All the culprits of the Delhi rape case should be immediately hanged to avoid further bloodshed relating the incident. It is not the people but the media is to take restraint by not airing news in an exaggerated proportion. Everybody should remember that along with girl’s life the policeman’s life is also precious.

For quite long the country’s capital is not a safe place for women as many have bad experience in city buses and streets. The present agitation in Delhi is a shame on all political parties, not naming one, as they have no care towards such rape victims. Otherwise they would have framed laws protecting women by this time. Interestingly it is some offenders involved in sexual abuse cases and escaped from punishment by hook or crook, are arguing in law making houses for the hapless victim.

Some women organizations calling for a ‘women bandh’ in schools, colleges, offices, work places and houses is all rubbish. Do not set women against men and vice versa. Never deny opportunity of an elderly man’s humble desire to call a little girl sweetly and never throw away the gift he brought for the girl.

Mob psychology.

The huge protest at Delhi against gang rape defying the police force is a part of mob psychology. The agitators will soon become passive and they even not respond to their neighbour getting raped by someone. The Delhi victim’s case was the rarest but several similar incidents happen unnoticed or not protested. Has any agency any record of unmarried mothers among tribal communities who were tortured by gangsters?

We had witnessed recently that Anna Hasare’s protest against corruption that attracted many youths but it subdued because of reasons unknown. Likewise the present protest against gang rape will subdue soon. The youth protesters who jumped in street are all not that much virtuous.

A democratic country could admit only peaceful marches. Mass hysteria and mass violence should be proscribed. It is the responsibility of the government to punish sex maniacs. We need permanent fast track courts in all parts of the country for atrocities against women. All pending cases must be fast tracked and culprits should be punished. Our judicial system should be revamped for speedy disposal of cases especially those relating crime against women.

Bad taste

The remarks of the Delhi chief minister, Sheila Dikshit, that Rs 600 is enough to feed a family of five for a month is obnoxious. The Indian Coffee Houses run by a Thrissur-based cooperative society charge Rs 31 for one Masala dosa. By Dikshit’s logic, 20 dosas would then be sufficient to feed a family of five for a month.

Dikshit’s remarks are bound to make her party uncomfortable, especially since the Congress is hoping to take advantage of the newly launched scheme during the polls. Dikshit’s comments only reveal her ignorance. She needs to be educated about the existing ground realities. At a time when some people think nothing of blowing up huge sums of money in a matter of minutes, here is a chief minister who thinks it is possible for the poor to survive on paltry doles.

Unscrupulous businessman

Now it is the liability of Lord Venkateshwara of Tirupati to wash off all sins and save Vijay Mallaya from all his wrong doings. Mallaya could have paid off dues of employees of Kingfisher Airlines instead of offering three kg of gold to the Lord.

If he wanted to do some good, he could have adopted villages to give good education to poor children. It would take decades for people like Mallaya to understand that serving mankind is like serving God.

It is equally bad for the temple to accept money from an unscrupulous businessman who earned money by selling liquor and ruining a thousand households. The country should make laws to confiscate money accumulated in temples and other places of worship. It should be diverted to feeding the poor and educating them.

CPI-M leader's arrest

The arrest of the CPI-M leader, M M Mani, can be attributed to the error of his counsel who advised him not to turn up for a polygraph test for the probe in connection with his controversial speech on the need to weed out his party rivals. His arrest is not a piece of big news; his crime deserves punitive action. The CPM-M, now rather ineffective in Kerala, has called a bandh in Idukki. There may be another hartal if the party's district secretary ~ also an accused in the case ~ is also arrested. Mani's speech has embarrassed the party which must rein in the loudmouths.

It is Modi’s magic that worked wonders in Gujarat.  It is more a victory for Modi than BJP. There is no match to Narandra Modi either in his party or in others. The victory is a check to Congress leaders for their wide spread corruption.

Nevertheless, the argument that Modi is the future Prime Minister of India is absurd. If Modi want to be the future PM he has to do a lot of home work as India is a little larger than Gujarat. And for this Modi and his company should learn to accept every Indian as its citizens and that too not by religion. Modi should try to give up his communal garb.

Instead of death penalty...

Re Delhi rape case. These things happen in Delhi because of some of the criminal politicians support from back to the type of criminals for using them in their unlawful activities. The criminals have done this dreadful act because of liquor influence and the loose life style. The life of rape victims often becomes tragic but the rapists return unharmed after a few months jail term. So the argument that these criminals should be given death penalty is in the right direction..

Nevertheless, a more equitable punishment is the removal of the male organ that tempted the criminals to do the heinous act. If this is sternly implemented no one should dare to attempt such shocking act.

Liability for Lord Venkateshwara

Now it is the liability of Lord Venkateshwara of Tirupati to wash off all sins and save the humble son Vijay Mallya from all his wrong doings. Mallya could have paid up employees of King Fisher Airlines instead of offering three kgs of gold to the lord.  If he needs to do something good, he could have adopted villages to give poor children the good education. He could also have been abstained from liquor manufacturing as many thousands of families have been  ruined by consuming the products made by his company.  A man who believe in God truthfully, do honest job and in Mallya’s case it is not so. It would take decades for people like Mallya to understand that serving mankind is serving god.

It is equally bad for a temple to accept money from an unscrupulous business man who earned money by selling liquor and ruining thousands.. The country should make laws to confiscate money accumulated in temples and other worship places and it should be advantageously diverted for feeding the poor and educating them.

MLAs with laptop and iPad

It is a novel gesture by Speaker G Karthikeyan permitting the Members of Kerala Legislative Assembly to use laptop and iPad in the House. Let us hope that the new facility would help improve the performance of the members in the House. And if they use these gadgets for variety purpose as done by the members of the Karnataka Assembly, then never allow that news to leak out from the house.

Moreover, those seventy plus members who are unable to differentiate iPad and sanitary pad should be given awareness class to avoid further embarrassment. Nevertheless, more interesting stories are expected from the house about the use of laptop and tablet because we have past story of a minister keeping his clothes in a brand new refrigerator.

Insensitive remarks by Delhi CM

The remarks of Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit that 'Rs 600 is enough to feed family of five for one month' is obnoxious. This I say for a simple reason. Indian Coffee Houses run by Thrissur based cooperative society in Kerala charges Rs 31 for one ‘masala dosa’. Hardly one gets 20 dosa for rupees 600. Does Delhi CM mean that 20 dosa is sufficient for a family of five one month. In my opinion not even a single rupee is needed if all the five members lie down and watch the sky for all the days in a month

Ms Dikshit’s remarks are bound to make her party uncomfortable, especially since the Congress would be hoping to take advantage of on the scheme in view of the assembly elections that are slated next year. The party is already promoting the latest venture, due to be implemented on April 1 next year, with a slogan, 'aapka paisa, aapke haath' (your money in your hands), as one for the aam aadmi. If Sheila Dikshit has said as reported it is sure that there are ignorant people, as PM put it, among Chief Ministers too. Dikshit needs some sort of education to understand the way in which the country lopes.

Ms Dikshit comment is derogatory and insensitive as they are the people who spent Rs 600 per minute for themselves and ask a family of five to sustain for one month with Rs 600. The Delhi CM should be ashamed of making such irrelevant statement.

Maudani again in the limelight.

Who said  All India Muslim League is  not a secular political party? If anyone has doubt look at the comment by the central minister and leader of the Muslim league E Ahmed. He said he would not allow any Muslim to suffer in jail.  His party’s secularism is very clear with the word ‘Muslim’ instead of ‘citizen’

‘Let bygones be bygones’ is a good motto. Forget and forgive the past. What Abdul Nazar Maudany said and done is a past story. He was in Coimbatore jail for about nine years and now about twenty eight months in Bangalore jail and that too without any trial. This is sufficiently a human rights violation case, nevertheless, more interesting is the interference of political parties in Maudani’s case.  Maudani’ jail term is a subject of discussion among political parties during election time, however, now without any election in the offing all parties in Kerala took the matter intently and the most provoking comment is from E Ahmed. The word ’Muslim’ in his statement is highly confrontational and for this single reason he is unfit to stay as a member in the Central Cabinet.

And in Maudani’s case what former Kerala chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan said is acceptable. Maudani should get justice from the court and it is not the ruling UDF or the official faction of the CPM to decide Maudani’s fate. If there is any sluggishness in the proceedings of the court it is due the fault of  all political parties which ruled India time to time.

Double charge by KSEB

Photo

For quite long the KSEB has become a nightmare to power consumers in Kerala. And with the regulatory commission permitting it to levy double charge per unit from consumers using above 300 units in a month is an added misery.  It is a pity that there is no substitute for KSEB when all other sectors have been privatised by the Government.
The KSEB action of load-shedding for one hour a day is a futile gesture. It is a ploy to hoodwink the poor and to promote the inverter industry. The rich ones find no problem during power cut because of  the backups they maintain at home and offices.
The frequent hike in power price not only siphons consumers’ money but increases the price of essential commodities.

Post-mortem time.

It is the post-mortem time in Kerala. Soon after the inquiry and arrest of one-two-three killers M M Moni et al, the Kerala Police has taken over re-investigation of the murder case of  KT Jayakrishnan in Kannur in 1999. The Government took the decision to reopen the case on the basis of the disclosure made by TK Rajeesh, arrested for the murder of TP Chandrasekharan.

And enquiry on the killing of Nalppadi Vasu and few others are in the offing. If this trend continues more and more police men would be recruited to meet the growing need. The hell-bound street duty of the police to squeeze two and four wheeler owners to fill the state coffers need much man hours of the police. And if post-mortem cases increase in the recent proportion there would be high dearth of the police men to maintain law and order.

Clarification of VS

by Bagira Zotyo

V S Achuthanandhan's clarification on his recent statement saying he had not uttered anything about the party making moves to remove him from the post of opposition leader, is true.  A clever politician is like this.  And I wonder why the other comrades in his party often fails  to read between the lines. They think a clarification of the sort from VS  would remove all doubts  of the ever confused party cadres.

Is Kodiyeri the person who stitched the clothes of the Opposition leader? The conspirators in the UDF  can disclose it if the media is incapable of finding the fact.

The quashing of FIR against former Kerala chief minister VS Achuthanandan in the land-deal case by the Kerala High Court single bench is a huge setback for the Oomen Chandy government. Though Chandy retrieved his lost ground a little through a stay order by the division bench  of the HC the initial blow was too heavy. The single judge’s observations against Chandy government are severely damaging.

Presumably severe pressure from two key allies viz Kunhalikkutty and R Balkrishna Pillai to act against Achuthanandan was forced Chandy to land up in trouble. The observation by the court that the vigilance department was looking for a nail, after deciding to crucify somebody is severely damaging for any democratic government.  Dealing a case legally and  politicallyin Kerala  means ruthlessly targeting a political opponent .

Draconian rule

The Norwegian rule of punishing parents for what is called an ill-treatment of their son is draconian. If reports can be believed what the parents have done is a curative measure to save their child from future trouble. Perhaps the Norway Government would look after the boy in the absence of their parents; nevertheless this law is not suited to India where the parents have the sole responsibility for the well-being of their child. Children often make annoyance because of their age and it is the duty of their parents, and not anyone else, to correct them.

The people should keep off work in tyrannical countries like Norway if they are really interested in the welfare of their sons and daughters.  Norway is denying the right of the child to get parental love by putting the parents in prison. No Government in the world can make substitute arrangement for parental care.
