Bad taste

The remarks of the Delhi chief minister, Sheila Dikshit, that Rs 600 is enough to feed a family of five for a month is obnoxious. The Indian Coffee Houses run by a Thrissur-based cooperative society charge Rs 31 for one Masala dosa. By Dikshit’s logic, 20 dosas would then be sufficient to feed a family of five for a month.

Dikshit’s remarks are bound to make her party uncomfortable, especially since the Congress is hoping to take advantage of the newly launched scheme during the polls. Dikshit’s comments only reveal her ignorance. She needs to be educated about the existing ground realities. At a time when some people think nothing of blowing up huge sums of money in a matter of minutes, here is a chief minister who thinks it is possible for the poor to survive on paltry doles.
Yours faithfully,
