#Tragic deaths
The tragic deaths of a nomadic woman near Chittur and five members of a nomadic family in Thrissur, who were crushed by lorries while seeking refuge in vulnerable spaces, reveal the stark inequality in how human lives are valued.
These incidents, reduced to mere columns in the inner pages of dailies, expose a disturbing bias in media coverage. Had the victims been wealthy, their deaths would have sparked public outrage and endless panel discussions. The lives of marginalized communities should not be disregarded simply because of their socio-economic status.
The government of Kerala must acknowledge this injustice and provide adequate compensation of at least ₹20 lakh per person to the bereaved families. These lives matter, and society must act to ensure they are not forgotten.
