Recurrent waste

#Recurrent waste
The recent elections in Kerala, which replicated the results of previous ones, highlight a significant waste of both financial resources and manpower. Priyanka Gandhi's victory in the Wayanad Parliamentary Constituency, alongside Congress win in Palakkad and CPM win Chelakkara, did not change the political landscape but drained public funds and disrupted normal governance.

These elections were triggered not by unfortunate circumstances like death but by the voluntary resignation of sitting MP and two MLAs, seeking better prospects. Such avoidable elections are a colossal waste that taxpayers should not bear.

To curb this unnecessary expenditure, it is imperative that a new policy is introduced where, if an MP or MLA resigns for any reason other than death or incapacitation, the runner-up from the previous election should be given the opportunity to serve the remainder of the term. This would not only save vast amounts of money and resources but also maintain continuity in governance.

Parliament should consider passing a resolution in this direction to prevent such recurrent waste in the future.
