#Impractical #distraction
Efforts to enforce gender neutrality in language are an impractical distraction from more pressing issues. Gender is a biological reality that cannot be erased or modified through linguistic manipulation.
Instead of focusing on real problems that affect women, such as violence, harassment, and discrimination, the Kerala Women’s Commission is wasting resources on symbolic changes that have little impact on real life.
Words and phrases that have been part of our culture for centuries reflect the realities of human experience, and attempting to erase them or artificially neutralize them does not change the biological or social distinctions between men and women. Rather than pushing for unnecessary reforms in language, the focus should be on meaningful actions that improve the safety, dignity, and opportunities for women.
The idea of gender neutrality is inherently contradictory to nature. Gender differences are an essential part of human identity and society, and they should be respected, not diluted. Words like "housewife" or "bangle-adorned hands" reflect realities that should not be stigmatized or erased under the guise of neutrality.
Nature itself recognizes gender differences, and society has evolved around these distinctions. Efforts to neutralize language overlook this fundamental truth and veer into absurdity, like trying to turn a hen into a rooster by placing a flower on its head.
Instead of indulging in such exercises,
energy should be spent on tackling the actual challenges faced by both women and men, rather than undermining the natural order of things.
