One could not understand the immediate reason for the political leadership to hard-press common people of Kerala for a protest on the issue of Mullapperiyar dam. Doesn’t Purachi Thalavi know the death-defying state of the Mullapperiyar dam? If Kerala is not against supplying water to TN in future why do they oppose the construction of new dam? The political leadership has miserably failed in settling down the issue without drawing in the people of Kerala to the street. As known to all it is not an easy task to construct a new dam with immediate effect to replace the old dam. What we needed is to keep the water level in the existing dam as low as possible.
If scientists are quite sure of the dangerous state of the dam the Government of Kerala should immediately abandon it. The lives 30 lakh people in Idukki, Ernakulam, Kottayam and Alappuzha districts are more precious than the floral farming in TN.
