NCERT's text book alterations.

#NCERT's Textbook Alterations
There is now a controversy surrounding NCERT's decision to alter references to the Babri Masjid demolition in school textbooks. Minister M B Rajesh's critique of NCERT's stance highlights a significant issue of governmental overreach. Rajesh has little right to speak about educational matters. Alteration of textbooks falls under the purview of the Education Department led by Minister V. Sivankutty. This raises questions about jurisdictional boundaries within Kerala's government.

The tendency of Kerala ministers to encroach upon each other's departments, exemplified by Minister Riyas and now Minister Rajesh. It is alarming and disruptive to effective governance. Instead of engaging in such interdepartmental friction, Kerala should consider its own prerogative to publish textbooks, ensuring they reflect the state's cultural and historical perspectives independently of NCERT's directives. This would preserve the state's autonomy in educational matters. It would foster a more cohesive and informed curriculum for Kerala's students.

Commendable action

#Commendable action
This is to express my deep concern regarding the rampant malpractices observed in the operations of matrimonial websites, as highlighted by the recent ruling of the Ernakulam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.

The case where a young man was promised a wedding match but was left uncompensated after paying a fee is indeed alarming. The imposition of a fine amounting to Rs. 28,000 on the matrimony website for misleading claims underscores a widespread issue affecting countless consumers.

It is disheartening that such platforms, often affiliated with national dailies, continue to exploit public trust despite charging substantial fees. The lack of effective government oversight and the complexities of legal recourse often leave victims without adequate redressal.

The proactive stance taken by the Ernakulam consumer forum is commendable and signals a step in the right direction towards ensuring accountability and transparency in the functioning of these services.

Commendable Stance

#Commendable stance
I applaud the recent decision by Kerala University's Vice Chancellor, Dr. Mohanan Kunnummal, to deny permission for a stage show featuring Bollywood porn star Sunny Leone at the University College of Engineering in the Karyavattom Campus. It's a commendable stance, reaffirming that educational institutions are not platforms for such content.

However, the vigilance should extend beyond administrative action; the Registrar's prompt communication with the police is crucial to ensure the enforcement of this decision and to maintain the integrity of our educational spaces. It's imperative that we uphold the values of academia and foster environments conducive to learning and growth.

Surendran mistaken

#Surendran mistaken
Srejith Panickar's role in bolstering BJP's presence in Kerala cannot be overstated. Through his insightful debates and strategic social media presence, he has effectively articulated the party's message to the masses, helping sway public opinion in favor of the BJP. His ability to engage with diverse audiences and communicate complex political ideas in a clear and accessible manner has undoubtedly contributed to the party's growing popularity in the state.

Moreover, branding Panickar as a "liar" by Kerala BJP chief K Surendran is not only unwarranted but also reflects poorly on the leadership within the party. Such personal attacks distract from the real issues at hand and undermine the constructive contributions of individuals like Panickar. Instead of resorting to name-calling, BJP leaders should recognize and appreciate the efforts of figures like Panickar, who are instrumental in expanding the party's reach and influence in regions where it traditionally struggled to gain traction.

K Surendran's questionable associations and alleged involvement in clandestine dealings with the incumbent Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, not only undermine the integrity of the BJP in the state but also betray the trust of the electorate. His failure to maintain transparency and uphold ethical standards erodes public confidence in the party's leadership. Given the looming elections, the BJP must prioritize the appointment of a new, competent leader who can inspire trust, integrity, and credibility among the voters. Failure to do so risks further alienating the electorate and jeopardizing the party's prospects in Kerala.

Man with a Heart.

#Man with a heart.
Suresh Gopi's journey as a Malayalam cine actor is not just marked by his captivating performances on screen, but also by his profound generosity and compassion off-screen. His selfless acts of financial and moral support, devoid of any consideration for caste or creed, exemplify his noble character and empathetic nature.

Suresh Gopi's commitment to serving humanity transcends the boundaries of his profession, earning him admiration and respect from people across Kerala. His transition from the silver screen to the realm of politics reflects his unwavering dedication to making a positive impact on society, embodying the true essence of a man with a heart.

As Suresh Gopi assumes the role of Union Minister, the people of Kerala rejoice in knowing that a leader of his caliber now represents their interests at the highest echelons of government. His decisive actions and unwavering resolve to address the pressing issues facing the nation instill hope and confidence among citizens.

While some may speculate about the challenges of balancing his political responsibilities with his acting career, Suresh Gopi's steadfast commitment to public service reassures us that he will leverage his influence and resources to uplift communities and foster inclusive growth. With his tenure as minister, Suresh Gopi has the opportunity to leave an indelible mark on the socio-political landscape of India, setting a precedent for future leaders to emulate.

Deep trouble

#Deep trouble.
This is to express my deep concern regarding the alarming influence of the Malayalam film "Avesham" on the impressionable minds of our youth. It is distressing to witness how certain scenes from the film have not only been emulated but glorified by individuals, leading to reckless and dangerous behavior in our society. The recent incidents of youths and goons replicating vulgar and violent acts portrayed in the film, such as cutting cake with swords and disregarding traffic rules, are deeply troubling.

The irresponsibility of the regional censor board in allowing such content to be released to the public cannot be overlooked. Questions must be raised about how a film depicting such explicit and potentially harmful content was given the green light for distribution. It is imperative that the censor board be held accountable for their oversight and that measures be taken to ensure stricter scrutiny of films before their release. Failure to address this issue not only tarnishes the reputation of our state but also poses a significant threat to the well-being and safety of our citizens.

Gender inequality

Gender Equality in Kerala Politics.

The recent election results in Kerala have once again highlighted a distressing reality. Not a single woman has secured a seat in the 20 MP seats allocated to the state. This glaring absence of female representation is not just a setback for gender equality; it's a stark reminder of the entrenched biases that persist in our political landscape.

How can we claim progress towards empowerment when half of our population is systematically excluded from decision-making roles? It's time to address this apathy towards women in politics and strive for true equality and inclusivity in our democratic processes.

Exit poll farce

#Exit poll farce
The recent predictions of the 2024 India elections have left many scratching their heads and questioning the credibility of exit polls.

With the BJP projected to win a landslide victory with 390 seats and the INDI alliance expected to secure around 290 seats, the math simply doesn't add up when the total number of seats exceeds the capacity of the Lok Sabha by 140. This glaring discrepancy calls into question the accuracy and reliability of such forecasts. This leave us to wonder if watching these predictions unfold on TV is indeed a pastime better suited for the jobless.

It's high time we demand more transparency and accountability in the electoral process to ensure that the voice of the people is accurately reflected without the theatrics of exaggerated predictions.

Troubling nexus

Troubling nexus.
The troubling nexus between Police  and criminal elements is evidenced by a recent dinner party attended by a Deputy Superintendent of Police with a notorious Goonda in Thammanam, Kochi. It sheds light on a deeper issue within Kerala's police force.

Stories involving figures like Monson Mavumkal further highlight this concerning trend. This apparent collusion erodes public trust and undermines the very fabric of justice.

Addressing this requires stringent measures, including thorough investigations, accountability at all levels of law enforcement. Reforms to ensure transparency and integrity within the police force are required. Without swift and decisive action, such incidents risk tarnishing the reputation of police force. Perpetuating a culture of impunity should be checked at any cost

Teachers' concern

#Teachers' concern
The concerns expressed by college teachers regarding the potential impact of the introduction of four-year degree courses in Kerala are understandable. But they are seemingly somewhat exaggerated.

It is true that any significant change in the education system can create uncertainties. So we need an approach te this issue with a balanced perspective. Rather than succumbing to fear, college teachers should adapt to the evolving educational landscape by exploring innovative recruitment strategies. They should emphasize the unique advantages of new  education system.

Instead of solely relying on traditional recruitment methods, they could consider reaching out to students at the high school level to showcase the benefits of pursuing a college degree. Collaboration between colleges and schools could foster a smoother transition for students This would  alleviate concerns about low admissions. While change can be unsettling, it presents opportunities for growth and adaptation.

It's imperative for college teachers to remain proactive and resourceful in navigating the new education changes rather than resigning to fear.

Bishop is right

#Bishop is right
I express my support for Bishop Joseph Kariyil's recent comments regarding the portrayal of content conflicting with Christian beliefs in recent Malayalam films. His criticism, voiced at a church-organized event for children, rightly addresses the concerning trends in cinema that glorify violence and alcohol use, which contradicts the values upheld by many in our society.

Singling out films like 'Aavesham', 'Premalu', and 'Manjummel Boys' for their depiction of such themes is a necessary step in initiating a dialogue about responsible filmmaking and its impact on our culture, especially on impressionable young minds. The bishop's remarks also shed light on the regulatory shortcomings of the censor board in addressing these issues. The apparent reluctance or inability of the censor board to enforce guidelines that uphold moral standards in cinema is indeed troubling. .

It's high time that authorities take a proactive stance in ensuring that films adhere to ethical standards, rather than merely focusing on box office profits. We must collectively strive for a film industry that reflects and respects the values of our diverse society, rather than perpetuating harmful stereotypes and behaviors.

Goondaism

#Goondaism
The recent surge in goondaism in Kerala is deeply concerning and indicative of a worrisome trend. The ongoing special drive to apprehend these offenders is crucial in restoring peace and security in what was once known as "God's Own Country." With over 5000 arrests already made, it is evident that concerted efforts are being made to address this issue.

However, it is imperative for authorities to delve into the root causes behind this surge in criminal activity and implement long-term solutions to prevent its recurrence. The safety and well-being of Kerala's residents should remain paramount. And for this decisive action must be taken to reclaim the state from lawlessness.

Comedy of errors

#Comedy of errors.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan seems to be on a world tour adventure with his family, raising eyebrows and triggering criticism from opposition parties.

While his previous visit to the U.S, Cuba, and the UAE in June 2023 stirred controversy, his current trip to Indonesia, LuAE, Singapore and other undisclosed destinations is shrouded in mystery. What's notable is his exclusion of China and North Korea, perhaps a strategic move to avoid further political backlash.

The composition of his entourage, including his wife, daughter, daughter's minister husband, and grandson, raises questions about the nature of this trip. With its purportedly "private" nature, Vijayan may not  claim no expenses  incurred from the state exchequer, leaving many to wonder who will lead Kerala in his absence.

The absence of a clear succession plan amidst uncertainty about his return only adds to the political circus, making Kerala's governance seem like a scene from a comedy of errors rather than a model of effective leadership.

Trivial issue escalated

#Trivial issue escalated
The incident involving  Mayor Arya Rajendran and the KSRTC driver Yedu certainly highlights a concerning trend where a minor traffic offense escalated into a larger controversy. While such incidents are not uncommon, the disproportionate attention it garnered suggests underlying factors at play. The backlash against Mayor Arya Rajendran seems to stem from a combination of factors, including her visibility in the media, allegations of corruption, and perhaps broader discontent with her leadership.

In a democracy, the media plays a crucial role in holding public officials accountable. However, when the media fixates on relatively trivial matters at the expense of more significant ones, it raises questions about journalistic priorities. While it's essential to report on instances of misconduct or controversy involving public figures, there should also be a balance  And that should ensure that attention is proportionate to the gravity of the issue.

Harassing individuals involved in such incidents, especially if they are lesser in position, serves little purpose other than sensationalism. It detracts from more pressing matters that require public attention.

Mayor-Driver Episode

#Mayor-driver episode.
The apparently misguided youth is the strength of the Kerala CPM as there are no senior leaders to correct the mistakes made in public by the young leaders of the party. Developments in the Mayor Driver controversy reveal this. The only hope is that of The Kerala State Human Rights Commission ordering an investigation into the incident.

Disrupting the duty of the KSRTC driver with a bus carrying passengers and humiliating him in front of the public is a serious offense. The seriousness of the offense testifies to the fact that it was committed by the mayor of the corporation, her husband Sacindev, an MLA and their relatives. Rulers who are obligated to protect the law have become lawbreakers.

While the mayor makes stupid outbursts in public, her MLA husband, who is likely to respond in public, seems to run away. The bus driver is also missing. It is surprising that the memory cards of the installed video cameras have not yet been found.

The temperature is soaring abnormally and people are desperate to combat the high mercury level. There is a serious electricity shortage and the government has no alternative measures to combat the electricity shortage. However, the public's attention was advantageously diverted by the idiotic episode of the mayor and the driver.

Poor power supply

#Inadequacy in power supply
The common people of Kerala feel mix of frustration and dismay over the recent spate of unannounced power cuts inflicted by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB). At a time when the mercury is soaring to unprecedented heights, these power interruptions not only inconvenience but also endanger the well-being of the populace.d. Though exorbitantly charged by KSEB there  is glaring inadequacies in their supply mechanism.

Furthermore, it is deeply troubling to observe the partisan nature of KSEB's power-cutting tactics. It seems that ministers' residences, MLA's abodes, and select posh areas are conveniently exempted from these outages, leaving the common folk to suffer in the sweltering heat. This preferential treatment not only reeks of injustice but also raises serious questions about the equitable distribution of resources. After all, if state funds are being utilized to power generators at ministerial residences, why should they be exempt from the same inconveniences faced by ordinary citizens?

It is high time for KSEB to adopt a fair and transparent approach to power distribution, where all individuals are treated equally irrespective of their social status or political affiliations.

The outbreak of violence and agitation during the last day of election campaign is concerning. It is the reflection of underlying societal tensions and political polarization.

People's inability to control their anger stems from a combination of factors, This include frustration with the political system,  and economic hardships, . And  lack of faith in the electoral process.is also a factor.

The failure to campaign peacefully highlights a failure of leadership, both from political candidates and from authorities who are responsible for maintaining law and order. The ideology

#The ideology
AK Antony's statement regarding his son's candidacy in NDA and the likelihood of his failure within the NDA raises questions about the integrity of familial versus political allegiances.

While familial ties are traditionally viewed as strong, Antony's assertion implies a greater faith in political affiliations than in his son's capabilities. This skepticism could be interpreted as a lack of confidence in his own offspring. It is a strategic maneuver to distance himself from nepotism accusations.

However, such actions undermine the public's trust and raise doubts about Antony's ideological consistency. By prioritizing political alliances over familial bonds, Antony risks alienating both supporters and critics. This would erode his credibility as a leader and casting doubt on the sincerity of his convictions.

This incident highlights the intricate interplay between personal relationships and political  dynamics.

Systematic error

#Systematic error
The failure of the Thrissur Pooram event due to high-handedness reflects a systemic issue within both the police force and the Home Department. Merely transferring a couple of police officials does not absolve the government of responsibility.

This incident underscores a deeper problem of ineffective oversight and accountability within the Home Department, where such lapses are allowed to occur. The government's attempt to address the issue solely through personnel transfers demonstrates a lack of commitment to addressing the root causes of the problem.

Without meaningful reforms and structural changes, similar incidents are likely to recur,. And that would undermine public trust in both law enforcement and government institutions.

Unwelcome oratory

#Unwelcome oratory
The clash between Kerala University's Vice Chancellor's directive and the controversial speech by CPM MP Brittas has stirred a tempest in the academic teacup. It raises questions of authority and electoral ethics.

As the Poll panel sought answers, the Registrar's report saying no poll violation in Brittas speech is surprising. The crux of the matter lies not just in Brittas' political prowess but in the fundamental balance of power within academic institutions. Does a Vice Chancellor's decree hold sway in the face of political privilege?. Does the ivory tower tremble beneath the weight of partisan rhetoric?

Brittas' unwelcome oratory dance on the delicate line between academic freedom and electoral integrity,. The whole episode

Cat and mouse game

#Cat and mouse game
The scenario paints a fascinating picture of the cat-and-mouse game between the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and S N Sasidharan Kartha, Managing Director of Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL).

Kartha's bold move of filing cases in HCs against the ED showcases his confidence. It might be  perhaps fueled by his perceived safety at home. However, likening the ED's actions to throwing a stone ahead of a running dog implies that Kartha underestimates the ED's intelligence and determination. It's a classic case of the hunter becoming the hunted, where Kartha's perceived safety might just be a temporary illusion in the face of the ED's relentless pursuit of justice. ED is now questioning  Kartha at his home.

Surey circus

#Survey Circus.
As we gear up for yet another election season in India, the cacophony of poll surveys has once again filled the airwaves, promising insights into the minds of the electorate. However, the recent contradictory findings regarding the upcoming Kerala Legislative Assembly elections highlight a glaring truth: poll surveys in India are often nothing more than a speculative circus. These sureys leave voters dizzied and confused rather than informed.

The fickleness of these surveys undermines their credibility and renders them little more than entertainment fodder. The divergent predictions from various agencies not only reflect the inherent biases and methodologies at play but also sow seeds of doubt and skepticism among the electorate. It  ultimately erode the very foundation of democratic decision-making.

It's high time we reconsider the relevance of these poll surveys and perhaps even contemplate their banishment from the electoral discourse to ensure a more sober and substantive public debate. After all, in a democracy, the voice of the people should not be drowned out by the noise of unreliable statistics and wishful thinking.

Selective charity

#Selective charity
The selective intervention of charity workers in cases of individuals facing death sentences raises serious questions about the consistency and integrity of their humanitarian efforts. While the release of Abdul Rahim through the payment of a hefty ransom showcases a seemingly altruistic act, the underlying motives of individuals like Boche (Roby Chemmannur), who is a gold merchant, cast doubt on the genuineness of their intentions.

The disparity in treatment between Abdul Rahim and Nimisha Priya, who remains incarcerated in Yemen facing a similar fate, underscores a troubling pattern of selective assistance based on personal interests rather than genuine humanitarian concern.

This discrepancy not only highlights the inherent flaws in the current system of relying on private individuals to secure the release of prisoners but also exposes the ethical dilemmas faced by charity workers who may prioritize their own agendas over equitable justice. The case underscores the need for greater transparency and accountability within the realm of charitable interventions, as well as a reevaluation of the efficacy of relying on individual benevolence to address systemic issues within the criminal justice system...

Ultimately, the disparity in treatment between Abdul Rahim and Nimisha Priya serves as a stark reminder of the complexities and challenges inherent in navigating the intersection of philanthropy and justice.

Welfare pension

#Welfare #pension
The Kerala State Government's stance before the High Court regarding the social security pension (SSP) is deeply flawed and unjust. By asserting that the collection of cess for SSP does not make the pension statutory and claiming that such pensions cannot be considered a matter of right, the government is neglecting its fundamental duty. It is the prime duty of the government to provide pension for its citizens, especially the elderly who have contributed to society throughout their lives.

It is erroneous for the government to label welfare pension as mere assistance rather than a rightful entitlement. Citizens contribute to the state's revenue through taxes throughout their working lives, and it is only fair that they receive support in their old age when they can no longer earn a livelihood. Pension schemes are not charity. They are a social contract between the government and its people, ensuring a dignified life for all citizens, particularly during their retirement years.

Moreover, the government's reliance on fuel cess for funding pensions further highlights the absurdity of its position. By collecting taxes specifically designated for social security purposes, the government acknowledges its obligation to provide for its citizens' welfare. To argue otherwise before the court is  contradictory. It undermines the very principles of social justice and solidarity upon which such schemes are built. Therefore, it is imperative for the Kerala State Government to reconsider its stance and uphold the rights of its elderly citizens to dignified and secure livelihoods in their later years.

Ruthless Pursuit

Ruthless pursuit
The rifts between political fathers and sons often stem from a complex interplay of personal ambition and generational shifts. Sons may perceive their fathers' leadership styles as outdated or incompatible with contemporary political realities. The latest example is the case. of Anil Antony and his father A K Antony.

This kind of approach from sons leads to a desire to distance themselves and assert their own identities. This can be exacerbated by the pressure to carve out their own political careers and the temptation to align with rival factions for expedient gains.

However, such actions carry significant personal and familial consequences, and straining relationships. The betrayal of familial ties for political expediency reflects a ruthless pursuit of power at the expense of integrity.

By publicly denouncing their fathers, these sons risk alienating themselves from their family's political legacy and betraying the trust placed in them. This unfaithful act not only undermines the familial foundation upon which their political careers were built. The pursuit of short-term political gains at the expense of familial ties leaves a bitter legacy of betrayal and regret. The common people will not trust such political sons in their future pursuits.

Use of fireworks

Use offireworks
As the scorching heat intensifies and reports of fires erupting in various places become more frequent, it's crucial to exercise extreme caution, especially with the approaching festival of fireworks, Vishu.

The combination of hot weather and fireworks poses a serious risk of igniting uncontrollable fires that can cause immense damage to property and endanger lives. Despite the evident danger, it's disheartening to see many people disregarding the importance of fire safety measures during this season.

To both the public and law enforcement authorities, one has to urge a collective effort to prioritize fire safety and enforce stringent regulations on the use of fireworks. It's imperative for individuals to understand the potential consequences of their actions with firecrackers. They. should act responsibly by refraining from engaging in activities that could augment the already precarious situation.

It is to be implored that the police to intensify patrols and vigilance to prevent unauthorized and unsafe use of fireworks. This should ensure the safety and well-being of the community during this challenging time.

Stain on values

#Stain on values.
The Kerala government's repeated targeting of honest officials like Dr. M Rema and Dr. Sisa, simply because they refuse to bend to political pressures, is appalling. It also a clear violation of their rights.

By dragging these principled individuals into cumbersome court proceedings, the government is not only wasting valuable time and resources but also sending a chilling message to other officials who dare to stand up for integrity and fairness.

It's evident that the Kerala government's actions are driven by a blatant disregard for meritocracy. And it is an unhealthy allegiance to political outfits like the SFI. Instead of appreciating officials who prioritize principles over partisanship, the government chooses to intimidate and harass them. This creates a toxic work environment where honesty is punished and corruption thrives.

The recent decision by the Kerala High Court to quash disciplinary actions against Dr. Rema is a testament to the government's failure to uphold justice and respect the rule of law. It's high time for the authorities to stop using the judiciary as a tool to suppress dissent. The government should start prioritizing the well-being of honest officials who strive to serve the people with integrity and dedication. Anything less would be a betrayal of the public trust. And it is  a stain on Kerala's democratic values.

#Antony and Son
AK Antony's statement calling for the defeat of his son, Anil Antony, the BJP candidate in Pathanamthitta, is indeed bold but unexpected. While on the surface, Antony's stance may seem admirable it raises questions about the underlying dynamics within his own party and family. This public disapproval could indicate internal strife  within his family.

Antony's statement challenges traditional notions of familial loyalty and dynastic politics prevalent in Indian politics. In a society where family connections often play a crucial role in political advancement, Antony's stance could be seen as a departure from the norm.. It highlights the complexities of familial relationships in the political arena.

Seemingly, the "Krupasanam Amma" rejected the request of Elizabeth, Antony's wife, who pleaded good prospects for her son. Antony and his son are not a role model for all fathers and sons in Kerala.

Vacation classes

#Vacation_classes.
The directive from Kerala's Minister for General Education, V Sivankutty, to state syllabus schools to avoid vacation classes raises questions about the government's interference in educational affairs that are strictly personal and private. While the minister cites complaints from parents and students as the basis for this directive, his lack of control over CBSE/ISC schools, due to a court order, adds complexity to the situation.

This differential treatment between state syllabus and CBSE/ISC schools raises concerns about fairness and transparency in educational governance.

The suspicion arises from the lucrative nature of the entrance coaching industry in Kerala, which is worth millions of rupees. Entrance coaching centres rely on schools being closed during vacations to attract students for additional coaching. The directive to avoid vacation classes could potentially benefit these coaching centres by limiting competition from schools. The lack of clarity surrounding any potential deals between the Minister and coaching centres fuels speculation about ulterior motives behind the directive.

To address these concerns, transparency is crucial. The Minister's office should provide clarification regarding the reasons behind the directive and address any suspicions of collusion with coaching centres. Additionally, stakeholders, including parents, students, and educators, should be included in discussions about educational policies to ensure that decisions are made in the best interest of students.

Government overreach

#Government overreach
When a state consistently ignores court orders, it undermines the very foundation of the judicial system. This may erode public trust in courts.

To address this, courts must have the authority to enforce their orders effectively. One critical solution is to empower courts with the ability to hold government officials personally accountable for non-compliance. This could involve imposing fines, contempt charges, or even criminal penalties for willful disregard of court orders. And this must be done in short time frame.

Establishing an independent oversight body to monitor and ensure compliance with court decisions can serve as a deterrent to government impunity.

Moreover, legal aid services should be expanded to provide support for individuals who cannot afford representation in court. This ensures that all citizens have equal access to justice, regardless of their financial situation.

Strengthening accountability mechanisms within the government can also help prevent abuse of power and ensure adherence to the rule of law. By reinforcing the authority of the courts citizens can maintain their faith in the judiciary. Courts should be a quick and reliable source of recourse against government overreach.

Celebrating Easter

#Celebrating Easter
This is to express my appreciation for the recent efforts made by the BJP-led government in India, which have enabled the Christian community in Kashmir to celebrate Easter after a significant hiatus. This milestone is a testament to the dedication and inclusivity demonstrated by the government, and it serves as a beacon of progress for religious harmony in the region.

The BJP government's commitment to ensuring the rights and freedoms of all religious communities is commendable. By facilitating the return of Easter celebrations to Kashmir, the government has not only upheld the principles of secularism and pluralism but has also fostered a sense of belonging and acceptance among minority groups. This achievement is a shining example of the positive impact that government policies can have on promoting unity and diversity within society.

We should all extend our congratulations to the government for this significant milestone in fostering religious tolerance and inclusivity in Kashmir.

Misguided action

#Misguided action
The recent series of legal battles initiated by the Kerala government against the Centre and even the President of India serve as stark reminders of the state's misadventures under its current administration.

The Supreme Court's refusal to grant interim injunction in Kerala's suit against the Centre, coupled with the rejection of the petition for separate loans, highlights a concerning trend of imprudent governance. Instead of focusing on constructive dialogue and cooperation, Kerala seems determined to pursue confrontational tactics, this ultimately jeopardizing the interests of its citizens.

Furthermore, resorting to legal action against the President of India for withholding bills passed by the Kerala assembly reflects a troubling disregard for constitutional norms and principles. Such drastic measures only serve to deepen existing divides and undermine the fabric of democratic governance.

It's high time for the Kerala government to prioritize responsible leadership and collaborative decision-making over misguided confrontations, for the betterment of the state and its people.

Asset Declaration

#Asset Declaration
As the electoral season unfolds, the ritual of asset declaration by candidates has once again taken centre stage. Yet, it often seems to resemble a theatrical performance more than a genuine display of transparency. Take, for instance, the case of Dr. Thomas Isaac, the LDF candidate from Pathanamthitta, whose recent declaration raised more eyebrows than it did shed light on his financial standing.

In a bizarre twist of fate, Dr. Isaac's declaration painted a picture of financial destitution, with no land, no house, and no gold to his name, but rather an impressive collection of 20,000 books. While his scholarly pursuits are commendable, one cannot help but wonder about the glaring omissions in his declaration. What about the conspicuous absence of his colorful kurthas, or the substantial earnings accrued during his tenure as a teacher at CDS, and his multiple stints as an MLA and Finance Minister in Kerala? The absurdity of the situation begs the question: how can a seasoned politician like Dr. Isaac suddenly find himself on the brink of bankruptcy?

In an age where optics often overshadow substance, the charade of asset declaration serves as a sobering reminder of the disconnect between political rhetoric and reality. It's high time we move beyond the theatrics and demand genuine transparency from our elected representatives.

Breastfeeding

#Breastfeeding!
Well, it looks like Congress is adopting a classic "shoot for the stars, land on the moon" strategy. With their ambitious promise to reserve 50 percent of central government jobs for women, they are clearly aiming to go beyond the moon and straight into the cosmos. But alas, their journey may look more like a crash landing than a triumphant landing.

With poll experts generously estimating a Congress victory of just 40 seats, one can't help but wonder if they plan to run the government from a comfortable studio. Perhaps they intend to win the hearts of the electorate with promises so grandiose that even reality takes a backseat. Who needs a majority in Parliament when you have promises big enough to mask the lack of seats?

It's like showing a hen waiting to breastfeed her chicks.

#Emergency fundraising

#Emergency fundraising
It  is already a financially challenging time for many people.of Kerala. Then the decision by the Congress party to resort to emergency fundraising through coupon distribution at the grassroots level raises concerns about the potential burden it may place on the people.

While political parties need resources to conduct effective election campaigns, the timing and method chosen by the Congress party could exacerbate the financial strain on the electorate. This approach also opens the door for other parties to follow suit, further burdening the populace.

Given the potential ramifications on the electorate and the fairness of the electoral process, it is imperative for the Election Commission to intervene and establish guidelines or regulations regarding political fundraising during election periods. Such measures could ensure transparency and  prevent undue influence. It will also protect the financial well-being of citizens.

So it is essential for electoral processes to prioritize fairness and integrity, safeguarding the democratic principles on which they are built.

Four-year Degree Course

#Four-year Degree Course
The shift in preferences among students towards professional courses or overseas education indeed poses a challenge for traditional three-year degree programs in Kerala. The government's decision to introduce four-year degree courses might seem ambitious in this context, but it also raises concerns about its effectiveness.

Will these longer programs align with the evolving needs of students and the job market, or will they merely serve as a platform for political activities on campus?

Introducing four-year degree courses could potentially create a breeding ground for student politics, with longer durations allowing for more time and space for political engagement. However, the absence of a balanced student body with leaders and followers could disrupt the dynamics of campus life, raising questions about the overall student experience and academic environment.

Furthermore, the implications extend beyond students to teachers, whose livelihoods might be at risk due to potential job losses resulting from low enrollment in new four-year courses. Thus, while the government's initiative aims to address the changing educational landscape, it also raises pertinent questions about its feasibility and impact on various stakeholders within the education system.

Aadujeevitham

.
#Aadu Jeevitham
Investing heavily in marketing for a film, especially without a solid foundation of content, can often lead to wastage of resources. While marketing is essential for creating awareness and generating interest, it cannot compensate for a lackluster or mediocre film.

The case of Blessy's "Kalimannu" serves as a poignant example. Despite initial marketing efforts like the unique concept of shooting the delivery of a woman using four cameras, the film failed to resonate with audience. This highlights the importance of focusing on substance over style in filmmaking.

Furthermore, relying solely on marketing gimmicks can create unrealistic expectations among viewers. When these expectations are not met upon watching the film, it can lead to disappointment and negative word-of-mouth, ultimately impacting the film's box office performance.

In the case of "Kalimannu," the initial hype generated by the unconventional marketing tactics failed to translate into sustained interest for the film. This emphasizes the need for a balanced approach to marketing that aligns with the film's actual quality.

Therefore, the success Blessy's latest film 'Aadu jeevitham' lies in its ability to connect with viewers on an emotional or intellectual level. While marketing can help create visibility and attract audiences, it cannot compensate for shortcomings in storytelling, and direction. Therefore, instead of investing disproportionately in marketing, filmmakers should prioritize honing their craft and delivering compelling content that resonates with audiences.

Would unconventional marketing of the film Aadujeevitham bring a good fortune for Blessy and company, is only a matter of time.

Unprecedented move

#Unprecedented move
It is a matter of concern that the recent unprecedented move by the Kerala government to petition the Supreme Court against President Droupadi Murmu's decision to withhold assent to four bills passed by the State Assembly.

This action, while unusual, reflects the government's determination to challenge what it perceives as a hindrance to its legislative agenda. However, such a direct confrontation with the highest office in the country raises serious questions about the balance of power and the respect for constitutional norms.

Moreover, it's disheartening to note the recurrent practice of the LDF government in Kerala to resort to legal battles, often ending up in the High Court, at considerable expense to the state exchequer. The allegations of corruption and kickbacks in these legal proceedings only exacerbate the situation, casting doubts on the government's motives and priorities.

Ultimately, it is the people of Kerala who bear the brunt of such actions through wastage of public funds and a potential erosion of trust in the government's ability to govern responsibly.

In light of these developments, it is imperative for all stakeholders to uphold the principles of democracy, transparency, and accountability. The repercussions of the government's actions could extend far beyond legal battles, impacting the socio-economic fabric of Kerala. Therefore, it is incumbent upon the government to reassess its strategies and prioritize the welfare of its citizens above all else.

Nosediving Indian stocks

#Nose-diving Indian Stocks
The recent downturn in the Indian stock market has undoubtedly caused distress among investors, particularly the average ones who have seen their hard-earned money diminish. The timing of this decline coincides with comments made by the newly appointed SEBI chairperson, Madhabi Puri Buch.  As she hails from the private sector it's tempting to speculate on her motives.  Her untimely  comment about Indian stock market undermines the integrity of the regulatory body.

This situation does highlight the importance of transparency and accountability within regulatory institutions. Moving forward, it is imperative for SEBI and other regulatory bodies to operate with the utmost transparency, ensuring that decisions and statements are based on thorough analysis. It should be  ensured that regulatory officials are held accountable for their actions and statements.

Furthermore, investors themselves must exercise caution and diligence in navigating the stock market.. While the recent market downturn may raise concerns, it also serves as a reminder of the importance of robust regulatory oversight and investor education. Prudent investment practice are required  in safeguarding against future downturns.

Comedy show

#Comedy Show
It's quite the comedic to see political parties engage in a tangled web of contradictions while trying to maintain their stance against the common enemy, the BJP. The recent exchange between Shashi Tharoor of the Congress and CPI General Secretary D Raja perfectly encapsulates this irony.

Tharoor, expressing disbelief at the CPI's opposition to Rahul Gandhi's candidacy in Wayanad while simultaneously facing resistance from the CPI in Thiruvananthapuram, highlights the absurdity of political alliances. Meanwhile, D Raja's retort about the left fighting against communal and fascist forces adds another layer to the farcical drama.

As voters, it's becoming increasingly challenging to decipher the true motives behind political maneuvers when parties seem to switch allegiances and rhetoric at the drop of a hat. The concept of the 'India Front' intended to unify against the BJP loses its legitimacy when its own members are engaged in internal squabbles. It mirrors the very divisiveness they claim to oppose.

The voters deserve transparency and consistency from their elected representatives, and not a circus of contradictions that leaves them scratching their heads in confusion. It's high time for political parties to prioritize genuine unity and coherence in their actions if they wish to earn the trust and support of the electorate.

Kerala model medical care

#Kerala model medical care
The recent incident involving a woman struggling to find treatment for her nose bleeding child across four government hospitals in Kerala sheds light on the dire state of healthcare services in the state. Despite Kerala's reputation as a leader in the health sector, such incidents highlight systemic failures within government-run hospitals. The inability of these hospitals to provide timely and adequate medical assistance reflects poorly on the quality of healthcare services and infrastructure available to the public.

The case also underscores the frustration and desperation faced by many patients and their families when seeking medical care in government hospitals. Long wait times, low facilities, understaffing, and a lack of essential medicines often characterize the healthcare system in Kerala. Instances like these not only expose the challenges faced by patients but also raise questions about the efficacy of government policies and the allocation of resources within the health department.

Moreover, the response from political figures like Chintha Jerome, who deflect criticism by offering food packets as a solution, only serves to highlight the disconnect between government officials and the realities on the ground. While providing food to patients is undoubtedly important, it cannot substitute for the urgent need to address systemic issues such as infrastructure deficiencies, staff shortages, and procedural bottlenecks plaguing government hospitals. The incident underscores the pressing need for comprehensive reforms and greater accountability within Kerala's healthcare system to ensure that every citizen has access to quality medical care when needed.

Time to resign

#Time to resign
The decision by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to halt the driving test reforms following discussions with key stakeholders sends a strong message about the collaborative nature of governance in Kerala.

By engaging with representatives of driving schools the government demonstrates its commitment to inclusive decision-making and addressing the concerns of various stakeholders. This move showcases a proactive approach to governance, prioritizing dialogue and consensus-building over unilateral decision-making.

The implication of this decision on Minister Ganesh Kumar's position is intriguing. It raises questions about the extent of autonomy and authority within his department. If the halt on reforms signifies a lack of control or influence, it indeed prompts reflection on whether Minister Ganesh Kumar is effectively positioned to lead reforms in his domain. In that case it is better for minister Ganesh Kumar to resign from his post. Ganesh Kumar's leadership is not effective  in driving a meaningful change.

Server malfunction

#Server malfunction
The recent server malfunction affecting the priority ration card mustering in Kerala highlights a recurring issue that has plagued the state's administrative systems. The reliance on technology, particularly servers, has often led to disruptions in essential services, causing inconvenience and distress to citizens, particularly those dependent on subsidized food through the ration card system. This incident underscores the need for robust infrastructure and contingency plans to mitigate such failures and ensure uninterrupted service delivery.

Moreover, server malfunctions extend beyond ration card mustering, affecting crucial processes like salary and pension distribution for employees. Such repeated occurrences raise questions about the preparedness and efficiency of the state authorities in managing technological systems. Blaming servers for administrative failures has become a convenient scapegoat for authorities, deflecting responsibility from addressing underlying issues in infrastructure and system management.

While technology has undoubtedly brought advancements and efficiencies, its implementation in Kerala seems to have encountered significant challenges. The sentiment among many Keralites reflects frustration with the perceived drawbacks of computer-assisted mechanisms, viewing them more as a curse than a boon. This raises the imperative for a reevaluation of the state's approach to technology integration, reliability, and accountability. The technological advancements should truly benefit all citizens without causing undue hardships.

Harrowing incident

#Harrowing incident
The tragic death of the judge involved in the Kerala University youth festival bribery scandal is indeed a harrowing incident. The circumstances surrounding the judge's death, purportedly by suicide, raise questions about the pressures and ethical dilemmas individuals face in such positions of authority.

The incident sheds light on the pervasive issue of corruption within Kerala's political and bureaucratic circles. The string of bribery cases, extending from ministers to student leaders, underscores systemic issues that breed an environment ripe for such unethical practices.

The judge's decision to end his life underscores the immense psychological toll associated with corruption scandals.. The tragic death of the judge serves as a somber reminder of the urgent need for systemic reforms and ethical governance practices in Kerala and beyond.

Books for fun

#Books for fun
The recent proposal by the Kerala government to introduce open book examinations in the school curriculum is a source of frustration and perplexity. Although the intention was noble in theory, the practical implications of such a decision seem akin to putting a bandage on a sinking ship. It seems that the authorities have confused with innovation and progress.

One can only imagine the scene where students frantically flipping through pages, searching for answers as if on a treasure hunt. The invigilators would  look on them.with a mixture of amusement and fun. If this is the future of education, then we might as well say goodbye to critical thinking and rigorous study habits.

It’s as if we are encouraging students to build a house of cards rather than laying a solid foundation for their future progress. In reality, the absurdity knows no bounds.

MLA run for MP

#MLA run for MP
It is a common issue in democratic systems where sitting MLAs run for MP positions. This triggers by-elections and costs both taxpayers and constituents time and money. The scenario in Kerala's Vadakara Constituency, with K K Shailaja and Shafi Parambil vying for MP seats, illustrates the potential for financial strain and disruption caused by frequent elections. To address this, Parliament could enact legislation to prevent sitting MLAs from simultaneously contesting for MP positions, thus averting the need for costly and disruptive by-elections.

While preventing sitting MLAs from running for MP seats could reduce the frequency of by-elections, it's crucial to ensure that this doesn't infringe upon their rights or limit political participation. And for this the sitting MLAs should be asked to resign from their  present post to contest for MP seat.

Additionally, any legislation should include provisions for exceptions in cases where by-elections are unavoidable, such as due to unforeseen circumstances or the resignation of MLAs. By enacting laws to mitigate the impact of simultaneous MLA and MP candidacies, Parliament can uphold democratic principles. This will also safeguard public resources and minimize disruption to governance.
