Stop the liquor trade.

Liquor in the state will become more expensive as the Beverage Corporation agreed to raise the rate by 10%. This will surely affect ordinary people who find pleasure in cheap liquors.

With the bad policy of the government, Kerala has become a country where ordinary working people spend their hard earned money on alcohol and lottery. But the liquor trade is a loss for Kerala as BEVCO recorded a loss of over Rs 1000 crore last year.

In this case, the government should stop the liquor business and turn it over to private companies with the necessary regulations so that the government can make a huge profit from the liquor business.

Staff currently working at BEVCO can be advantageously assigned to other departments where employees are needed.

Discussion of an inexecutable project

It is good to see that the state government has decided to listen to former railway engineer Alok Verma and others who raised strong objections against the technical feasibility of the SilverLine project. Along with Alok Verma, Subodh Jain, RVG Menon and Joseph C Mathew will also attend the meeting.

It is known to all that K-Rail is an unworkable project which does not serve any particular purpose for the commuters in Kerala. It runs parallel to the Indian Railway, causing unforeseen damage to the current traffic system. Other than K-Rail, Kerala needs major development in health sector, industry and agriculture The water bodies of the state need protection. There should be rehabilitation for the oppressed.

Neglecting all this, the Kerala government push for the One Lakh crore K-Rail project is bound to siphon off the borrowed money. This will put Kerala in danger.

Whatever the outcome of the proposed discussion between the experts for and against, the project will not be accepted by the people of Kerala. Silverline is not good for Kerala

So why can't UGC recommend BTech and BDS at the same time? Similarly MBBS and BAMS simultaneously?

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the BJP-led Union government and the opposition Congress are hampering the state's development prospects. And for him, K-rail is only a development activity. As it takes more than 12 hours to travel from north to south of the state by road  K-Rail is a necessity for Kerala.

But in fact, the proposed K-Rail.project will displace more than 20,000 families in this densely populated state. It will cause serious damage to the environment as it passes through wetlands, paddy fields and hills. No serious study has been done on the project.

Many experts have also pointed out that it is not economically viable. Projects that are planned without considering the effect on agriculture and farmers in the state cannot be termed as development,

The Kerala government is heading towards another Nandigram with K-rail  unless it reverses its adamant attitude.

The threat of the drug mafia is at its peak in Kerala, especially in the Alappuzha district.

The mafia has developed several methods to obtain and sell narcotics. Their final target is mainly students and young people. And in this process, they even kill those who stand in their way.

The latest such incident is the killing of a person in Kumarapuram, Alappuzha district on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Sarath Chandran of Vairankode..  In Mavelikkara, another person was stabbed and a house was burned down by the mafia. There are also reports  from Poochackal' about repeated drug dealing.

The root cause of this threat is the inability of the authorities to act. Due to police inaction, the gangs continue to thrive and expand their network. It must be deduced that the mafia gave free rein with the help of a few unscrupulous police officers

However, Minister AK Saseendran preventing the Forest Department from registering a case against the boy who entered the prohibited area is interesting. Does the minister have the power to deal with criminal offences?

After all, what is this boy's name in the school records? If he is charged stating his name as Babu, the case will not stand as there will be none with the name Babu. His hiking buddy says he went to the top of the hill to hoist the flag. What flag? Is it the national flag?

The whole episode looks suspicious. Therefore, investigation is necessary throughout the episode. The boy and his companions should be identified and action should be taken.

The autocratic rule of CPM in Kerala is once again exposed by the issuance of an ordinance which allows the government to regulate the powers of Lok Ayukta. The decision to limit the power of the Lok Ayukta is a major shift in LDF government policy. The Lok Ayukta ordinance was not discussed up front.

In everything, be it K-Rail or Lok Ayukta, there is always something questionable. The CPI Secretary of State also doubts this line. The opposition is seemingly powerless to correct the corrupt practice of the ruling front.

Nobel Laureate Rigoberta Menchú once said: "Without strong watchdog institutions, impunity becomes the very foundation upon which systems of corruption are built. And if impunity is not demolished, all efforts to end corruption are in vain". By clipping the wings of Lok Ayukta, impunity becomes a bedrock in Kerala.

India's Supreme Court rejecting the Kerala government's plea to extend the trial in the actress attack case, is welcome. Otherwise, this case would have been prolonged indefinitely to divert ordinary people's attention from all the burning issues of the state.

Lately, it is a habit of the channels in Kerala to force people to move around issues involving sex and violence. The nun rape case and the actress assault case are examples. The hours that these channels have spent on these soap operas are far beyond any calculation. The recent Additional  Session Court verdict put nun rape case in the ashtray. Then, the channels began to overbroadcast the case of the attack on the actress.

 The general public has become too anxious about stupid issues of sex and violence. Households have become pornographic cinemas created by channels

The incident that a youth was murdered and the body dumped outside Kottayam East Police Station is chilling. This type of horrible act will happen in a state where Goondaraj is in practice. Is Kerala a state ruled by Goondas?

Mahatma Gandhi once said, "Society will not be ruined by those who have guns but by those who watch in silence."

This quote accurately explains the goonda raj of Kerala.

A bitter truth is that our police lack the courage to fight for something that is wrong with society. This may be due to interference from low level politicians. And if the state really wants to fix things, the police should give up their cowardice. If sees something wrong, immediate action must be taken and for this strong government support is needed. In the current law and order situation in Kerala, the police could not expect such support.

S Ramachandran Pillai's speech praising China at CPM Kottayam district committee meeting is controversial especially when China takes a stand against India on border issues and trade affairs.

Pillai expresses his loyalty to China and denounces India. If a Chinese citizen speaks praising India within his country, he would like not to be there to utter another word.

Some senior CPM officials in India have a close association with China under the presumption that China still promotes communism. But what's going on there is pure capitalism disguised as communism and every member of the Chinese Communist Party's politburo is a multi-millionaire.

Pillai declaring brotherhood with China is something against his motherland. Although a member of the Politburo, Pillai is a low profile leader who is unable to win an election in any þanchayat ward of Kerala. For him to win an election, he must run in one of the constituencies in China

The appointment of VC at Kannur University has become murkier with the current position of governor. Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has handed over the notice issued by the High Court of Kerala on the reappointment of the vice-chancellor to the state government.

The governor having already instructed his office to return the files relating to Kannur University to the government without taking a decision, it is the pro-chancellor's turn to take up the matter. The Pro Chancellor, the Minister of Higher Education. has already clarified that she has the right to write  letters to the Chancellor.

Moreover, the governor is correct in his position because the advocate general had said that he would not appear in the case for governor . There is therefore no other option for the governor than to relinquish the post of chancellor. The Governor is unable to appoint a private lawyer to attend his case in the High Court.

With all kinds of corrupt practices in the Ministry of Higher Education, the whole system got out of gear. Immediate maintenance is required for the system to function properly

The central government introducing a bill to link voter id with Aadhaar is a historic incident. Most law and order issues related to polling stations can be solved with this movement

Election officers are often reluctant to take on electoral duties due to problems with identifying the voter with a voter card or other admit card. In a voting booth where only one party controls the situation, electoral identity cards have nothing to do with the voting system. 

Due to fear, election officials often take secure positions to avoid trouble where some party henchmen control the booth. When the Aadhar card is linked to the voter ID, the vote resides on the voter 's finger and the poll official has no problem conducting a free and fair poll

When Aadhaar teams up with voter ID to stop bogus and fraudulent votes, why

do Congress and other parties oppose it? The linking  of voter IDs and Aadhaar does not violate any fundamental rights. Instead   it stops false votes.

Congressman Shashi Tharoor is always a strange man, whether he speaks for the Pinarayi government or shows up for a photo with the latest Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu. Tharoor was in the news for his opinions on the cattle class trip by Air India and also for his part in Cricket Sweat Equity.

This man with a good knowledge of the English language once confused former KPCC President Mullappally Ramachandran by writing a response in King's English. Mullappally was looking for Webster's dictionary to figure out the meaning of what Tharoor had written in the response.

A similar situation arises when the current president of the KPCC, K Sudhakaran, asks

Tharoor to explain his position on the praises of Pinarayi. To avoid the situation of asking for help from Webster's dictionary to understand Tharoor, Sudhakaran also asked him to meet in person.

In this regard, it is believed that Tharoor will unlikely go with majority Congress men, instead he will run with Pinarayi and contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Thiruvananthapuram as an LDF independent.

Dialectical materialism?

The state government began to think about plans to resolve issues over appointments to universities after Governor Arif Mohammed Khan sharply criticized the political interventions.

Meanwhile, CPM and CPI leaders have criticized the governor when the rift between him and the state government continues. CPM Secretary of State Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the governor's position on the nomination controversy was a mystery.

CPI State Secretary  Kanam Rajendran went one step further and harshly criticized the governor. He said the governor should not create a situation that would force the state to remove him from the post of chancellor.

Removal of the governor from a post without just cause is not permitted and can only be done by the President of India. There is no provision for the state government to remove the governor.

When the rulebook says like that, how can Kanam say the governor will be forcibly removed? When Governor  is ready to quit from Chancellor's post what is the need to push him out? Is it a part of dialectical materialism?

Dress code for teachers

The circular from the Department of Higher Education stating that teachers may wear any type of decent and comfortable dress during work is welcome. The word "décent" should be underlined.

I say this because when a dirty Malayalam film hy name  'Premam' came out, there were a lot of teachers attending schools and colleges wearing black shirts and white dhotis. It was very bad because the teachers should not resort to childish practices.

Currently, there is no rule requiring female teachers to wear only the saree, but some schools and colleges insist it. This is quite unseemly because the churidar is more comfortable than the sari at work and when travelling. Male teachers who come to colleges wearing T-shirts without wearing innerwear are disgusting. Does anyone think the T-shirt and Bermuda are decent for teachers?

Although the uniform dress is unacceptable, pants (dhoti) and shirts for male teachers and sari or churidar for female teachers are the most appropriate. All other dresses , though comfortable, are unacceptable.

Allopathy public health experts speaking out against the state government's decision to distribute Arsenicum Album 30c to students as a preventative drug against COVID-19 before schools reopen, is only natural. These people only have vaccines with a lifespan of 4 to 7 months. They have no proper explanation for why vaccinated people die from Covid.

The main concern of allopathic physicians is that the homeopathic medicine Arsenicum Album is a 17th century invented medicine and has no valid certification. It is quite foolish to ask such a question.

In Ayurveda, Chavanaprasam is a rejuvenating drug that has been used for years and if anyone is looking for a certificate for its authenticity, they are living in madman's paradise. Chavana or Agastya like sages never thought of keeping a certificate for their preparations. People use these drugs and feel a difference in their health before and after taking them.

Arsenicum Album 30 is not a medicine to treat Covid-19 but to prevent all types of viruses from attacking the human immune system. Since Covid-19 is a disease infected with a virus, it is natural to believe that Arsenicum Album 30 would  prevent it. There are also reports from several families where members who have taken Arsenicum Album 30c are not affected by Covid-19 while others who didn't take have been affected.

The fear of allopaths is natural. If Arsenicum Album 30 steals the show, the vaccine trade and associated allopathic treatment cease.

By this time, tens of thousands of people died from Covid19 and allopathists made huge profits with their vaccine and ventilator. Let people have the chance to have their choice for a while and see the effect of Arsenicum Album 30.

All educational institutions in Kerala will have Vimukthi clubs ahead of Gandhi Jayanti next year, Excise Minister Govindan said. It is about educating the younger generation about the threat of addiction to intoxicants.

It is true that we live in a time when even children fall prey to this evil. This happened because of the indifferent approach of the leaders. Although there is an age restriction for young people to access Bevco points of sale, it is not strictly enforced. Don't care  attitude of the Police and the Excise has made this state a green turf for drug dealers. Even some police officers are agents of drug dealers and they are making a huge profit from this dirty business.

Having established countless Bevco outlets all around Kerala, it is unwise to open Vimukthi clubs in compasses and lament that addiction to intoxicants has reached a dangerous level. Drug and liquor cases cannot be controlled by cosmetic treatment, but strict police action is required to catch drug traffickers.

Futilel hartal

So far, the Kerala High Court has issued numerous orders opposing hartal in Kerala. However, this time the court refused to oppose the hartal on Monday which was announced by LDF and UDF in support of the nationwide farmers' protest.

The court's observation that those who do not want to cooperate with hartal should have adequate protection if they want to go to work, will have no impact. As usual on Hartal's Day, people will stay home watching TV with snacks and drinks. None of them want to make a scene in public. State employees will receive their salary because one of the sponsors of the hartal is ruling LDF.

For the past year and a half people have been in a hartal mood with the lockdown, police case and fine over Covid-19 and they are all set to face the same thing one more day. Monday's hartal is futile.

There is nothing wrong with saluting an actor of national esteem. Actors like Mohanlal, Mammootty, Suresh Gopi etc., are national award winners for best actor and deserve greetings even if not requested

After the Corona virus and the Nipah virus, another virus that has seeped into the undereducated minds of Kerala is the Sir / Madam virus. No one should write greetings Sir or Madam in a letter or request.

After Mathur, Muttar and Ambalapuzha panchayats Angamaly and Paravur block panchayats in Ernakulam district also decided to ban the use of greetings like "Sir" and "Madam". The implication is that the virus spreads quickly

Greetings from Sir and Madam are vestiges of colonial rule, according to these narrow minds, but they have no suggestion for a proper greeting. They are all waiting for the State Language Institute to come up with alternatives

Not only that. They also decided to remove words like apeshikunnu or abhyarthikunnu (meaning I request) in letters submitted to the council or secretary of the local body. Instead, people can use avakashapedunnu (I demand) or thalparyapedunnu (I desire) because the people are the masters and the employees are their servants.

So the question is: could the people use the words ahwanam cheyyannu (I call) or Ajnapikkunnu (I order) because they are the masters. Our state is truly a kangaroo court where all those who wield the sword are enlightened.

Draconian recommendation

The recommendation by the Eleventh Pay Commission to form a recruiting committee inclusive of representatives of the management of private schools and colleges is curious. What else is going in that direction now? 

The presence of management representatives on recruitment boards is a major handicap and a cause of corruption. Videography of recruitment.procedure is a stupid joke to deceive onlookers. What is needed is to entrust the recruitment process to the Public Service Commission.

Likewise, raising the retirement age is a draconian idea and poses a direct threat to the thousands of qualified young people seeking employment.

Forgoing free healthcare

It all seems to be a lucrative business for the Kerala state government. A government order setting the rates for treatment packages for post-COVID complications for patients with APL in government hospitals is one indication. The government previously said COVID care would be free for everyone in government hospitals.

There are many educational institutions in Kerala which appoint teachers without any donation. Many of them have changed this policy now. The reason is that the new generation has lost values ​​and all philanthropic men are dead and gone. The same goes with the current government

 

At a time when people struggle to survive the economic devastation of COVID, alongside the ravages of the disease itself, the government forgoing free healthcare is ruthless.

People get corrupted under corrupt rulers. The irregularities of the Karuvannur Cooperative Bank are far beyond imagination. Siphoning over Rs 50 cr from 46 bank loans by a single person is amazing

There are over 3,000 cooperative banks statewide, and these banks are run by political parties. If the party leaders are corrupt, the followers also seek the same path. It is therefore very urgent to take a close look at the entire cooperative banking sector in the state, otherwise the people who have deposited their hard earned money in these banks will lose it forever.

Money and corruption ruin the state. Crooked politicians betray the working class by treating them like sheep. This modern sheep receives fodder in the form of occasional food kits.

A fight between traders and police in Kozhikode over Covid-19 regulations is an indication of poor management of implementing Covid protocols. The current approach of Covid protocols works for the rich and the salaried class while it hurts traders, workers and day laborers.

In states like Andhra, the practice is that it is not the duty of the government but of the people to observe the Covid protocols. Anyone refuses to obey the rules that he alone is subjected to damages and the government has no direct responsibility for this. Strict adherence to  lockdown in Kerala is a reason enough for people to congregate in public places when the lockdown is lifted. And it is a potential cause for the spread of Covid.

People have been dealing with Covid for about two years and most of them know how to tackle it.  So it is high time for the  government to consider whether to continue or not strict discipline in imposing Covid restrictions.

Gouri_Amma, the Red Star of Kerala

The first revenue minister of Kerala state and one of the founding leaders of the Communist movement in Kerala, is no more. Smt K R Gouri Amma  is dead.She was heading the Janathipathiya Samrakshana Samithy party.

With her candidature to Kerala Assembly Election in 2011, then 92-year-old K.R. Gouri Amma has made history and she was a sure entry to the Guinness Book of World Records. Gouri Amma was the only candidate to contest all the assembly elections till 2011 since the state first went to polls in 1957.

Gouri Amma’s candidature in 2011 had raised many an eyebrow for she contesting at such an old age when most other individuals retire from all activities at 70 at the most. The energy she gave to all others was very much as it persuades unoccupied people to do something rewarding in life. Though she was expelled from the Marxist party in 1994, the Marxist leaders were good in terms witth her just because of her unbridled courage and positive attitude to human life. 

 Long live the memory of Gouri Amma and her optimistic outlook.

Con-woman drama ends.

The drama played by various political parties in Kerala with Saritha S Nair, the con-woman in solar scam, is over. She was sentenced to 6 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 40,000 in connection with the solar scam.

The woman who defrauded huge sums of money from various people offering to install solar panels was a tool for left-wing parties to prevent the UDF from regaining power in 2016. Even the elderly Ommen Chandy was her target in the sex scandal. She even dared to challenge Rahul Gandhi in LS polls with the support of those political parties who were working in disguise behind her.

Thanks  to our judicial system as she was not allowed to commit a criminal act in the current Assembly election. Also for the next elections, she could do nothing because her prison sentence did not end until after 6 years.

Costly Pooram

Thrissur Pooram will be held without avoiding customs and abiding the COVID protocol, it is reported. No one will be allowed to attend Pooram without producing a  COVID negative  certificate. People over the age of 45 must present a COVID vaccination certificate.

It is interesting to note that in order to get a  Covid negative.certificate, people have to take a Covid test. In Kerala the RT-PCR test costs Rs 2,100. The GeneXpert test cost has been revised to Rs 2,500. Tru-nat is now at Rs 2,100. Antigen testing remains the same at Rs 625. In short, whoever wants to attend Pooram has to spend a lot of money. Children would not be allowed to attend Pooram.

If Pooram is not for ordinary people, to hold it is suspect. Pooram shouldn't be for protecting someone's ego. It should be for a cause.

Of course, festivals promote diversity and bring people together. They increase the opportunities for civic pride. However, if they are life threatening, it is best to avoid them.

The regret

Regret expressed. by  Devaswom Minister  Kadakampally Surendran on the incidents that took place in Sabarimala regarding the entry of women, is good but it will not work because the believers do not trust Kadakampally.

Moreover, Kadakampally is not the only authority to speak out on CPM policy issues. If it is said by Pinarayi or Vijayaraghavan, it has some substance, but the devotees do not trust them too. Funny to hear `` Namajapam '' rituals from AKG centre.

An extraordinary issue requires extraordinary action. That  is why the two-member Madhavan Nambiar committee report on Sprinklr was put into cold storage and appointed  a new three-member committee  for a fresh report.

And if the three-member committee report also goes awry, a four-member team will be appointed. The exercise will continue until next May and thereafter God only knows the fate of the report and of the government.

In fact, demonetization has helped reduce black money, increase tax compliance, and boost transparency despite its early hiccups. The present investigation carried out in Kerala by central agencies such as NIA, ED, Customs and Narcotics Department, is the consequence of demonetization. Gold smugglers and drug traffickers have to depend on transparent bank accounts and this has resulted in a flow of money from benami accounts to the drug trafficker's account in Bangaluru. This means the results of demonization have been of great benefit to national progress.

Dubbing artist Bhagyalakshmi and others make much fuss in Kerala psyche with their perverted feminism. Feminism is the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes and not hatred towards men.

So, the state government opposing granting anticipatory bail to Bhagyalakshmi and two others in the case related to the attack on a YouTuber, is in the right direction. In fact the trio two were  taking law and order into their own hands.

Allopaths and traditional practitioners in Kerala are locking horns after Kerala Health Minister K K Shailaja backed the effectiveness of homoeopathic medicine in curbing Covid-19 spread. While the allopaths are alleging that there are no scientific justifications for homoeopathic medicine's effectiveness in stopping Covid-19, the homoeopaths are accusing that even the allopaths are experimenting medicines and trying plasma therapy without any scientific studies.

In this tussle what is acceptable is the words of famous musician Yehudi Menuhin. He said: "Homeopathy is the safest and most reliable approach to ailments and has withstood the assaults of established medical practice for over 100 years". Yehudi Menuhin is considered one of the great violinists of the 20th century.

Against Privacy policy

Kerala Police collecting the Call Details Register (CDR) of COVID-19 patients, which includes their personal information, is a human rights violation. Patients do not have a criminal history and Covid does not preclude any basic human rights.

The right to privacy is a component of various legal traditions aimed at restricting government and private actions that threaten the privacy of individuals. More than 150 national constitutions mention the right to privacy. It is therefore wrong to give the police the power to invade the privacy of the public. Patients should not be deprived of their privacy.

Run for job

It is time for someone to take it to a court of justice as the number of appointments made through the Kerala Public Service Commission has dropped significantly in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. However, there is no decrease in backdoor appointments and the practice of making contract employees permanent.

The order making 47 temporary staff of the state library board permanent was issued during this COVID-19 period. The decision to appoint 80 people by creating posts at SCOLE Kerala, the state open school, has started. The administrative committee also approved the decision to appoint 36 people to the Youth Protection Council.

The LDF government of Kerala is doing whatever it takes, for the comrades. It is sad to see educated and test qualified young people  running pillar to post for a placement.

Order surprising

In Kerala the government had issued .strict instructions to all field officers, including the police, to control the spread of Kovid within 2 weeks. The order was issued by the Chief Secretary at the disposal of the Chief Minister.

I doubt it was a little late. The order was to be issued four months ago.

Diplomatic gold

The customs department has done a good job by seizing 30 kg of gold from an air cargo shipment from the United Arab Emirates to the country's consulate in the state capital of Kerala.

The Kerala government transferring its information technology secretary M Sivasankar amid allegations of his links to the gold smuggling racket is a serious problem and it highlights CM's involvement in the case. The current contraband of 30 kg of gold from a diplomatic shipment may not be the first.

The action of the customs department embarrassed the state government. The CM saying that he is not aware of appointments in his department is laughable. Even if he was not involved, he could have resigned from his post on moral  ground..

E-bus smacks of corruption

It has been reported that 10 electric buses rented by KSRTC are incurring huge loss. According to KSRTC each bus incurs a loss of Rs 7,140 per day. Then what is the advantage of buying new E-buses?

Hence, the plan by Kerala Government  to buy 3,000 electric buses at a cost of Rs 4,500 crore smacks.of corruption..The consultancy deal was given to Pricewaterhouse Coopers, a London based company This company is fighting .many  legal battles for corruption in the past. When Mls Tata, Ashok Leyland, Mahindra like Indian companies make E-buses, Kerala Government planning for a  purchase abroad, is suspecious.

Baleful decision

Any baleful decision taken during Covid time will not attract people's wrath. The Kerala government knows this well and that is why the bus fare has been hiked.

The minimum fare was Rs 8 for travelling a distance of 5km till date. Now it is for 2.5km, that is, a hundred percent increase. According to the new system, to travel 5 km distance, the fare will be Rs 10.The Kerala government, which is believed to know the extent of common man's plight, has refused to help them in a difficult time..

Rampant corruption

Under  Pinarayi administration corruption is rampant in every walks of life. The latest is the  cabinet decision to appoint K V Manojkumar as the chairman of the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. Manoj is the son of former CPM Thalassery Area Committee member KV Balan and is only a law graduate.

It is alleged that the appointment was made by flouting norms and the eligibility criteria. Earlier, the chairman and the members should be postgraduates and should have atleast 10 years experience in child welfare and protection activities. Manoj is only a graduate and has little experience in child welfare activities.

A slightly qualified chairman and highly qualified members in a State Commission reveals a corrupt government that had lost its hold on the affections of the people.

No need of mute police

It is  shocking to see the police remaining mute spectators to rallies when  participants make aggresive slogans claiming murder of opponents in the past. If a participant publically claims his or his party's involvement in past killing he can be arrested and questioned

This I say because there were such rallies in Kerala recently glorifying their  past killings and claiming they are ready to do it again. This sort of provocative slogans would create discontent among opponents. Hence, the offenders should be immediately questioned  by the police instead of standing mute.

Privatise KSEB

The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) chairman N S Pillai asking the consumers  to pay the electricity bill of lockdown period in five instalments, is amusing. Does he mean that consumers have no job other than to stand in queue before the KSEB Section office?

In the absense of Electricity minister, Chairman NS Pillai has become a media maniac uttering nonsense. What consumers needed is a rollback of the heavy current bill issued to them. The consumers are of firm belief that bills were prepared maliously to charge extra. The Karnataka government has waived off current bills for five months. Why Kerala could not waive off two months at least?

The Chairman also says  even if these bills are not paid, power connection will not be disconnected. This kind of talk is authoritarian and against the existing rules. The autocratic way of KSEB would come to an end if it is privatised and its present chairman is sent to corner.

Abandon online classes for tiny tots.

The Karnataka state government decision to stop online classes for children from Kindergarten (KG) to Class 5 is a welcome one. However, in Kerala, the government has no decision making in this direction. The Kerala government is searching ways to hand over smart phones and other electronic gadgets to  little ones.

The online teaching for LKG, UKG and primary classes has become a misadventure for tiny tots and their parents. These classes will adversely affect the  mental health of very young children and hence must be stopped in all schools whether government or private. Let the children enjoy their holidays for one more month till all are free from Corona scare.

Dam makes ecological damage

The Kerala state government has granted permission to KSEB to proceed with Athirappilly hydroelectric power project. Following this, the authority has decided to issue NOC for technical-financial and environmental clearance for the project. Interestingly this project was previously  deferred by the government.

The reason for such a decision is the huge commission that would generate in the purchase of cement and steel rods. Also, there is an eye in the sale of trees in the dam site.Whatever it may be,  this crafty plan under the mask of Covid-19 is unlikely to work out in Kerala  in the immediate future because the new generation is not unaware of the ecological damage that dams make.

What Jairam Ramesh said in this regard is correct. He said:By approving Athirapally hydel project despite opposition and expert advice, Kerala govt is inflicting ecological disaster. Indira Gandhi saved Western Ghats by stopping the Silent Valley project in 1983. That commitment, concern & courage (3 Cs!) for environment is missing today.

For better relationship

All war is a symptom of man's failure as a thinking animal. So it is a welcome move by India and China agree to continue military and diplomatic talks to resolve peacefully the border issue in accordance with bilateral pacts and guidelines. 

A month-long standoff in the line of control in Himalayan region has created tension among citizens of both the countries. An early resolution of the issue would contribute to the further development of the relationship between the two. "India - China bhayi bhayi" is a better slogan than any others.

Needed apolitical Commission

Kerala State Women's Commission chief M C Josephine's statement that her party CPM is functioning like a court and a police station, is controversial. She has no right to remain as the chairperson of an impartial government body like  the Women's Commission. 

Of late all the actions of  WC in Kerala is partisan. A legislative decision is needed to make the Commission  apolitical by selecting its chairperson and members from judicial forums and non-political organisations. No commision  should be permitted to violate the principles of the Indian Constitution.

Youth Commission in action

The Kerala State Youth Commission has charged a suo motu case on the incident in which the teachers were insulted through various social media platforms. Chintha Jerome, the chairperson of Youth Commission, noted in a Facebook post that those who make derogatory comments about the teachers who led the online classes  are a disgrace to Kerala and its culture.The Youth Commission has asked the State Police Chief to arrest the culprits as soon as possible and take legal action against them. 

Admittingly, one would like to say that not only teachers no one should be harassed via social media. However, Youth Commission's stand in this case seems questionable as it had a blind eye to the death a girl in a convent in Kollam and suicide of a ninth standard girl in Malappuram. The girl in Malappuram was died because of denial of online classes to her where the culprit is none other than the Education Department. The Commission that was dormant for years now coming with a single incident, is curious

Trolls ard tik-toks are the order of the day  and that could not be restricted by a partisan and inactive commission.

When #JacobThomas #retires

Jacob Thomas IPS, the troubleshooter turned troublemaker officer of government of Kerala, initially placed all his loyalty on  chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan under the presumption that he was the last action hero against corruption. With what was called yellow card, red card he  boasted in channels that he was going to fight against corruption. 

As a part of his fight against corruption he raided the residence of Chief Secretary KM Abraham, who was working in a higher position and that too was in the absence of Abraham and scared of his aging parents. The incident turned out as a bark on the wrong tree. The cunning political leadership who always played it safe, realized this stupidity and decided it was better to corner Jacob Thomas.

In the case of EP Jayarajan's cousin's appointment, rather than intelligently intervening, he placed emphasis on unnecessary initial publicity. He forgot that the ban on corruption is not just a sham. The book "Swim with sharks" is not pleasing to the government.

However, in the last days of his service, the government showed him injustice. The world is vast and the future is long. Let Jacob Thomas launch his crusade against corruption. Evidences in plenty can be found in his personal file.

Prevention is better

Despite all the precautions taken there is an unprecedented rise of Covid cases in Kerala. Friday  alone 42 cases were reported. This rapid increase of corona virus cases is seemingly a serious warning that the defense  mechanism in the state has to be increased

Interestingly, the cases reported are among  from  people who came to the state from outside. Since the lockdown restrictions are lessened there is chance for  social spread of the disease.

It appears that many people go out with children and old people defying Covid restrictions. It is, therefore, important for all to follow the lockdown directions. Prevention is better than cure

2018 ലെ മൺസൂൺ കാലത്ത് ചിലർ ചേർന്ന് ഡാം ദുരന്തമുണ്ടാക്കിയത് കേരളീയർ മക്കാറായിട്ടില്ല.. ഡാമുകളുടെ മോശം മാനേജ്മെന്റ്  മൂലം കൃത്രിമമായി സൃഷ്ടിക്കപ്പെട്ട വെള്ളപ്പൊക്കത്തിൽ അനേകം പേർ കൊല്ലപ്പെടുകയും  ഭവനരഹിതരാകുകയും ചെയ്തു. ഈ വർഷം മറ്റൊരു ഡാം ദുരന്തത്തിനുള്ള സാധ്യതയും തള്ളിക്കളയാനാവില്ല.

Don't wait for another flood

Keralites  still remember the man made dam disaster during the monsoon of the year 2018. Many were killed and many went homeless due to the flood artifificially created by the poor management of dams. This year also the possibility of another dam disaster cannot be ruled out.

The nearing monsoon and intensifying summer rains have increased concerns regarding the water level in the dams. The Tamil Nadu Weatherman, the most reliable weather forcasting agency, has hinted about a possible occuring of heavy rain and related flood. Various other  environment experts have opined to reduce water level in dams including Idukki dam urgently. 

So, it is high time to start the activities in view of a flood havoc and for a government-level intervention to reduce water level in Tamil Nadu dams to which Kerala dams are opened.

Terrible time for poor workers

It is most heart breaking to know seventeen migrant workers were crushed to death by a train in Aurangabad and that is just one day after the Visakapatanam Gas leak tragedy. My heartfelt condolence to the bereaved families. 

The workers, who were walking to Bhusawal from Jalna, were returning to Madhya Pradesh.This incident should not have occurred. It is due to sheer lack of planning from the authority. It is time to open our eyes at find ways not to replicate such tragedies. Due to Covid job loss thousands of labourers are on the streets and government should arrange safe transit for them

May these people find strength in this difficult time.

Develop better program

Lockdown norms violation is high among politicians in Kerala. This is evident in the cases of Dean Kuriakose, Adoor Prakash, Kadakampally Surendron and others. But when police takes action it is often appears one sided. If Dean's is a sufficient case for a police case, then that of Kadakampally is not a lesser one.

Another draconian way of penalising common man is the fine for not using face mask. It is Rs 200 for first time offence and Rs 5000 for second time offence, which means a scale factor of 25, quite unheard in any petty case. Of late, Govt hospitals have become a place for rescue people while public places are one for punish people. It is high time to develop a better programme to create awareness among people instead of imposing hefty fine in this lockdown period .

Amazon cloud leaked?

Sprinklr data is intact in Amazon Cloud and it would never leak. This was the argument of some channel woodheads in public domain. But it went wrong. The leakage of data has happened. It shows smugness and indifference of the Government of Kerala.

The details of COVID-19 patients including their phone numbers were leaked in both Kannur and Kasaragod. The patients were contacted by Bangalore based hospitals regarding the follow up treatment.  Sprinklr is collecting the data of the patients and those under observation. No compromise on disciplinary action.

The significant way to prevent the spread of coronavirus is to maintain social distance. This requires the closure of institutions. In this scenario, the closure of beverage shops in Kerala is exemplary. The social impact of such a shutdown may also be direct.

If people violate the closure proposal and the travel ban, the police should act strictly. Grab the vehicle and revoke the license.

In some countries, including the US, the military has been deployed to enforce the shutdown. India has not reached such a stage. To avoid a situation like calling the military people must comply with the government directives.

New Covid cases are reported daily in Kerala. Many are under surveillance. The government should ensure the availability of essential commodities and take stringent action against those who sell at higher prices. Ward level committees should be set up to provide government assistance as the daily wage workers are deprived of income.

Social kitchens that serve free meals are good. But more than that, every home needs to be built up.

Uninfomed people bring suffering.

It is the habit of some people to remain uninformed despite the measures taken by Centre-State governments and health agencies. The enforcing of prohibitory order in  Kodungallur taluk in Kerala is an indication. Over 1,500 people had attended the Bharani festival in the last few days in Kodungallor, defying government directions.

This is not an isolated case. The churches, mosques and Beverages Corporation outlets have shown scant  regard to directives of Health authorities. Those who disobey government restrictions should be brought to book. No law permits individuals to expose themselves to virus infections or to become  carriers of virus to transmit disease to others. Too much self-centered attitude brings isolation and extreme self-centered attitude is the source of suffering.

Corona joke

Kerala government has announced a revival package of Rs 20,000 crore to tide over the coronavirus financial crisis. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the state will offer Rs 20,000 crore package to overcome the economic meltdown.

Interestingly, this announcement has become a Corona joke because where from this  money would come, is unknown to the public. Of late, the government faces much criticism for not closing down Beverages outlets and bars to combat virus spread. The sole reason is; block of money due to the stoppage of liquor sales. If no liquor sales, no salary to employees,  is the deplorable financial condition of the state.

The corona scare has put the life to misery and state government tries to lessen if by jokes!

Welcome move

It is a welcome move by BJP to appoint K Surendran as state president in Kerala. With K Surendran as BJP president and Sandeep G Varier as Yuva Morcha chief the party would get added vigour in state politics when the state is set to go for the LSG polls.

Of late in Kerala, there is no opposition against ruling front. The present opposition led by Chennittala often plays hide and seek and act as B-team of Pinarayi Government. BJP  could do something against the corruption of the government.

There are several  police cases registered against Surendran,  all of which are related to violence in Sabarimala. This gives an added advantage to him beause believers of Lord Ayyappa think Surendran is with them. The infght, if any, in Kerala BJP unit will subside because detractors have no choice other than to stand with the decision of national higher-ups of BJP.
In every sense BJP will have better prospects in Kerala under Surendran's leadership .With K Surendran as chiet, BJP Kerala unit could perform better on days to come.

Membership claim, a farce

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) should be congratulated at least in two matters. The trumping third time victory  in the state of Delhi is the first one. The other is,  the media, once boycotted AAP leaders for their reluctance to appease reporters, now running behind AAP leaders for interviews. The AAP Supremo Arvind Kejriwal is now a hero to all channels.

However, Kejriwal's claim that more than one million people have joined AAP within 24 hours of their victory, is a farce. These missed call members may be from other parties. Does it  mean when a person joins AAP party, his membership in other party, stands cancelled. The AAP leader should have shown sense while declaring such meaningless missed-called memberships. That is, in membership claims the AAP and others make no difference.

Hotel food will cost more.

The Kerala state annual budget has allocated Rs 250 crore for Kudumbashree noting great contributions of it in empowering women. The Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac pointed out that projects for women are the major highlight of the budget.

It sounds all of his budgets are woman centred; last year it was 'she budget' and this year it may be called as 'mother-in-law' budget. It is  mother-in-law, who cares more the food habit of son-in-laws. This I say because government's ambitious project is 'Hunger free Kerala'. It will be undertaken by Kudumbashree and 1000 hotels will be opened to provide meals at Rs 25.

The implication is: people have to spend more to get quality food from hotels hereafter. The hotliers never consider such gimmicks as a harm to their business.
