Additional Chief Secretary K M Abraham's action to put an end to the unsolicited appointment by certain ministers at the fag end of their tenure is a welcome  move. By doing so he has proved that the Government of Kerala is not a Kangaroo court.
The out of way appointment is not a new thing. There was the story of  minister P K Shreemathi appointing her kin to gazetted post after taking her as cook in her personal staff. 
The off door appointment is undoubtedly an action against constitution. And it is a calculated way of snatching the rights of eligible applicants by the influential ones. And in any case the temporary staff  should not  be put in permanent posts. Show them  the way out and ask  to get appointed through Kerala Public Service Commission.

Advantage Congress

The Congress High Command has visibly admitted that the Kerala Chief Minister Ommen Chandy is corrupt. That is why they ask the trio namely Chandy, Sudheeran and Chennithala together to lead the Congress in the election. And Chennithala saying that the Congress never project a CM candidate before election is aimed at becoming the next CM. However his detractors say that Chennithala is not able to sail over smoothly from Harippad.

What is more interesting in the UDF is the mutual infight among its leaders. Each leader has announced their constituency without consulting with UDF leaders. And the only hope among Congress leaders is the ugly gestures of some Marxist leaders. For instance, the Marxist leader MM Mani hurling all the abuses on a hapless woman principal of Cheruthony Polytechnic is an added advantage for UDF.

Recovery of bad loans

Accumulating  bad loans in commercial banks in India cannot be considered as an eventual process. It is the result of willful attempt by  bank higher ups and politicians. How could liquor baron Vijay Mallya lead a lavish life when he remains as a defaulter of several crores to many banks? Why is he not arrested and put in jail after confiscating his  assets?

So, in this regard the Supreme Court directive to the Reserve Bank of India to provide the list of companies that are defaulters of bank loans, is in the right direction. The banks, for instance, the SBI or PNB are not taking any stringent action to recover the loan amount from defaulters. Their strongest action is seemingly, declare a defaulter as a ' willful defaulter'. This is some thing akin to ' growth of banyan tree in the back of shameless defaulter'.

Average investors and retirees who put their money in bank stocks are now sitting their fingers crossed. Are these banks going to melt in thin air?

If anyone says recovery of bad loans is not visible in near future then it is certain that he is also involved in the robbery. Recovery from the private assets of bank officials who issued loans and of defaulters should soon be done to save banks. The SC directive will also restrict future looting by banks by way of advancing large- scale loans to unscrupulous promoters.

My laboratory days with Ravi Sir

I studied my B Sc  degree in Physics at NSS college, Cherthala during 1970-73 after completing my pre-degree course from St.Michael's college, Cherthala. In St.Michael's Cherthala, every thing was fine at that time. The class rooms were well furnished and spacious, the laboratories were well equipped. The Physics practical lab was well furnished with large white painted tables and even a ball pin fallen anywhere could be easily visible. The windows of the lab were fitted with two shutters, one of glass and other of wood. The closing and opening the labs were a tedious job for laboratory attenders but they did the job meticulously. And that was according to the strict instruction given by the management. 

When comes to chemistry lab, the things were more sophisticated. Each table was furnished with bottles containing  all sorts of colourful chemicals. There were more than sufficient number of burettes and pipettes. All chemical tests to identify acid and basic radicals were done by we students and there was no restriction to the use of chemicals. We had done number of  experiments , a few of them were not even needed for pre-degree level. The teachers asked us to perform more experiments under the assumption we would once become good achievers. The management showed no laxity in procuring equipment and chemicals.

All these things had  totally changed when I joined NSS college, Cherthala for my degree course. The college is situated in a barren area 8 km north of Cherthala town. The surroundings of the college was full of    cashew trees grown on white sugar like sand.  At that time this white sand was kept uncared but now it is a costly commodity.

The NSS college was managed by Nair Service Society. As the management had many colleges in Kerala, this college received no special attention. The walls of the college remained with no white wash, windows kept opened and benches and desks full of pigeon filth. It was routine job for we students to remove pigeon filth from benches before the start of class.

Professor Ravi, Kannezhathu was our Chemistry teacher for subsidiary for two years. Though I was Physics main student I had to study Chemistry and Maths as subsidiary subjects. Now these subjects are renamed as complementary subjects but I never understood the advantage of such a name change. Mathematics is purely theoretical and hence no laboratory work is assigned to it. On the other hand laboratory experiments are compulsory for Chemistry.

As I mentioned earlier the chemistry lab was poorly maintained. Colourful reagent bottles were rare unlike what was seen n St Michael' s college. Many reagent bottles were seen empty but a few others were filled with colourless solutions.

I do still clearly remember a reaction performed in the lab under the supervision of Ravi sir. He asked me to perform the experiment. It was done by adding sodium bitartrate along with soda lime in a test tube and with continuous scratching. Scratching is a technique done by grinding a glass rod against the walls of the test tube containing chemicals. I was well versed in this experiment as I had performed it in the pre-degree class. There I was successful in the first trial itself but in NSS college lab, even though I scratched several minutes no white precipitate was obtained. I reported the matter to Ravi sir. And with all seriousness he asked me to repeat the experiment but I never succeeded.

After one year, I passed my BSc  degree meritoriously. I went to meet Ravi sir  in his department.  He was seen very happy and congratulated me for I was the topper in subsidiary chemistry too. I cherished my experience of scratching experiment in the chemistry lab. He laughed and said:

" There were no chemical by name sodium bitartarate in our lab. What you used was tap water collected and kept in the bottle. Students will scratch several times and finally they stop when their hands ache. You said truth of the negative result but many claimed they had received white precipitate with water treatment!. All right. Wish you the best".

Ravi Sir is no more.  He died a few days back because of heart failure.

Teachers under scanner

The government coming with teacher scanner to ensure the safety of children in school  campuses is a good gesture, however to what extent the corrupt police of the country could do this job genuinely, is doubtful.The separate manual on transportation which will make it mandatory for state governments to ensure that all schools provide transportation facilities to students, is also doubtful. And the act of not allowing private mode of transport like rickshaws and autos is objectionable. Many rickshawvalas meet their both ends by transporting children to schools. And if this permanent source of income is denied there is no other way for these poor people to live. Implementation of any rule under RTE act should be favorable to students and vast sections of the society

Unwise idea

A girl child is often a lantern of a home and any attempt to avoid girl child birth is detrimental. In that sense pre-natal sex determination to avoid a girl child is a crime. However Union Minister Maneka Gandhi stresses the need for pre- natal test to ensure birth of girl child. This sort of advice is dangerous to both mother and the child and it is a calculated attempt to help scanning centres.

It is true that in India among a few communities the birth of girl child is thought as bad incident because of dowry and other expenses in future. Even the mother of a girl child is unable to take a decision in her favour in such communities. Awareness campaigns can do a lot in such societies.
The Minister who takes bizarre decisions in issues like stray dog menace and pre-natal test needs good advisers in her office to take practical decisions.

Kerala proud

The State of Kerala can be proud of emerging as winners in the 61st National Schools Athletics Championship. Kerala amassed 39 gold medals along 29 silver and 17 bronze. Credit goes to parents and teachers of these children who worked hard to bring glory to the State in the national level.

The present victory should be appreciated by all of us. And more efforts must be taken to maintain this glory in future also

Shocking incident

The report of a boy beaten to death at Vakkom is shocking indeed. This incident not only ended the life of a boy aged 23 but spoiled the lives of four others. The sad incident is not based on any parental fault but partly on the impact of modern Malayalam cinema where violence is the prime topic of discussion. Lack of proper moral awareness and societal negligence are also responsible for similar incidents. Youngsters have no outlet for shedding out their extra energy as play grounds have disappeared and libraries are dysfunctional. What are accessible too them are liquor shops and drug peddlers. The net result is total ruin.

No permanent rivalry in politics

There is no permanent rivalry in politics. The opposition is based only on issues and that would change in course of time. If anyone has doubt see the TV footage of Shanimol Usman sitting adjacent to KPCC President V M Sudheeran in a public meeting at Alappuzha held in connection with his jana raksha yathra. The organisers of the yathra are seemingly deliberate in keeping Usman in the strong fold of the President.

Those with poor memories are invited to V.M Sudheeran’s statement on May 4, 2014 about Shanimol Usman’s strong reaction through a letter to him. According to Sudheeran its timing was part of a conspiracy to divert public attention, authored by certain sections in the party opposed to his strong stand on the liquor policy. Rubbishing the contents of the letter as "baseless and exaggerated", Sudheeran said Shanimol appeared to be acting as a "pawn" in the hands of those annoyed by his firm position on the issue of renewal of licences to over 400 liquor bars in the state. He said the whole thing smacked of a conspiracy against him and announced a three-member party committee to probe the entire aspects of the development.

The three-member panel, with KPCC vice-president M.M. Hassan as convener consisted of Lally Vincent, KPCC vice-president, and P.M. Suresh Babu, KPCC general secretary, as members. It is unknown to the public that whether the panel enquired the matter or not and what action had been taken against Usman.
Usman’s demand of an inquiry by a party commission into the alleged nexus between K C Venugopal and solar case accused Saritha Nair also not met. Any way everything is now in order and both Usman and the President are seen happy in the meeting.

CM need not step down

The United Democratic  Front (UDF) government in Kerala plunging  into a serious crisis following the statements made by con woman Saritha Nair in the solar scam is not a new issue as it was heard since 2013.  As long as  UDF leaders keep  a decisive stand to extend unconditional support to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and confront the Left Democratic Front (LDF) campaign for his resignation inside and outside the Assembly, there is no harm for the ministry. And in the immediate level there is no ground for the Chief Minister to step down. Nevertheless, in the next election the UDF is unlikely to win the election as people of Kerala always needed a change.

Moreover,  the conspiracy hatched by the LDF and the bar owners along with solar scam accused Saritha Nair cannot be ruled out. The allegation now raised by Saritha Nair was originally aired by Malayil Sreedharan Nair, a quarry owner three years back. He then made a statement before the magistrate under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code that he had met the Chief Minister along with the solar-scam accused Saritha S. Nair. On credibility aspect Sreedharan Nair is more acceptable than Saitha Nair but it has made no impact till this date. 

And what is more doubtful is the foul play of LDF making conspiracy with criminals and welcoming betrayers like Kovoor Kunjumon to their fold. More over the judicial activism on the part of Vigilance court, Thrissur cannot be ignored. The way selected  by Opposition by joining hands with con woman Saritha,  fortune seeker Kovoor Kunjumon MLA and the bar owners  to  shatter the credibility of the Chief Minister and the government he leads is, in fact, brings shame on LDF.

Big relief

,

It is a big relief for Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, the Kerala High Court putting a stay on a vigilance court's directive that a FIR be lodged against him in the Solar Scam case. The High Court also stayed a similar directive by the vigilance court against Power Minister Aryadan Muhammed. The HC  Justice came down heavily on vigilance court judge and opined that the vigilance court acted irresponsibly. And in that case the Opposition parties owe an apology to Kerala civic for their massive protest against Oommen Chandy.

The Opposition making heavy protests based on the words of a criminal woman and a thoughtless vigilance judge is deplorable. The role of visual media in igniting the whole incident is also intolerable.

Et tu Kunjumon!

 

In another blow to the UDF government that is already facing the heat over bribery allegations related to the solar scam, RSP leader Kovoor Kunjumon  resigned his membership of the state Assembly. The story of back stab never ends. The self-pride of Kunjumon has culminated at its maximum at the fag-end of the UDF rule and that prevented him not to remain with that Front..

It is now only Kunjumon recognised UDF as a corruption front. His resignation is after realizing that the way the UDF is going ahead now is not the right way. Possibly his tirade will continue with Left front which is now becoming the haven of betrayers  and fortune seekers.

Judicial activism

The Vigilance Court of Thrissur had clean bowled the Kerala Excise Minister K Babu days back by ordering registration of FIR against him. The same has been again applied by the same court against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Power Minister Aryadan Mohammed in the view of the bribery allegations levelled against them by solar scam accused Saritha Nair. Hence there is ample reason for Oommen Chandy and Aryadan to resign. Nevertheless, court believing the public statement of a criminal woman is out of the ordinary. The court order is on a plea filed by an activist on solar scam.

There in our midst are innumerable activists and criminals. Any one could file a petition based on contradictory statements,which are available in plenty in channel discussions,and if a court is to allow such petition no one could rule the state in the future. Presumably the act of Thrissur vigilance court can be put in the category of cases related to judicial activism.

State Excise Minister K Babu is seen very happy after his relinquishment from ministerial ship.  On resignation  he along with his family has gone for the film ' Two countries' a film suited for viewing by post vacated ministers  and all the country fellows. Interestingly this film like the recently released one 'Pavaada' glorifies drunkards and hence bar owners

Minister K Babu is known for his appeasement of bar owners, but unfortunately he was thrown out of the post by the disclosure of the same people.  Babu may be congratulated for one thing that he has not arranged any rally with reception from Thiruvananthapuram to Kochi  unlike the one arranged by ex-bar bribe minister  K M Mani to Pala. It is ironical see that the fate of Kerala UDF Ministry is decided by the unscrupulous bar owners.

Mani gimmicks

Rubber party of eastern Kerala can do only the sort of agitation known as slimming exercise. The body condition of all leaders of Kerala Congress need occasional overhauling by way of fasting and meditation. Otherwise they would run out of excessive cholesterol and sugar. The Thirunakkara ground booked for three days for an 'indefinite' fasting drill by KC(M) MP Jose K Mani is indented for his body rejuvenation and not for any rubber farmer.

The Kerala Assembly election is in the offing and hence some leaders organise rallies and some others perform hunger strikes. People from various walks life visited Jose K Mani, nevertheless the absence of BJP leaders remains conspicuous.

Illogical and undemocratic

The decision of the Delhi Government to permit odd and even number cars on alternate days is illogical. This will encourage car swap system among people. The government needs to provide the hassle-free public transport system and persuade people to use it.  Banning cars more than 15-year-old is not people-friendly, instead strict pollution norms should be implemented.

Rally Time

Assembly Election is ahead, so it is rally time in Kerala. Out of the innumerable rallies by various political parties the name of one by NCP seems curious. Since voters are fed up with the corrupt practices of political leaders they are least interested to vote in the election and are supposedly in a sleepy mood. Knowing this NCP leaders have named their rally as 'Wake up , Kerala ' rally.

Interestingly the party has only an imported leader from Lakdhwadeep to inaugurate the rally. It is doubtful that NCP president Uzhavoor Vijayan's buffoonery would wake up any sensible citizen of Kerala.

Pollution-free India

When Union Road Transport. and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari says 'clean, pollution- free India be a priority now' he intends only automobile pollution. Other sources of pollution are immaterial to any minister.

In Kerala in the months of November and December, all temples and other worship places produce high sound pollution but none is bothered to check despite a number of court orders. The entire National Highway sides are occupied by fish and meat vendors polluting the entire street and they posing traffic threat, is not at all a problem for authorities. Latrine wastes are dumped on road sides violating all the rules relating pollution control. House boat wastes along with waste oil thrown into back waters make it difficult for water organisms to survive. The local self government bodies that are bound to keep the environment clean do nothing to control pollution.

So it is high time to act judiciously on checking all sorts of pollution

No doubt, the equity growth in the country is abysmally low. The reason is not alone the lack of interest among investors but the sheer uncertainty prevailing in the market. Out of the 60000 plus company shares only 100 to 200 shares are traded in stock markets. Majority of the shares are in dormant state and some companies even  do not exist. There is no check to control the fraudulent   promoters of certain non-existing companies.

Unless and until some thing is done by the government to check investors' loss the stock market would continue as the foul play turf of  foreign market players where the net losers are average Indian investors. It is time to make equity investment trustworthy.

Naidu is wrong

Parliamentary affairs minister Venkaiah Naidu saying that "all country men want  a Ram Mandir in Ayodhya" is wrong . It is only  VHP members and a few hard core Hindus wish in this direction. Ram Temple is a bone of contention in the country and any thoughtless act to construct the temple  would make BJP rule murckiyar. The VHP plan of gathering stones for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya is likely to turn out as a threat to the communal fabric of the country.

Any action to support the act of VHP would become detrimental to the  the nation.

Cherian Philip’s betrayal

Marxist sympathiser and former Congress leader Cherian Philip seeking pardon for his involvement in the  bringing down of  veteran Congress leader K Karunakaran as the Chief Minister of Kerala in 1994,  is only an attempt to get media attention. Cherian, of late, with his Face Book posts target many leaders of the Congress party but none are bothered to attend him. For Congress party  Cherian is a wayward boy now doing kitchen work in certain strong  Left households to get a berth in the next Assembly election. In the last election his somersault to get a berth in Assembly with the assistance of LDF misfired.

If Cherian is to continue his betrayal stories he has to tell more and the most significant is his betrayal of  A K Antntony, his mentor. In each back stab of Cherian, Antony might have remembered the innumerable black teas and cinema tickets he brought for when Cherian was the orderly of him..Of course for Antony, Cherian is an epitome of betrayal and sheer discontentment.

New Formula

 Pollution in and around Delhi is a serious problem. But the state government's decision to permit only even and odd numbered cars to ply on alternate days is illogical. This would persuade people to buy another car, resulting in a minimum of two cars in every household. What the government needs to do is to build a robust public transport system. Banning cars that are more than 15 years old is not enough. Instead, strict pollution checks should be instituted. The NGT's decision of banning the registration of new and 10-year-old diesel vehicles is a step in the right direction. School and college students should be asked to use bicycles instead of motor vehicles. In certain Indian Institute of Technology campuses, even professors are known to use bicycles, which is praiseworthy.

The otherwise happy first time visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Kerala has been made cheerless by SNDP Yogom Secretary Vellappally Natesan. He flouted the protocol by withdrawing invitation to the Chief Minister of Kerala for the function Modi to inaugurate. The whole episode may not be with the knowledge of the PM for he may have no displeasure to share the dias with the CM.

The whole controversy created by Vellappally has become a topic of discussion about the prospects of BJP in Kerala but seemingly Vellappally would become a thorn in the flesh for BJP in the immediate future.

Needs good advisers

SNDP Yogom secretary Vellappally Natesan needs good advisers as his present outbursts are unbecoming of a person who leads an organisation that preaches "One caste, One religion and One God" for all world generations. His latest adventure to ridicule Kerala CM Oommen Chandy has boomeranged. It is unwise in a State to organise a function for PM of India , private or public, with out the presence of it's Chief Minister. This sort of thoughtless act will not be permitted in states like TN, Bengal, UP or Odisha. It is also the responsibility of PM to avoid such functions which augment communal hatred.

The creative action against "intolerance" can be performed not only through discussion but also through action.

Lost glitter

Man's craze for yellow metal is well known. Women folks of Kerala and elsewhere are addicted to gold. They often think that the secret of their beauty is gold ornaments. Since then gold has become the criterion to show one's wealth women with huge possession of gold ornaments are centres of attraction for many in wedding like functions. Exploiting the addiction of women, the merchants in Kerala, Dubai etc had made a huge profit by way selling gold. Mushroomed gold showrooms in and around the country indicate huge profit earned by merchants of gold business.

In this back drop the bullion prices falling sharply in the domestic markets is a welcome gesture. If gold is available at a throwaway prize none would pay heavily in gold market and no woman dare to wear gold ornament. They will shift to diamond and platinum and that too will end up in later misery.

Gold merchants making huge profit by selling and buying gold have to sort out some other means to maintain their profit. World countries investing in gold would search for other options to maintain their financial stability.

Possible disaster

It is interesting to see that RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan and his company are going to change the governance process of the banks. As the bank stocks have plummeted to their bottom some sort of action is highly necessary. Nevertheless, if the past work of Rajan is taken into account it is unlikely for the banks to gain any thing substantially in the immediate future.

Presently NPA resulted from bad loans took the banks to such a deplorable bottom. Unless action is taken against those officials who are responsible, issue of bad loans would continue and the banks would nosedive to imminent disaster.

Communal malvirus

The attack of communal malvirus is in its culmination in the state as the SNDP Yogam secretary started spitting venom with his 'Munnetta yathra'. I wonder why the people of Kerala have not yet entered into a communal revolt by this time.

It is the left and right political parties of Kerala that had given such a huge dimension to Vellappally. All political leaders who queued before Vellapally's house for his ' karimeen fry' hospitality are responsible for this present imbroglio. The police case registered against Vellappally would give him more exposure and the case would end up now where. All paid TV Channels will give necessary boost to Vellappally.

In fact, a never mind attitude would have resulted Vellappally to nothing , nevertheless the politicians and channels are determined to make him a great crusader.

Karunya robbery

Though temple worshippers hereinafter will not have any contribution to Karunya benevolence fund as the court has banned selling lottery tickets within the walls of the temples, the fund was of great help to the poor patients admitted in several hospitals across the State. Nevertheless, this much appraised  health scheme has now became more like a drop out, hospitals which came under the scheme are now facing a large financial crisis. The Government failed to give the amount to hospitals and the due money range from Rs10 Lakhs to two Crores.The scheme is now temporarily stopped.

As an alternative it is learnt that the  management of this fund has been transferred to Tata Consultancy Service by the government. Though there is no doubt about the efficacy of TCS it is highly objectionable to transfer a huge chunk of public begged money as the service charge of Tata company. The need of too many staff under lottery department also comes index question then.

Growing intolerance

PM Narendra Modi  opening doors to Opposition Congress  for a talk on growing intolerance in the country is a welcome gesture. What is to be checked first is the stopping of unwarranted outbursts  by low profile leaders of BJP like Niranjan Joshi and others. A timely intervention by the PM might have lessened the tension but  with his busy schedule abroad he finds little time for it.

Film actors Sharukh Khan or Amir Khan had not experienced any sort of intolerance in the country as their  cinemas are well accepted by people of all religions. Every Indian citizen have the right to live in India peacefully and any  VHP/BJP leader asking someone to go to Pakistan is an act of intolerance. This must be checked immediately.

Hate practice by saffron Sadhvi

Cow mad leaders of BJP have not stopped spitting venom. “There are a lot of things to eat in this country apart from cow and it is the duty of the state governments to ban cow slaughter" said Union minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti. Undoubtedly the saffron cladded ministers have become a big liability to the Modi government and unless their words are not checked by the Prime Minister, intolerance in the country would grow beyond any proportion.  There is no country other than India in the world where cow stands higher than man and this perversion augmented since the inception of Modi government.

It is good if we all stand for the fair treatment of animals but this is something that relates to religion. Or they would have banned meat products other than beef too. Hindus of some parts of country worship cow and hence oppose cow slaughter. And if this logic is applied to rat they should ban rat poison also. There are many who worship rat, the vehicle of Lord Ganesh and hence anyone in possession of rat poison should be jailed.

It is to be remembered India is a multiracial country and its people have different needs. Hence it is imprudent to follow the orders so called go-matha worshipers. By banning beef and beef products, those poor millions suffering from malnutrition are denied inexpensive food supplements. Worship of cow is in fact a hate practice towards beef-eaters.

Artistic freedom for government staff and aided school teachers is unwarranted. They being the part of the government often coming against it with their artistic creation such as book, painting or Face book posting is quite obnoxious and should be curtailed. 

It is often seen that even police officers who are supposed to be more disciplined among government staff appear in Facebook criticising the ministers and their superior officers. This is ridiculous as it marks grave indiscipline with in the police force.

Any action by government to check what is called artistic freedom of government staff is not an infringement on the right of the citizen but an action to protect the necessary discipline among such staff.

Delayed justice

Justice delayed is justice denied. The slow pace of Indian courts has augmented delayed justice. Ordinary people are fed with courts as it takes a dozen or more years to settle a case. This is not because the dearth of judges alone but due to plethora of cases related to political bribery. When political cases are given importance it would naturally take many years for settling ordinary cases. So, what is needed is: resolve. cases based date of admission and not based on what is called 'importance'

Interestingly K M Mani, who was resigned recently as Kerala Finance and Law minister said that he didn't get the deserved justice. If this is the plight of a State Law minister, imagine the state of ordinary people running pillar to post to get resolved their grievance.

Paris terror attack

Heinous terror attack in the Paris concert hall killing over 128 people and injuring more than 180 is highly condemnable. As the Pontiff said it is an attack on humanity and a peace meal of World War III.
Paris tragedy requires world powers to join hand immediately to wipe out terrorism of IS. It is the prime responsibility of all rulers to avert further blood baths of terrorism in future.

Punish the trouble makers

Celebrations over election victory cross all limits. Death of a boy in Malappuram is a pointer in this regard. Exploding high decibel dynamite and thereby damaging the hearing ability of little ones, disturbing the tranquil mindset of elders damaging buildings etc, are crimes to be punished. And for this no specific complaint is needed. The police and other authorities could take suo motto case against these criminals for making nuisance in the thoroughfare.

The Twenty 20 victory

The Twenty 20 victory at Kizhakkambalam Panchayat in Kerala is a historic one. Though it may be described as a rare phenomenon it is an eye-opener to the three fronts in Kerala. The Twenty 20 self help group has secured a thumbing margin of 17 seats out of19.

A monthly payment to the elected members and the right to call them back if found useless, are good gestures to be followed by various political parties in Kerala. Let Twenty 20 to work as a leading light to correct all corrupt members of various political parties

Truth remains

It is very interesting to know how voters of Kerala think. For instance look at the failure of the daughter of Kerala's most popular Chief Minister E K  Nayanar and the victory of Karayi duo. Nayanar's daughter Usha lost to her rival in Ravipuram ward of Kochi Corporation while Karayi Rajan and Karayi Chandrasekharan who are accused in the Fasal murder case, came successful in their respective constituencies in Kannur. Karayis are acquitted by the peoples' court and  now it is the turn  of judicial court to to confirm it. However , the brutal killing of Fasal remains as a sad truth.

Poll debacle

Bar bribery case, communal polarisation, price rise, corruption etc are not  necessarily the  reasons for the debacle of the UDF in the LSG poll in Kerala. It is mainly due to the highway robbery of vehicle owners by the police and the transport authorities.
For quite long imposing high penalty on vehicle owners to cater the need of money was the habit of state government. For this they deployed police force , mobile courts ,  vehicle inspectors and who else for extracting money from ordinary public. Helmet hunt has become notorious and for this several police squads were in action as if there were no other duty for the police.

Of late, every house hold in Kerala owns a two wheeler and every two wheeler owner once or many times has undergone police high handedness. The feedback from  these people might have resulted in the  debacle of UDF.  If the government is again to continue this loot their failure in the coming Assembly poll is not unlikely 

Fair sex, less corruption

Women get less representation in Kerala Assembly and in Parliament. The state of Kerala where 1000 men have 1085 women has shown scant regard to women regarding representation to state assembly. It is unfortunate to see that women have only a small representation in Kerala Assembly. Gender equality is only a slogan suited for non- implementation. Women organizations in the state are also responsible for this pitiable situation. However, this is compensated in Local Self Government bodies.

Unlike men, women representatives would work more for villagers for the well-being of all and not for a particular group of people in the village. They would work honestly and be able to devote time to thework. The sense of responsibility is more in women A woman head in a Panchayat would ensure fair andtimely distribution of pension for widows and old people, and scholarships for students belonging to scheduled castes. In certain cases the work a woman can accomplish, men cannot.

Moreover, female politicians are less likely than their male counterparts to engage in corruption, and more likely to disapprove of it when they see it. A study says that In democratic countries with generally low levels of corruption, women are less likely to be corrupt and less likely to tolerate corruption than male politicos. The effect, however, does not hold up in countries where corruption is endemic and of course in India corruption is not endemic. In less corrupt countries, recruiting more women into public service may indeed decrease overall corruption
