Wayanad Landslide

#Wayanad Landslide
The recent landslides in Wayanad, Kerala, which claimed over 70 lives, have devastated the region both in terms of loss and displacement. The primary culprits behind this tragedy appear to be deforestation and land mining, which have destabilized the soil and made it more susceptible to such catastrophic events.

As the community grapples with this immense loss, there is an urgent call for a thorough investigation into these environmental practices to prevent future disasters.

Beyond the immediate devastation, the plight of those who are now homeless adds a critical layer of concern. The displaced individuals face significant health risks, particularly from the potential spread of viral and contagious diseases. With temporary shelters and inadequate sanitation facilities, these individuals are highly vulnerable to outbreaks of diseases.

Comprehensive measures are required to address these health risks, including the provision of medical care, clean water, and effective sanitation to safeguard the well-being of the affected population.

Nirmala college episode

#Nirmala College episode
The recent detention of Muvattupuzha Nirmala College's Principal by members of the Muslim Students Federation (MSF) and SFI over allegations related to prayer allowances is deeply troubling. Such actions undermine the principles of academic freedom and respect for institutional authority.

The act of forcibly detaining an individual for hours not only disrupts the educational environment but also reflects an alarming disregard for due process and dialogue. While it is crucial to address grievances through appropriate channels, resorting to coercion and intimidation is unacceptable and counterproductive.

Moreover, the involvement of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) in this controversy raises concerns about their role and motivations. The presence of atheist communist groups in such conflicts, particularly when the core issue revolves around religious practices, adds complexity and requires careful scrutiny.

The commitment to maintaining peace, respect, and lawful conduct must remain paramount in addressing such disputes.

Systematic failure?

#Systematic #failure?
The recent reports about the woman staffer from Manappuram Finance Ltd allegedly embezzling Rs 19.94 crore in Kerala have understandably shocked her hometown of Kollam. It raises questions about the feasibility of such an act without the complicity of higher officials.

Given the company's stringent monitoring systems, where even minor transactions are closely tracked by the Managing Director, it's reasonable to consider that she may have been under immense pressure or coerced into committing these acts. It is crucial to approach this situation with empathy and avoid immediate judgment, as the complexity of financial crimes often involves layers of oversight. It can sometimes obscure the true nature of the events.

Her alleged actions, if proven true, may be the result of systemic failures or extreme personal circumstances, rather than a reflection of her character alone.

Blatant overreach

#Blatant #overreach
The Kerala Government's decision to appoint a bureaucrat as Secretary for External Cooperation is a flagrant overreach of constitutional boundaries, as highlighted by the Ministry of External Affairs. This move not only undermines the established framework of Indian federalism but also reflects a troubling disregard for constitutional expertise and norms.

The apparent lack of due diligence and consultation with legal experts on such a critical matter indicates a disturbing trend of bypassing established protocols for administrative convenience. This reckless disregard for constitutional propriety risks setting a dangerous precedent and undermining the integrity of both state and central governmental functions.

Reckless reporting

#Reckless reporting
The irresponsible behavior exhibited by certain Malayalam news channel reporters in their coverage of Arjun's disappearance due to a landslide in Shirur is reprehensible and unprofessional. Instead of prioritizing factual reporting and aiding in the search efforts, these reporters chose sensationalism, which not only undermines the gravity of the situation but also potentially hampers rescue operations.

Their focus on creating sensational headlines rather than delivering accurate information demonstrates a severe lack of journalistic integrity and ethics. By sensationalizing the tragedy, these reporters have disrespected the plight of Arjun and his family, turning a serious search and rescue mission into a spectacle for their own gain.

The actions of these reporters highlight a troubling trend in media where the pursuit of ratings and sensational stories overrides the duty to inform the public responsibly. Their reckless reporting not only spreads misinformation but also jeopardizes the efforts of the Indian Military, Navy, and other agencies involved in the rescue operation.

It is imperative that these reporters undergo immediate and comprehensive training in ethical journalism practices. They must understand the profound impact their reporting has on real-life events and the lives of those affected.

The media's role in times of crisis should be one of support, accuracy, and empathy, not exploitation and sensationalism. Any further misconduct from these reporters should be met with strict consequences to uphold the standards of truthful and compassionate journalism.

Funny communication

#Funny #communication
It's a common  that many Malayalis, despite Malayalam being their mother tongue, often resort to using poor English.. This tendency becomes particularly evident in settings like channel interviews where proficiency in English is perceived as crucial.

This preference often leads to chaotic communication and misunderstandings. Malayalis' reluctance to speak Malayalam in such situations highlights a larger societal trend where English is seen as a marker of prestige. This overshadows the importance of preserving and effectively using one's native language.

This habit not only undermines the richness of Malayalam but also reflects a misplaced prioritization of English. Of course there is a pressing need for a cultural shift that encourages Malayalis to confidently communicate in their mother tongue. This would foster stronger connections and clearer communication within their community and beyond.

Kanwar Yatra

#Practical measure for peace and harmony.
The initiative by Muzaffarnagar police to require shops and establishments to display their owners' names alongside their business names can be seen as a practical measure to ensure transparency and promote peaceful coexistence, particularly during events like the Kanwar Yatra.

By clearly identifying the ownership of establishments, this step aims to prevent misunderstandings and potential conflicts based on religious or communal grounds. In many instances, such transparency can foster a sense of accountability among business owners and promote a safer environment for all residents and visitors alike.

Moreover, aligning with the Shops and Establishment Act, which mandates the display of certain information, reinforces the legality and necessity of such a requirement. This measure not only aids in law enforcement efforts but also serves as a proactive approach to preemptively address any tensions that may arise during sensitive times.

By implementing this practice universally across the country, similar misunderstandings in other regions could potentially be mitigated, thereby contributing to overall societal harmony and peaceful coexistence among diverse communities.

While some may view this requirement with skepticism, understanding its intent to enhance public safety and communal harmony sheds light on its potential benefits. Clear identification of business ownership can indeed be a constructive step towards ensuring that events like the Kanwar Yatra proceed smoothly and without unnecessary conflict. It  sets a positive precedent for other regions to consider similar measures in the interest of public welfare.

Comedic issue

#Comedic issue
The incident involving Malayalam composer Ramesh Narayan and actor Asif Ali can be seen as a rather silly misunderstanding blown out of proportion.

It appears that what started as a routine award presentation ended up in controversy, with Narayan unintentionally causing offense to Asif Ali. Narayan clarified that his actions were not intended as a snub, highlighting the importance of clarity in such public events.

In reality, such misunderstandings often arise in the heat of the moment, and it's unfortunate that this incident overshadowed what should have been a celebratory occasion.

Moreover, the blame game involving the organizers further adds to the silliness of the situation. While it's true that organizers play a crucial role in managing such ceremonies, ultimately, the responsibility lies with all parties involved to maintain decorum and avoid unnecessary conflict.

Instances like these serve as reminders of the need for clear communication and mutual respect in public engagements, ensuring that incidents like this don't overshadow the achievements being celebrated.

In the grand scheme of things, this incident will likely be remembered more for its comedic value than for any lasting impact on the individuals involved or the industry as a whole.

Joint adventure again

#Joint adventure again
The recent joint effort by Parliamentarians from Kerala, spearheaded by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and supported by Congress MP KC Venugopal, underscores a troubling trend that could prove detrimental to the Congress party's prospects in Kerala.

By aligning closely with the ruling party on issues of financial assistance from the Centre, Congress risks diluting its distinct identity and diminishing its role as a robust opposition force. History has shown that such collaborations tend to blur political lines, eroding the electorate's confidence in a viable alternative to the ruling regime.

If this trend continues unchecked, Congress could find itself perpetually relegated to the opposition benches in Kerala, even under the future leadership of Pinarayi Vijayan. This strategic alignment, while potentially beneficial in the short term for state interests, threatens the very essence of democratic pluralism and effective opposition politics in Kerala.

Commendable move by HC

#Commendable move by HC
The High Court's decision to stay the government order permitting external professional groups, such as DJs, to perform art programs on college campuses is indeed a commendable move.

Allowing such activities without proper oversight can lead to significant disciplinary issues within educational institutions. The potential for students to be influenced or misguided by certain groups to collect large sums of money under the guise of cultural programs is a valid concern that needs careful consideration. By halting this directive, the court has demonstrated foresight in protecting the integrity and educational environment of colleges.

Furthermore, the court's intervention comes at a crucial time when teachers are facing increasing risks from political threats and intimidation. Protecting educators from such pressures is vital for maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment. The decision not only safeguards the educational institutions from potential disruptions but also underscores the importance of upholding discipline and academic values within college campuses.

It is now imperative for authorities to reassess and implement measures that ensure cultural activities on campuses are conducted responsibly and without compromising the educational mission.

Oommen Chandy's pivotal role

#Oommen Chandy's pivotal role.
It is indeed disappointing that Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan chose to omit any acknowledgment of former CM Oommen Chandy's pivotal role in the establishment of the Vizhinjam Port during the recent inaugural ceremony.

Oommen Chandy's foresight and leadership were instrumental as he laid the foundation stone for the port in December 2015, laying the groundwork for what has become a significant infrastructure project for Kerala. His dedication and vision in initiating this ambitious venture cannot be ignored.

On the other hand, Pinarayi Vijayan's remarks, focusing solely on allegations of financial irregularities, paint a narrow picture of the project's history and significance. While scrutiny of public projects is important, Vijayan's portrayal of the Vizhinjam Port as merely a 'sea robbery' undermines the years of effort and planning that went into its realization. Such rhetoric not only disregards Chandy's contributions but also fails to acknowledge the broader benefits the port brings to Kerala's economy and infrastructure development.

In essence, while criticizing alleged scams is part of accountability in governance, it should not overshadow or diminish the achievements and contributions of those who laid the groundwork for significant projects like the Vizhinjam Port. Oommen Chandy's role deserves recognition and respect for his vision and dedication to Kerala's progress.

Ambani son marriage

#Ambani Son Marriage
The extravagant spending associated with Anant Ambani's marriage certainly raises eyebrows, but it's essential to view it through the lens of broader economic impact and societal implications. For the Ambani family, such events serve as strategic investments in their brand and network.

Beyond personal celebration, these occasions are meticulously planned to enhance business relationships, consolidate influence, and project an image of affluence that befits their stature in the business world. This isn't mere extravagance but a calculated move to expand their empire and maintain their position at the summit of India's economic hierarchy.

Moreover, the financial ripple effects of such a lavish affair extend far beyond the Ambani family itself. From the local street flower vendor to internationally renowned chefs, countless individuals and businesses benefit economically.

The influx of spending creates opportunities for vendors, artisans, service providers, and hospitality establishments, thereby injecting a substantial sum into the local economy. For many in the vicinity of the festivities, it transforms into a festive atmosphere, fostering a sense of community and celebration that permeates through various strata of society.

In essence, while the scale of expenditure may appear extravagant, the broader economic benefits and social dividends cannot be discounted. The Ambani family's celebrations serve as catalysts for economic activity and communal joy, showcasing how private wealth can stimulate broader prosperity and create lasting positive impacts across society.

Dire picture of NEET & KEAM

#Dire picture of NEET & KEAM
The assertion that the NEET examination question paper has not leaked according to the National Testing Agency (NTA) is a crucial reassurance of the exam's integrity. However, the claim by a coaching centre in Pala that 7 out of 8 top ranks in KEAM.are from their students raises alarming concerns about the fairness and accessibility of such exams.

If true, it suggests a troubling disparity: those who can afford expensive coaching might gain an unfair advantage, potentially through leaked question papers, while economically disadvantaged students, who lack such resources, are left to face their fate. This situation not only undermines the meritocratic principle of competitive exams but also perpetuates socio-economic inequalities in access to education and opportunities.

The issue extends beyond NEET and affects exams like KEAM, crucial for millions of aspiring students across India. The implication that coaching centres may engage in illicit practices, including accessing leaked question keys through financial means, paints a dire picture of educational inequality. For millions of economically disadvantaged individuals, these exams are not merely academic challenges but gateways to higher education and better futures.

Therefore, allowing such practices to persist threatens to disenfranchise those who are already marginalized, reinforcing a cycle where economic privilege, rather than merit, determines success. Addressing this demands rigorous enforcement of exam integrity measures, equitable access to preparatory resources, and a commitment to leveling the playing field for all aspiring students in India.

Restore reputation of Education

#Restore reputation of Education
The issue of student outfits, particularly the SFI (Students' Federation of India), in Kerala has become a significant concern for the education system. The frequent instances of violence and threats directed towards educators have created a hostile environment that disrupts the academic process.

Class boycotts and forceful closures of educational institutions have become commonplace, resulting in substantial loss of instructional time. These disruptions not only hinder the progress of students but also undermine the reputation of Kerala's education system as a whole.

Addressing this issue requires a firm stance from authorities. Treating class strikes and boycotts as severe criminal offenses could be a necessary step towards restoring order and discipline within educational institutions. By implementing strict legal measures, such as stringent penalties and consequences for those involved in such activities, the authorities can deter future incidents and protect the rights of both students and educators.

A conducive learning environment is essential for fostering intellectual growth and academic excellence, and only through decisive action can Kerala ensure a future where education thrives without the shadow of violence and disruption.

Hema Commission report

#Hema Commission report.
The government's prolonged withholding of the Hema Commission report on sexual harassment and gender inequality in the Malayalam film industry raises serious concerns about transparency and accountability.

By keeping such a critical document under wraps for over four years since its submission in December 2019, the government appears to be neglecting its duty to address systemic issues within the industry promptly. The commission was specifically established to investigate and recommend measures to combat illegal and offensive acts against women, aiming to foster a safer and more equitable working environment. However, by delaying the release of its findings, the government is effectively delaying potential reforms and justice for victims of harassment and discrimination.

The substantial public expenditure of over one crore rupees on the commission's proceedings further underscores the gravity of this issue. Taxpayer money has been invested in uncovering and addressing issues that are evidently of significant public interest, yet the government's failure to disclose the report undermines the principles of democratic governance and transparency. The potential sensitivity of the report, often cited as a reason for its non-disclosure, cannot justify this prolonged secrecy, especially when transparency is crucial for accountability and remedial action.

The Human Rights Commission's directive to release the report rightly emphasizes the public's right to know and the imperative to hold accountable those responsible for any wrongdoing identified by the commission.

Making Saint

#Sharp disconnect
Thomas Isaac's tenure as a CPM leader in Kerala has been marred by controversies and missteps that have alienated the very people he claims to serve.

His outspoken criticism of party arrogance rings hollow considering his own actions have contributed significantly to the disconnect between the party and the public. From ill-conceived initiatives like the Salary challenge and Masala Bond to the mishandling of state finances, Thomas Isaac has led Kerala down a path of fiscal uncertainty. His alleged involvement in scandals, including Swapna Suresh's accusations and evading ED inquiries, only further tarnish his reputation and undermine the trust of the electorate.

Leadership failures of  Isaac have not only harmed his own electoral prospects but have also contributed to the broader decline of the CPM in Kerala, reflecting a stark disconnect between his rhetoric and his actions.  One cannot think many people would buy into Isaac's idea of blaming others and making himself a saint.

Dirty politics

#Dirty politics
The recent spate of violence involving SFI (Students' Federation of India) in Kerala has raised serious concerns about safety and governance within educational institutions.

The attack on the college principal in Koyilandy underscores the escalating threat faced by educators in  colleges. Reports of a clandestine "dark room" at the Kerala University campus allegedly used by SFI for assaulting opponents further highlight the deteriorating situation. These incidents suggest that even teachers are not immune to the violence, making college teaching a perilous endeavor in today's Kerala.

The perceived favoritism of the Chief Minister towards SFI adds to the apprehension, questioning the ability of authorities to effectively control and ensure the safety of educational environments in the state.

Decrying prayers

#Decrying prayers
In yet another bout of irony, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has once again stirred controversy by decrying initial prayers at public functions, much to the chagrin of organizers.

For the Marxists, prayer is dismissed as nonsensical unless it's packaged and sold, like the pilgrimage sites of Guruvayur and Sabarimala, which miraculously become lucrative.

In a tongue-in-cheek proposal to replace prayers, one might suggest a communal sip of liquor to kick off public events—a nod to the state government's revenue-generating liquor sales. Because why pray for blessings when you can toast to them with a government-endorsed beverage?

The irony flows as smoothly as the alcohol tax into state coffers, proving once again that in Kerala, even spiritual devotion can be distilled into economic pragmatism.

Condemnable remarks.

#Condemnable remarks.
Criticism of political leaders should be grounded in factual accuracy and respectful language.

If Rahul Gandhi indeed made derogatory remarks towards Hindus in the Lok Sabha with the alleged intention of appeasing Muslim voters in Wayanad, it demonstrates a blatant disregard for the sentiments of a vast majority of Indians who identify with Hinduism. Such actions not only risk alienating a significant portion of the electorate but also undermine the principles of secularism.

Politicians have a responsibility to foster harmony and understanding among different religious communities rather than resorting to divisive rhetoric for electoral gains. Rahul Gandhi's reported remarks are deeply concerning and deserve unequivocal condemnation.
