The introduction of the seaplane may be a big
boost to the tourism sector of the state but it is detrimental to fishermen
folk who earn their livelihood from Vembanadu and
other lakes.
The Vembanadu lake has been shrunk of late by
the encroachment of resorts and house boats. A recent fish survey by the
Fisheries University revealed that the species of fish have been dwindled in
the lake. The fishermen who depend on the lake find it difficult to get a catch.
The coming of sea plane should definitely make the life of fishermen more miserable.
The growth of tourism sector should not be
under the expense of the other sectors. So sea plane operation must be
restricted in sea only and not in lakes.
