#Should Vigilance be closed or should the High Court also be investigated!
Whether an FIR should be registered in a case is not a matter of political convenience; it is a matter that should be examined according to legal standards. There is strong criticism that the state government went ahead with its own vigilance investigation without registering an FIR despite the ED's findings and demands for further action in the allegations against Pinarayi Vijayan and his son-in-law Mohammed Riyaz.
Now that the High Court has intervened, the vigilance investigation announced by the government cannot be carried out without closing it. The government should clarify on what basis the FIR was not filed despite the ED's request. Since the High Court's new directive is against the government's political calculations, will a vigilance investigation be announced against the court as well?
The rule of law is not something that should be remembered only when the government is convenient. It is the constitutional responsibility of the government to follow the court's directives; it cannot turn its back on them in the name of political friendship. Just as no one can be declared guilty before the charges are proven, no one can be kept under suspicion indefinitely in the name of investigation.
In a democracy, the government can disagree with the court; but the due process of law should not be ignored in the name of political favoritism.
