The CPM is known for its novel protests like hartal,  human wall,  human chain, fire chain or what else. The latest fire chain protest is an original one and I appreciate it  not because of Achuthanandan’s wife prepared ‘payasam’, Pinaray’s wife cooked ‘kappa puzhukku, M A Baby’s wife ‘mathikkari’ or G Sudhakaran’s wife  boiled pipe water. It was a figurative remonstration against the hike in cooking gas price and the government move to curtail ration subsidy. Some sort of protest is absolutely necessary against the wrong policies of the UPA Government. The drastic cut in subsidised LPG cylinders to households and government move to cut ration subsidy is a blow to common man.

The protest participated by more than three  lakh people is an eye-opener to the Central Government who play hide and seek with oil refining companies.

Abandoned father, honoured son

Kerala Congress (B) Chairman, R Balakrishna Pillai and his B Ganesh Kumar have become role models for Keralites  as an abandoned father and an  accepted son.

Pillai was quite long ignored by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy as  MLA Ganesh Kumar is more precious than Pillai who is unable to present an MLA from his party. It is not leaders but MLAs run the UDF Ministry. The UDF feels a dearth for MLAs

Pillai could continue protest against the price hike of essential commodities and else what but none would hear him as he was abandoned by his son and the UDF. Pillai is no longer a head-ache for Oommen Chandy Government and the only option for Pillai is to support the Government and to forgive the faults of his son. A father can of course do it.

For quite long I was under the presumption that the SBI Life Insurance was an investment scheme to hoodwink the people as the return from this investment is little or negative. And that was confirmed with the series of advertisements now they air through channels. All participants in the ads ask non-sense questions suited to their investment with SBI life!

GKSF megamela

One of the man-made disasters of Kerala is the Grand Kerala Shopping Festival. Almost all merchant establishments across State are hell bound to squeeze the uninformed customers by selling various products they really never need. The only attraction of yester-year GKSF ads was cine actor Innocent with his rare histrionic talent, but this year he is absent owing to illness

What this GKSF owners show as advertisement in channel is an utter non-sense which provoke all sensible persons. The unscrupulous channel owners shattering all telecast norms air these advertisements throughout the prime show. The GKSF promoters should understand what is responsiveness and rubbish. For instance see the ad of ‘Asset Kasavu’- a more soothing one than the prime show itself.

Money can be spent for ads, but why GKSF is not spending it wisely? All their ads are disgusting.

It is time for all sensible customers to opt this GKSF festival time as occasion not to buy valuable commodities. The prize or gift given at sales is a ploy to hoodwink the customers. The merchants should sell the goods at the correct retail price. Selling a commodity with a gift is to demoralize fellow merchants and the customers.

Murali’s satyagraha

K Muraleedharan MLA, the son of late K Karunakaran has become more or less a clown in Kerala politics with his witty comments. His latest attempt to save his father’s lost face by defaming late PM  Narasimha Rao ended up in a joke as there were no takers for the same in his party and the UDF. His ‘kandakashani’ comment in the backdrop of A K Antony’s ‘Brahmos missile’ also landed in deep sea. Now he says he has pulled off from the satyagraha that he had planned following his talks with chief minister Oommen Chandy.

Murali had planned a satyagraha protesting against the neglect shown by the state govt  in connection with the monorail project. The proposed satyagraha was in front of the secretariat building from December 9 onwards. Nevertheless, he withdrew his strike 20 days in advance

Intermittent satyagraha is good for tummy people as it would make them lean. Muralidharan might have waited up to Dec 8 to make some among his followers.

Mani’s arrest.

The arrest of CPI-M leader M M Mani is due to  the error of his counsel who advised him not to  turn up for a polygraph test for the probe in connection with his controversial speech about elimination of party rivals. The counsel should have evaluated this possibility too. Mani’s arrest is not a big news as his crime deserves punitive action. The CPM-M calling a hartal In Idukki is just  because they have no good business at present in the State. It could be presumed that hartal would continue as the next person going to be arrested is party’s district secretary himself, who is also one accused in the case.

Mani's speech caused embarrassment to all and hence some sort of check is needed for those who make fuss  with their loose tongues.

Minister of nuisance!

This is for quite another time the Excise Minister of Kerala K Babu twists his tongue against the Hight Court of Kerala.

During the first week of last month the Kerala High Court has slammed his statement that the people would decide what they should drink and not the court. Disturbed by this Justice S.Siri Jagan observed that if the people could decide what they should do, why should there be laws like compulsory wearing of helmets by riders of two-wheelers. Sometimes, laws were made to protect the people against themselves. The classic example was the Abkari Act itself. Why should there were licensing of liquor, if the people could decide what they should drink? And that was a direct warning to the Minister.

However, now with his statement on the other day the Minister once again targeted the court saying that the court had clipped out the Abkari policy of the government. With his repeated statements against the court it seems that minister Babu of the UDF is making a M V (Mulaku Vellam) Jayarajan of the LDF. The court may therefore contemplate to put a lock on Babu’s tongue that he should, no longer, make rubbish speak against the honourable courts and the rule of the land. Of course, this minister has become a public nuisance. The habit of politicians, irrespective of their hue, coming out with scathing attacks on courts should be detained  by High Court itself.

Utter lethargy in State Information Commission

 It was in 2005, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government introduced India’s first Right to Information Act, an anti-corruption measure that was intended to provide citizens access to records and documents kept by local and central authorities. Applicants submit questions attached to a simple request for information. The RTI law gave hundreds of millions of Indians the ability to hold the country’s vast bureaucracy to account, and, it was hoped, to arrest the endemic corruption in its ranks. The RTI law had been a central plank of the Congress campaign in the 2004 general elections

This is an old story as the present performance of the Commission, particularly in Kerala, is a damp squib. Any Government agency can keep unanswered for RTI application and its first appeal as the second appeal to the State Information Commission remains unattended for many years. There are many complainants against the State Information Commission about its inefficacy to the settle cases violating RTI Act. The Commission may have its justification like shortage of staff and other infrastructure. Then the responsibility goes to the UDF ministry  which boasts  much for achievements in the State. The State Information Commission has turned out into a white elephant to feed some worn-out Government Staff and unworthy old politicians where lakhs of rupees are  siphoned for no work. The time delay is the worst handicap all the cases in judicial forums, likewise  the Information Commission has also entered into the bottle neck utter lethargy.  Hereinafter people would not expect any quick action for their RTI requests as the condition of the State RTI Commission is deplorably poor.

If the agency, which has the  power to impose penalties on recalcitrant officials, sits ideal , no one is going to submit  petitions under RTI Act.  An unlimited time permission to SIC to handle appeals is a major fault of RTIA 2005. Unless something is done immediately to protect the RTI Act, which is intended to spot the beginning of a new era of corruption-free India, it would then mark another dark era of the country.

Defence Minister’s fear

For quite long A K Antony was under the presumption that he was sidelined by the UDF leaders in Kerala. This is the sole reason for otherwise tight-lipped Antony to open his mouth in Kerala against one-and-half year-old Congress-led United Democratic Front government.  Antony said that he could not risk bringing new defence projects to Kerala as the industrial environment in the state in the last one-and-a-half years has not been favourable for investments. But in fact the atmosphere in Kerala is not as worse as one at the time of Antony’s regime.

 Nevertheless, Antony has shown his shrewdness in praising both VS Achuthanandan and his arch rival Elamaram Kareem, the one who called the former as ‘class enemy’ for the first time in the milieu of group rivalry in Marxist party. From 2006 to 2011, the Left front ministry gave Antony unstinting support, is fake claim. For people who live in Kerala, Industries Minister Kareem in the last LDF ministry and present Industries P K  Kunhalikutty are the birds of the same feather known for interest in realty business.

The daring Defence minister of India Antony fears to allocate new projects to Kerala because of the existing ‘terrorism’ in the State. Thus he turned this God’s on country to terrorists’ own country. Or else he might have disclosed the person responsible for the unfavourable atmosphere in the State without sending people for a wild guess.

Next queue before bank counter.

In what is called a gobbledygook decision the State Government of Kerala is pushing the BPL and APL ration card holders to yet  another queue, after the one in front of rations shops, and that is before bank counters. The card holders should give their bank account number before March 31, next year and the subsidy would be credited with the outstanding amount from Jan 1. Those who give their account number after that date would be credited with the subsidy from then on, the CM said

In fact most of the BPL card holders do not hold a bank account and of course for that reason they have a peaceful mind as they have never experienced the callous attitude of some bank officials.  This will end soon as the consumers have to give their existing bank account numbers and wait before the cash counter of the bank. And also they have to sleep with their pass book to know whether they have been credited for ration subsidy.

No doubt, the curse of IT overweighs its merit at least for ration card holders.

Kejriwal is India’s Assange

Julian Assange is a nightmare to political leaders ranging from U S President to mediocre Branch Secretary of CPM in Kerala. The reason is he exposes the corruption of these people with undeniable proof. Arvind Kejriwal is his Indian counterpart who declared ‘war’ with corrupt Indian politicians and deceitful Corporate heads. Kejriwal has released details and levelled charges against top Indian politicians and the country’s biggest business conglomerate.

On October 5, Kejriwal made a public accusation against Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress party president Sonia Gandhi. He claimed that Vadra had purchased property worth millions of dollars with “interest free unsecured free loan” by DLF, India’s major construction company. DLF’s market value dropped in a single day to the tune of $580m following the accusation. The accusation still stands unsettled authentically and the accused are waiting for short life of the memory of the public.

Then, on October 17, Kejriwal targeted the opposition party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He accused party president Nitin Gadkari of land grabbing by colluding with the ruling party in the western state of Maharashtra, and exploiting poor farmers to further his business interests in real estate.

Now he revealed about the dubious Swiss bank account of Indian politicians and Corporate heads. In fact Kejriwal’s accusations seem to have vitalized the people and created awareness, No doubt he is India’s Julian Assange.

Direct spit on Malayali’s face.

For cheap popularity and money man could do any nastiest thing. And that is what one see when film maker  Blessywho had experimented with the delivery of  actress Swetha Menon. He has filmed 38year old actress Ms Menon's ‘painful’ delivery for his latest film Kalimannu. He claims that he used four cameras at the same time to capture all features of the delivery. This means the fifth camera, which was indented to place in the delivery track  was abandoned because of space constraint!

As the shooting schedule is over,  next will be the film promotion. And that will soon take place in channels and colleges, especially Women’s colleges as they are the beneficiaries of the information gathered from this non-sense film. With this film Blessy, the director who makes films of lunatics and persons of memory loss, would become an international figure as there is only one such film  in the industry.

One experiences sex through touch, sight, sound and sometimes through smell, as one noted novelist described.  In Blessy’s case he has experimented with sight, sound and smell  with Ms Menonl. And whether he has any touch with this woman could only be revealed during channel promotion. I think Ms Menon’s husband has given permission to the film maker to disclose this too.

There is an agency called Film Censor Board at Delhi and elsewhere to check the contemptible acts in cinema industry. And if they permit this highly objectionable film  to be released, they should  to be beaten up.

Kalimannu is not about the relationship between a thirty eight year old mother and her newborn but a direct spit on Malayali’s face.

Haughty Congress MP

To counteract Marxist brutality in Kannur man like K Sudharan was a design of the nature. Nevertheless, he and his party stooped to the level low by his protest outside the Valapattanam police station demanding the release of a Congress leader. The Congress leader was taken into custody for threatening the inspector of the station in a case relating to illegal sand transporting.

Like the Marxist leaders under LDF regime, the Congress leaders have also become very haughty in dealing with police force. K Sudhakaran’s behaviour is no less than the conduct of M V Jayarajan asking one Dy S P about pushing ‘spear into somebody’s anus’.

I doubt whether law would take its own course in Sudhakaran’s case as the Congress has no chance for winning any election in Kannur without Sudhakaran. It is Sudhakaran to apologise in public to regain his image gone off due to indecent protest at Valapattanam police station.

Priceless wife, first or second or third?

It is of very bad taste for the State of Kerala where in a reception accorded to newly sworn in Minister Shashi Tharoor at Thiruvananthapuram, a Congress worker misbehaved with Sunanda.Pushkar, the wife of the minister. And it is the habit of some Congress workers to annoy women and get slapped on face. It has been reported that an Irritated Pushkar responded quickly by slapping Congress man a couple of times.

The Congress leaders of the state are seen not much worried over the incident as it is customary among them, nevertheless the Marxist daily that survived the Emergency has declared emergency over the incident. The front page of the daily carries major space with comments of those who are well versed on such subjects and also quoted the mutual verbal attacks of Shasi Tharoor and Gujarat CM Narendra Modi.

Modi said in a meeting that Shashi Tharoor's wife Sunanda Pushkar was a Rs 50-crore Girlfriend. And in retort to Modi, Tharoor tweeted back, “My  wife is priceless”.
Which wife, is it first or second or third? And that was the question of my friend Christa.

Cheer no much, Alappuzhayans.

There are a total of 640 districts in India and Alappuzha is the one. It is rather difficult to sort out any other district in India with the unique status of having four Central Ministers. The Cabinet Ministers A K Antony and Vayalar Ravi, other ministers K C Venugopal and new incumbent Kodikunnel Suresh- all represent the Alappuza district. Nevertheless, one of the most backward districts in Kerala is not going to advantage much. Just one example is the Alappuzha by-pass. This by-pass has a dubious history of past 25 years, and still remaining in the same initial unfinished state. This by-pass can be considered as the monument of the inefficacy of the ministers  representing Alappuzha. This will continue even if Kodikkunnel assumes charge.

   

The latest cabinet reshuffle exposes the government since corrupt ministers are protected. The re-appointment of Shashi Tharoor as minister is a case of testing the poor memory of the public. The IPL ‘sweat share’ and related matters still remain unresolved but Tharoor got his berth again. One hopes that he would once again avoid his cattle class journeyand stay in ‘Five stars’ abandoning ministerial huts.

The ‘corrupt’ Salman Khurshid) was law minister and has been elevated as foreign minister. Thanks for not making him the PM. 

The present reshuffle in the Central Ministry is not for the benefit of the country but for the politicians.

Kejriwal’s crusade.

A person like Arvind Kejriwal is a must for our society.  It has become difficult for all party leaders to disregard Kejriwal’s crusade against corruption. Kehriwal’s accusation against Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra, Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid and his wife Louise Khurshid, Nationalist Congress Party leader Ajit Pawar, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit,and BJP President Gadgiri remains unattended or little attended.

As a weak and repulsive response Vadra commented about the plight of “mango people in a banana republic”.  Vadra has no explanation about his unholy nexus with DLF Company and the Haryana government.  On the other hand Khurshid on television channels asked if  Kejriwal could visit his constituency, Farrukhabad, he might experience some difficulty in leaving the area. Khurshid was in an outright confrontation mood with Kejriwal.  

.The leaders who are accused of corruption by Kejriwal are seemingly found difficult to defend themselves. This means Kejriwal is right in action against corruption. His crusade will dare the politicians and their relatives not to involve further corruption, though these fraudsters are not punished for past misdeed.

No need to seek explanation from Tom Jose

The Kerala Cabinet decision to seek an explanation Tom Jose IAS  who in a letter on the proposed Kochi Metro Rail project sought clarification from union Urban Development secretary Sudhir Krishna on  E. Sreedharan's role in the project, is not in the right direction. What is wrong in writing a letter to one Government Secretary by another? After all who is E Sreedharan for  Kerala ministers. Doesn’t the project show up without Sreedharan? Is there no person in the world other than Sreedharan to materialise the Kochi Metro?

Tom Jose is an able bureaucrat and a man of vision. As he never dance with the juggle of thoughtless politicians many LDF firebrands, and minister Aryadan Muhammed keep despise towards him. It is better for Aryadan to give up charge of this project. Aryadan’s incapability is the sole reason for all the mess in the Kochi Metro project.

Of course, the Cabinet could decide what action should be taken against Tom Jose but this would augment the reason for able IAS officers to abandon the state. If these officers wish to seek berths in central ministry there is no difference between LDF and UDF regarding proceed to top civil servants.

That Pakistani cute girl Malala Yousufzai has  drawn all world attention and prayers because of Taliban  brutality .  The Taliban extremists who shot in the head of Yousufzai deserve no mercy and this extremist group should be wiped out from the world.

Yousufzai, who was advocating education for girls, was not against Islam and the Taliban is not the sole proprietor of Islam. There are many Muslim groups in the world that speak against the Taliban, demolishers Budha statues in Afghanistan.

Taliban extremism is a curse of the present world and that should be dealt with an iron hand by all world countries.

Stupid act by Government.

State Government secretly moving a waste treatment plant into the dump-yard in the in Vilappilasala panchayat under the cover of darkness when the people were asleep was a stupid act. . The anti-garbage crusade in Vilappilsala is a reasonable one as the people of that village are not obliged to hold all the malice of the entire city corporation of Thiruvananthapuram. 

The corporation people are living there for their convenience and they should find their own way to dispose the waste. The waste sending to adjacent village is same as one throwing waste kit to neighbours’ compound. All sensible people, therefore, should support the intense struggle  of Vilappilsala people  against dumping of wastes in the yard by the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.  

Why can’t the Corporation find places within its premise to dispose waste they accrue? Why the Corporation dumps waste to contaminate all their water sources of Vilappilsala?  Are the people of Vilappilsala lesser human beings? Why the Corporation stopped immediately the move to dump waste to abandoned granite quarries?  

The City Corporation should ask hoteliers and others to sort out their own waste disposal methods. Meanwhile it should find places within its premise to dispose waste.

No public toilet in Cherthala

Cherthala town and neighborhood are badly in need of public toilets.   Elderly persons suffering from prostate and urinary infections find it very difficult meet their natural calls while in Cherthala. Cherthala is the land of great leaders like Antonyji and Vayalarji and when one visits this place his day often ends up in disgrace.

The municipality is the custodian of public toilets. The public toilets installed long back are neglected and the present rulers are interested only  in e-toilets. By spending several lakhs of rupees two e-toilets were purchased by the municipality but kept in safe custody without installing. The reason told is, the municipal authority has apprehension about the feasibility of these toilets. The news from neighboring place Aroor where one e-toilet installed is, however, not in favor of  putting a new one. In Aroor the e-toilet is in an abandoned condition and the users enter e-toilet for not the purpose it is meant but for safe intake of liquors. The other reason it is heard from Cherthala is that it is very difficult find  a political leader capable of  inaugurating an e-toilet.

The people of Cherthala are mostly peace loving except some skirmish around Poochackal and elsewhere. That is why they have no intense protest against waste disposal and negligence of the municipality. The waste collection and disposal system of the Municipality are  poor and fish vendors are polluting the entire street with waste water from fish containers. Mosquito growth in the town has multiplied, and if it goes at the present rate the land of filariasis will regain its past ‘glory’

Five day drill for State employees.

The proposal by the Kerala Government for five-day work week for its employees is borne out of financial emergency rather than any ingenious plan to improve administration.  The proposal is just like the drivel model pension age hike and the contributory pension.

The services by Kerala Government employees are very poor. The Chief Minister’s much said “Mass contact programme” is pointer to this. If employees do their designated work on time there would arise no mass contact programme.  As it stands now, the lessening of a work day result in poorer services for the public though there is no much gain for government expenditure.  Just as an instance I may quote one.

There is an office at Ernakulam called the office the Deputy Director of Collegiate Education. This office is meant for looking the service need of all the teaching and non-teaching staff members of 33 aided colleges associated with. The action on service and pension papers of many staff members are  long overdue at this office. There are teachers working in affiliated colleges for about two years since appointment without salary due to the inefficacy of this office.  None is bothered to see the employees available there do their work. It is learnt from a college clerk visiting DD office that the clerk in duty of dealing with pension papers attend the office only once in week. Does it mean that if 5 day week is implemented this clerk would never attend his office? The superior officer who is about to retire soon is least bothered in correcting his junior because of his future pension apprehensions.

So, the Government planning to improve administration should see that the employees are present in their office in time and doing their duty. The habit of leaving the office for union meet after putting signature should be made illegal.   An immediate accountability check of the staff is more important than executing five day drill for them.

Dog killers should be arrested.

It is has become a frequent incident in Kerala that stray dogs are attacked and killed by unidentified persons. The culprits repeat the killing without any mercy and these people should be condemned.  The Animal Welfare Board  in the state is seen to have some business other than one to see the welfare of the animals.  It is a pity that people killing dogs cruelly in the state is out of control.
It is our duty not to make the lives of the fellow stray animals difficult. When someone buys a dog, he should be aware that he is buying almost 15 years of love, care and happiness. The dog killers should be brought to book at any cost.

Insulting the nation.

With new  allegations against former Prime Minister P V Narasimha  Rao, former KPCC President K Muraleedharan, who was re-inducted into the Congress in February last year after a six-year-long suspension, is paving his way out from the party rather than making a strategy to come back to higher place in the party. A dead man never speaks; the former KPCC President too knows this and  that is why he places  allegations against a former P M, who is no more.

Muraleedharan’s ill speak would certainly cause discomfort for the Congress in the national level. Probably Muraleedharan has no evidence other than his father’s voice to his dear son who was in frequent quarrel with his father at the fag end of latter’s life. The allegation that former Prime Minister  Narasimha Rao could have played a role in a conspiracy behind the sensational ISRO espionage case of 1994, is very weak.

It is time-honored not to insult a dead leader or a dead man. In Muraleedharan’s case this customary gesture has been violated. Muraleedharan has insulted the former prime Minister and a national leader. There will be no takers for K Muraleedharan in the Congress party and outside.

Common man’s burden

The poor people of the country were leading a peaceful life by using log, waste paper and what else as fuel for cooking their foods. Then ‘the people friendly’ government came onward asking them to abandon the old practice of cooking with wood and switch over LPG. In India most the natural gases are wasted and if people choose it for cooking it would be advantageous for both people and government.. The people soon abandoned their tradition and switched over to LPG. What happened? When all started using LPG the government  hiked its cost and the people have to run from pillar to post to get gas cylinder either in subsidized rate or not. The cunning Oil companies and the dealers made it an opportunity to book a good buck. The lesson that the people learned is:  never trust the rulers.

Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s image has taken a beating, thanks to the controversy surrounding her son-in-law Robert Vadra’s dealings with the DLF. Arvind Kejriwal’s allegation that Mr. Vadra acquired huge wealth due to his DLF connection — with the company being given 350 acres of land by the Haryana government as a quid pro quo — is shocking. Congress spokespersons need to do a lot to defend Mr. Vadra.

Vadra’s assets

Somia Gandhi's public image has been shattered by charges against her son-in law Vadra. It has been reported that Priyanka Gandhi's husband has been on a property buying spree and he  had accumulated 31 properties in three Congress-ruled states of Haryana, Rajasthan and New Delhi between 2007 and 2010. The list of assets, if true, is astounding. More than 160 acres of land was purchased by Vadra in Bikaner, Rajasthan.

Kejriwal’ questions are seemingly acceptable. How come in just four years Vadra could buy so much land. What is his source of income? The Congress spokespersons have to drink a lot of water to defend Vadra and his shady transactions. The Congress politics have reached its bottom. 

I wonder how the leaders like Antony, who claims to be always clean, work with Sonia Gandhi and company?

Toddy is harmful

Toddy is not a drink which is injurious to health, says KPCC chief Ramesh Chennithala. Where from he got this information? Is there any scientific backing for his finding? The eighteen percent alcohol content in pure toddy is injurious to health and it will affect drunkard's liver. If not harmful what is the need for erecting a board showing"consumption of liquor is injurious to health" before all the toddy shops in Kerala? 

It is not pure toddy but poisoned toddy is sold in all shops of Kerala and its harmful effect is beyond any count. 

If one claims toddy industry has saved many families, then the same industry has ruined families ten times. The hereditary industry of Kerala can be saved by making diverse products out of toddy. Direct consumption is not the only use of toddy.

Pakistan love jihad.

Love has no barriers and it is blind. The advocates of ‘eternal love’ could rejoice now.  The magic of blind love is inexplicable, otherwise, the handsome young Bilawal, the future Pakistan premier, aged 24 , will not  fall  in love with a 35 years old, mother of two daughters, Hina Rabbani Khar, Pakistan Foreign Minister.

 Though it is purely a Pakistan affair, we Indians are much interested in it not only because of our foreign minister S M Krishna’s bilateral exchange with Khar but of the enthusiasm we always show in India-Pakistan cricket match. The Khar-Bilawal love affair is a sufficient tool for the mind set for those who hate older woman marrying young man.

Let the women have an upper hand and they decide matters for a better world.

This State is not for the poor.

Any rise in the price of diesel or petrol will certainly raise the price of essential commodities. However, in Kerala price raise of commodities is beyond any proportion. The ineptness of the state government is very much evident in checking the unfair price rise.

The State of Kerala depends on other states for every item of daily use. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh may have his justifications for the hike in the price of diesel but prices of essential commodities are soaring at unprecedented rates. Can one justify Rs 12 hike for one kg rice when there is only Rs 5 hike for one litre diesel?

 Prices of all essential commodities have gone up in Kerala by up to 40 percent since September 14, the day the diesel price hike came into force. The traders, who seek protection from common people against the impact of FDI in retail market, have cunningly manipulated market conditions.  The Congress-led UDF Government in the State in collusion with these deceitful traders did nothing to control the sudden surge in prices. The ministers like Arayadan, and K C Joseph have made it an occasion to hike prices of electricity and milk from Milma. Bus tickets also cost more in the immediate future.

The State has been turned into a land for the rich where the ordinary and poor are to bear the brunt of tough measures by the Centre. The State rulers are mere spectators having  no control over devious traders and bus-lorry owners.

Hassan-Isaac war.

The ugly spat going over Janasree and Kudumbasree can be rightly put as Hassan-Isaac war. Janasree Chairman M M Hassan alleges that former minister T M Thomas Isaac is spreading false news against Janasree Mission to tarnish his image. He also alleges that Kudumbasree schemes organised by Isaac and coterie are nothing but farce. All the Isaac’s projects in Mararikulam are not at all functioning now according to Hassan and that is a truth. The PDS instituted by the blessing of Isaac under the chairmanship S N College professor T Pradeep is on the verge of collapse as the local co-operative bank has sent notice for payment of dues in tune with Rs 5 lakh.

On the other hand Thomas Isaac argues that Kudumbasree mission is the only sustainable project and Janasree is formed to slay Kudumbasree.

Whatever it maybe, people believe that Kudumbasree is the project intended to help comrades and Janasree to assist Congress men. More specifically Kudumbasree is to attract women for Marxist party procession in red ‘set sari’ and Janasree to align women in green set sari.  In both missions poltiticians divert plan fund for their personal gains and that is what one see in the inept implementation of projects undertaken by both Janasree and Kudumbasree. Growth of Janasree is obviously due to misappropriation funds in Kudumbasree and acute politicisation of its projects.

Nothing serious

The TMC pullout of the Congress-led ruling coalition, tilting the govt into a minority, is nothing much serious. Mamta and her TMC could come back to coalition at any time, the past story tells so. It is not for the first time the UPA 2  have came with anti-people policies and in all the occasions, after an initial protest, Mamta reaffirmed her faith in the coalition. And that is after getting a lush package for her government from the Centre. This time also, one expects, Mamta will return after discussion with UPA chair person Sonia Gandhi.

It is to be stated that decision of the Central Government to raise diesel price and open India's supermarket sector to investment from foreign chains are out and out anti-people. The prices of essential commodities have increased 15-20 percent with the diesel price hike. The price hike would not come down even if the diesel price is fully or partly withdrawn.

The question that whether the government survive or not is meaningless as there are several regional parties ready to fish in troubled waters. The support to Congress by Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) is not based on any national interest but on personal gains.

Emerging Kerala dud.

The preceding GIM organised by the Kerala Government was a dud. Likewise the present “Emerging Kerala 2012”. What has emerged in the whole meet is the greed of some politicians and stupidity of some bureaucrats.  They all want to sell the whole land of Kerala to multinationals for a throwaway price.

Disgraces emerged in the Emerging Kerala meet is beyond any proportion. The latest controversy concerns the claim of the Government that Volkswagen India had presented a proposal at the meet for setting up a Rs 2,000-crore engine assembly unit in Kochi. It was summarily rejected by Volkswagen Spokesman.

Another interesting thing that emerged in the meet is the foolhardiness of Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia. He asked all Keralites to abandon paddy fields and convert them into industrial houses. For people like  Ahluwalia with specially made turbans paddy is immaterial as they eat only wheat.

There is much confusion about the proposals worth 40,000crore evolved in the meet. The CM or the Industries minister is not able give a clear picture about its outcome. What is clear is, huge amount that is lavishly spent for organising this drivel meet. The Opposition has taken a wise decision by boycotting the meet. Their credibility stands high with Ahluwalia’s theory that Kerala need not focus on food security and PM’s five finger gesture of hiking diesel price by Rs five on leaving the venue after inaugurating the meet.

Spoilsport by SCERT

It is reported that the education department has decided to implement an open book on demand online examination style for higher secondary students. The SCERT recommended a complete change in syllabus along with conduct of examination and valuation. SCERT opts for OMR examination style with multiple choice questions.

The multiple-choice question model examination is just blind man’s throw on a mango tree and occasionally he gets one or two.  A teacher of medical science recently told me that many students admitted to MBBS are below average because they passed the medical entrance test only by sheer luck at OMR tests. Some of the students admitted do not even know to write a passage correctly. The advocates of multiple-choice question model of entrance test may argue that medical education needs no passage writing. And for them medical education is just a bubble shading with blank ink!

According to the report, students must evaluate teachers too. This, of course, is now happening many schools where teachers are manhandled by students with political sponsors from outside. And in future if a teacher is unpopular among students’ political outfit he would get a low grade.

    

The SCERT wants to reduce strain of students and to lessen the burden of higher secondary examination. Why can’t this be extended to medical entrance examination and Bank/PSCtests too? To give least strain and equal opportunity to all-that is the right choice. Is n’t it.?
