Priests, particularly Catholic priests, are a class who are drilled fiercely a decade or more by keeping them on knees to view everything so unwearyingly that they could even laugh loudly at funerals and suppurate silently at weddings.   The Status study of Kerala women fish vendors done by the Catholic priest S. Ignatius tells a story in this line.

The priest S Ignatius, the secretary of TSSS (Trivandrum Social Service Society) in his study found that among women fish vendors in the State capital sexuality remained a taboo topic, and discussion of sexuality within families does not happen. According to him these women remain largely ignorant of different options for contraception and have poor sexual hygiene. Menstruation is considered impure and not even discussed, so adolescent girls grow up with little knowledge of their own bodies. More interesting findings are: only 24 percent of the women in the study could tell what happened to the female body during menstruation and only eight percent of the women used sanitary pads. Barely 21 percent of the women understand sexuality before they were married.

There is a character called “Kurathi Kalyani” in S L Puram Sadanandan’s fames drama “ Kattukuthira”. Kalyani tells: “when she needs sex she would fume some oyster (kakka) and breathe in the burn”.  As the topic of study of father Ignatius is interesting he will be the most sort person for several invited talks on status study of Thiruvananthapuram women.  Unquestionably the Catholic priests practising celibacy need a way out for their sexual urge.

The man who revolutionised the milk industry in India is no more. The 10 million farmers and millions of Amul users are indebted to V Kurien, the father of White Revolution. He was a man of vision and breath of imagination.
The Amul pattern of co-operative societies became a success and it was replicated throughout in Gujarat. It was a model to all milk societies in India. Kurien will be remembered for his contribution to the milk industry. Adieu to the great entrepreneur!

The Punjab Government has asked all its departments to pre-maturely retire the corrupt and inefficient officers to provide a clean and transparent administration. Why can’t the same rule be extended to Kerala too?
Many of the government offices in Kerala are doing little or no work, indicated by the heaps of files pending on the tables of ‘babus’.
They give lame excuses for non-performance. A thorough review of the work record of these employees should be done. Since officials are reluctant to do their duty on time, the ministers interfere and often land up in trouble oblivious of the rules and facts. It is finally the court that rectifies the failing. The intervention of the judiciary in day-to-day matters of the government points out at the inefficacy of the bureaucracy.

Put the phone in Manmohan Singh mode.

Most people of India do not have the habit of reading more than two dailies. And if one keeps a taste of reading more than a dozen a day he will satisfy with New York Times from America and the Tele graph from London. The Washington Post or Asian Age may not be a selection for an august reader. The PMO office in India has made it a big business by compelling all Indians to read the Washington Post. And that all started with an article published in the Post against Indian PM Dr Manmohan Singh.

Whether or not Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is a sad figure, it is not the concern of Americans. It is the concern of Indians. In India itself there is harsh criticism against the PM about 2G scam, Coal gate and what else. He is the subject matter of offensive articles and   crude poems. For instance in a poem by Kerala’s former Co-operation Minister G Sudhakaran, the PM has been ridiculed much. Mr. Sudhakaran has, of course, written a more vulgar poem about US President Barrack Obama  titled  “Who are you Obama?”. Nevertheless,  none from the US is seen worried about the humiliation done to Obama by Sudhakaran’s poem published in a Malayalam daily.

The man in the Washington post who wrote the article about Manmohan Singh may not be a person of  high esteem. He is  just a column writer and then why the PMO office makes it a big issue. The profile published by the Post said the prime minister's image of a 'scrupulously honorable, humble and intellectual technocrat' had turned into one who is 'a dithering, ineffectual bureaucrat presiding over a deeply corrupt government'.  This observation is apparently true as corruption in the country is far beyond any reckon.

It is better for PMO office to keep their mobile phones on 'Manmohan Singh mode',  that is, on  the silent mode. There is no need for much hullaballoo about the article in the Washington Post.

Entry into the “last resort of a scoundrel” is a tough task for a person especially a woman celebrity at 70. This I say not because of the task of appointing a person to accompany her with bottle of ayurvedic emulsion to use at knee pain but of of the difficulty in tackling the crowd she attracts. “Karuthamma”  is still a heart throb for “sixty plus youths”.

The veteran actress Sheela has thrilled not only the Defence Minister of the country but all Keralaites with her decision to join Congress. Certainly her choice is good as she could, at least, save her life even if she abandons the party. Some other political parties in Kerala never tolerate when its member leaves the party discontented.

When Sheela visited his home the Defence Minister might have delighted much and cherished those hassle-free days in Thiruvananthapuram where he and his disciple Cherian Philip roamed from theatre to theatre watching Sheela and Nazir “tree orbiting” on the silver screen.

Sheela  holds the world record for acting as the leading lady of Malayalam "evergreen hero" Prem Nazir in the maximum number of films (110), and now she needs to do something for the people, especially for women. Nevertheless, her attempt to save the boozers of the State would reach nowhere as the Government itself survives on the 6000 crore collected as tax over liquor sale. Again, whatever may be her contribution to culture and politics, the stalwarts of the Congress like Sobhana George, Padmaja and  Sindhu Joy  are not ready to discount it. The Youth Congress Men will not allow Sobhana, Padmaja and Sindhu to sacrifice themselves for the seventy plus old lady. Sheela will be always under these ladies.

Punjab Government has decided to do away with its inefficient officers and employees. For this purpose, the State Government asked all its departments to pre-maturely retire the corrupt and inefficient officers and employees to provide a clean and transparent administration. Why can’t it be extended to Kerala too?

Many of the State Government employees in Kerala are doing little work or no work. The heap of files pending on their tables is an indication for this. The lame excuse of these employees is that the files were accumulated by the person just before him in his place and he is new to the post. And when a person asks about this he says: “These files are intended for CM’s Mass Contact Programme”. A thorough reviewing of the work record of these employees should be done and they should be allowed to continue in service until they meet the requisites. All officials absconding from their seat during work time for union work should be identified and they should be sent on leave for doing that work.

Since all officials are reluctant to do their duty in time, the ministers interfere and often land up in trouble unknowing the rules. And it is finally the court that rectifies the failing. The interference of court in all day-to-day matters of the government fingers to the inefficacy of the bureaucracy. The Punjab model to abandon the inefficient officials is quite welcome.

If anyone has uncertainty about the intellect of British Cabinet ministers, Lords, MPs, eminent professors of Cambridge and Oxford Universities and London School of Economics, it will fade away with the talk of Mani in the British Parliament. The State Finance Minister K M Mani is all set to deliver a speech by entering the British House of Commons as a special invitee, it is reported. The subject of talk is his famed `Working Class Ideology’ (Adhwana Varga Sidhantham).

If this subject is incomprehensible to the Commons, then Mani will speak about his famous research topic ‘grow and split’ (valarum, pilarum’). For quite long the English men are forgotten laughing at jokes.

Liquor tourism in Kerala

“If bar timings are imposed here, it will be a death knell for the tourism industry” is the view of a leading resort owner from Kovalam. This means the revenue in tune with Rs.6,000 crore to the state government by way of taxes is totally from liquor tourism.  The inquiry of Kerala High Court about prohibiting foreign liquor in bars and hotels before 5pm by September 10 has annoyed the State Government.

The Chief Minister and other ministers always talk in full mouth about reducing liquor consumption in the State. Nevertheless, they have seemingly lost control over the inquiry of the court. When court asked about the closing of bars annoyed Excise officials are thinking of closing 383 government-owned outlets that sell liquor.

The Court’s inquiry, of course, has brought out the emptiness in the words of ministers about reducing gradually liquor consumption in the State. The rulers could not pass over the huge revenue the State collected as tax.

It is ugly politics.

It is not green or greedy politics in Kerala but ugly politics. Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy  playing down appearance of posters against him at the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee office  is a part of it. The posters accused him of being responsible for the delay in reconstitution of KPCC and DCCs and criticized his unsure stand on Nelliyampathy estate cases. The Congress men could not affix these without the consent of the green politics campaigners.

The reason for UDF rule to still sustain in the State is not its merit but by the split in the LDF. Nelliyampathy estate issue has snowballed into a major crisis for Congress and ruling UDF because some are benefitted and others not.  Seemingly the law of equi-partition was not observed in distributing money collected from Nelliampathy.  

The ruling front and the opposition parties lost faith in Kerala police and that is why they demand CBI inquiry in all shambles.  State Forest Minister KB Ganeshkumar  seeking  CBI probe into Nelliampathy issue indicates what else. The term “green politics” is a misnomer as none in the State is interested in protecting its green pastures. Congress MLAs’ claim that they stand for 'green politics' is dubious. Their revolt is against Oommen Chandy with the blessing of oneat the Centre.

Marriage is not in heaven but in different panchayats.!

Reason for preferring Kerala as a place for marriage is, of course, the convenience of the people especially the foreigners. They get married easily and  get the marriage certificate not one but many from local bodies if marriages are conducted in different locations. The rules of the marriage registration agency particularly those of the panchayats are baggy to get certificate very easily. It is now not an offence to get more certificates by arranging the marriage of the same couple at different localities.

Today I attended a Christian marriage at Vanaswargam Church, S L Puram, Cherthala for which the bride was one converted from Hindu religion. The marriage is likely to be registered in Kanjikkuzhy panchayat. The reception was arranged in an auditorium at Muhamma Panchayat. When I reached the auditorium the people there were waiting for the bride and groom to come as the “muhurtham” was almost ahead for the marriage. Soon the couple married  at the church an hour before  reached spot in Hindu marriage attire and re-married in the Hindu style. A priest (Shanti) of the local SNDPwith a photo of Sre Narayana Guru and a traditional lamp was present their to chant the Hindu marriage manthras. Obviously this Hindu marriage is going to be registered in Muhamma Munchayat. The whole incident was incomprehensible to me and hence I left the place avoiding the reception. I think, I was invited only for the Christian marriage in the Church.

And which certificate the couple is going to collect is unknown to me. Perhaps they collect certificates from both the panchayats and use them advantageously for their foreign trips. And they also keep separate wedding albums to show their kids in future the diverse version of their marriages. This is not my first experience  to attend a marriage of the sort as I had another experience  at Kanichukulangara Co-operative bank auditorium a few months back.

I can’t understand why the people arrange both the types of marriage ceremony for inter-caste marriages. Why can’t they prefer a registered marriage in that case?.  Does the law permit people to hold two more marriage certificates?  And if it is a criminal offence what is the punishment? Could the marriage registration authority issue certificates  without proper enquiry?

Thanks to cell phone and the Internet.  Coming are the days of more and more “online” inter-caste marriages. The government should weigh up to make rules to contain marriage frauds.

CPM Kangaroo court

The Kerala CPM have made an introspection about the violence they organised in connection with the arrest of their Kannur District Secretary. That is why they kept silence on August 13 when   one of their MLAs T V Rajesh  being locked up in jail under remand. The MLA was seen very happy with no weeping, his usual practice of sharing emotions at minor episodes. The People of Kerala have not forgotten the scene in the recently concluded session in the Kerala Assembly.

The police have done a tough job by charging Rajesh with concealing design to commit the crime under Section 118 of the IPC in the Shukoor murder case. Rajesh and P Jayarajan, both now in Kannur jail, could fight the cases legally and the two Jayarajan’s outside the jail politically. It is M V Jayarajan who benifitted much with P Jayarajan's arrest. Decayed one is the manure for the other.

It is hoped that the Marxist executioners would stop their work with the further proceedings of this case and similar others as conspiring leaders are also booked along with serial killers.  The CPM Kangaroo court should stop functioning in the State -that is the need of the hour.

Risky contributory pension

Bizarre is the decision of the Kerala Government to replace statutory pension scheme with the contributory pension scheme for its new employees joining from next year. This can be thought as a free runner to hike the retirement age from 56 to 60. Seemingly the present government has no concern about the fates of thousands of unemployed educated youths waiting for a job.

For the present staff, the decision of the government about contributory pension and pension age hike is something very sweet to chew and the same time very sour to swallow. Past experience tells that the youth organizations cannot be trusted because they are more interested in matters other than those related to unemployed youths.

The Chief Minister or else who defending the pension age hike by quoting examples of other states is unacceptable as the situation is entirely different in Kerala. It is of course a bad practice on the part of the government to sustain by withholding the retirement benefits of the employees. The government implementing such bizarre pension scheme without any discussion in the State assembly or among public is unjustifiable.

The pension fund collected by way of contributory pension is going to the hands of private mutual fund and insurance promoters and the past records of most of them are dubious The future pensioners are likely to lose their pension as operation in stock market is unpredictable especially when the fund managers are unscrupulous persons. The present decision of the government is highly risky and it should be withdrawn.

Illegitimate father

I congratulate Rohit Shekhar, son of N D Tiwari and  Ujjwala Sharma  for his quest to not be called a ‘bastard’. As no one is born without a father it is highly humiliating to use the word ‘bastard’ against a man. It was not Rohit Shekhar alone in the country who has gone through such a humiliating experience. Rohit is a trailblazer to many who had undergone bitter experiences. He said: “I am not the illegitimate son, he(Tiwari) is my illegitimate father”. This is absolutely right.

High profile Congress leader ND Tiwari misused his political position and hence he should be asked to compensate for the wrong doings he has done to a woman and her son. The wishy-washy Tiwari has hoodwinked the entire country with his political poses as minister, governor etc.

Once again congratulations to Rohit Shekhar for 'giving birth' to his illegitimate father.

Ugly spat within the UDF

The spat between Kerala Chief Whip PC George and Congress MLA T N Prathapan over Nelliyampathi issue is an ugly episode within the UDF. But one doesn’t think that it would bring any crisis to the UDF ministry.  UDF itself is a crisis management committee  where minor scuffle  of the George-Prathapan sort has no significance.  Gerge has to be appreciated for one thing for he never weeps like T N Prathapan or T V Rajesh before channels camera  . And George is the only one in the UDF to give immediate retort to any one of his Front or in the Opposition. The Chief Minister Oommen Chany knows this well and that is why he  resorted to silence on the issue.   I think Prathapan and his coterie are much disturbed for not getting any ministerial birth to him or his friend Satheesan and that is why this hullaballoo.  

Interestingly when the mudslinging between two leaders with in the UDF  has  escalated AK Antony from Delhi  said the Congress is a  world wonder. I think it is not actually the Congress but the UDF in Kerala is world wonder . The UDF sustains in Kerala because of the continuous support of Marxists by way of their street  killings and hartals. And nobody fear that the team of four  Congress MLAs, T N Prathapan, V D Satheeshan, Hiby Eden, V T Balram is planning to quit UDF and  join LDF for ministerial birth.

One who watched the channel observes that  nothing  so grave as Prathapan put before a channel woman about calling him as “Deevaran’. If Pulaya, Deevara, Araya, Asari, Mappila etc can co-exist in the society why it is so horrible to name these communities. What George has done is not a big mistake. It is foolish to ask George to realize  the worth of his position and act in a mature manner.

Who misused the police?

CPM State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan  alleges  that the UDF government is trying to destroy his party by misusing the police. The same was the complaint of Ommen Chandy  while LDF was in power. When LDF rule, police association is headed by leftist leaders of the police and while UDF is in power rightists are in the helm of police association. This situation  has started ever since the police formed their association on political backing.

The political association of the police is a sham and in fact it should not be allowed. Do the UDF,  LDF and other political parties have guts to sit together to take a decision against the political affiliation of police?  Think of the case  the Indian Army forming an association similar to one of police with political connection to Congress, BJP and the Communist. What a travesty would be the situation!

The police being used or rather misused as a force against one party by another party, is the design of  politicians and hence they have to bear the brunt.  Politics and democratic elections are needed but not for police who are intended to maintain law and order without the pressure of caste, creed and politics.

Endless hartal

The hartal to protest against the arrest of P jayarajan, the CPM activists resorted to vandalising vehicles, party offices and media centres. During the sporadic violence hartal supporters stoned buses , cars and government offices. The violence on the streets sent a wave of panic among city dwellers and elsewhere in the State. It seems that they have no tomorrow with P jayarajan in jail. It is gripping to see that except a comment from PB member M A Baby  none among the bigwigs of CPM have asked the cadres to observe a peaceful protest. The party activists made the hartal a tough one and it seems that they would declare non-stop hartals because of oncoming arrests of M M Mani, T V Rajesh and else who.

It is unspeakable to see that though the Court has banned bandhs and hartals in the State but  it is still observed with utmost vigour and violence.The hartal observers should immediately be fined for the damages that they have done to the State with their destructive hartal.  The Government should do everything necessary for ensuring security of the people and their property.

Higgs boson and neutrino

According to the Higgs mechanism in the Standard Model, particles in the vacuum acquire mass as they collide with the Higgs boson. Photons (γ) are massless because they do not interact with the Higgs boson. All particles, including electrons (e), muons (μ) and top quarks (t), change handedness when they collide with the Higgs boson; left-handed particles become right-handed and vice versa.

Experiments have shown that neutrinos (ν) are always left-handed. Since right-handed neutrinos do not exist in the Standard Model, the theory predicts that neutrinos can never acquire mass.

In one extension to the Standard Model, left- and right-handed neutrinos exist. These Dirac neutrinos acquire mass via the Higgs mechanism but right-handed neutrinos interact much more weakly than any other particles.

According to another extension of the Standard Model, extremely heavy right-handed neutrinos are created for a brief moment before they collide with the Higgs boson to produce light left-handed Majorana neutrinos.

Thus esults from several recent experiments provide indirect evidence in favor of the existence of a fourth generation neutrino. Such a neutrino with a mass m of about 50 GeV is compatible with current physical and astrophysical constraints and well motivated in the framework of superstring phenomenology.

If sufficiently stable, the existence of such a neutrino leads to a drastic change in Higgs boson physics. The dominant mode of Higgs boson decay is invisible and the branching ratios for the most promising modes of Higgs boson search are significantly reduced. And the  mass of the Higgs boson is greater than 113.5 GeV if the neutrino mass is about 50 GeV.

His dotage underestimated.

The Marxist bosses are playing with the age of leader VS Achuthanandan. They think the octogenarian leader is not too young to make any effective rebellion against the leadership. However they fear that he could upset them again by taking a totally unanticipated line.

‘Mistakes’ done by Acuthuthanadan are only corrective measures against the leadership. But with brut majority in the party the official faction puts the doings of Acuthanandan as mistakes. While Achuthanandan himself has already indicated that he would not admit his “mistake” then why the leadership waiting for VS admit the mistakes publicly?

There are some pre-calculated plans for the official faction of the party against Achuthanandan. Presumably these plans will not work according to their calculation and plan. It will be foolish to underestimate Achuthanandan and his dotage.

It is time for the Kerala Health department to book a good buck by raiding the hotels and way side eateries across state in the wake of the death of one allegedly due to food poisoning after he ate what is called a toxic food Shawarma. Many hotels have been forcefully closed and some are under the threat of closure by officials. For some hoteliers it is a blessing in disguise as they are thinking of closing their hotels because of high price of essential commodities and unavailability of staff.  Interestingly, in this State thousands die drinking toddy and but no toddy shop is seen closed.

Food poisoning is not a new phenomenon and that depends on the health conditions of the user. A good food to one is poison to another as every human body is a unique machine. The eater should understand the capacity of his stomach and body.   The Minister in charge of Health Department could not visit personally all, including Shoby Thilakan, with diarrhea after taking poisonous food.

If Health Department and Food Security Commissioner are so particular to ensure the healthy state of eateries they should first check the sale of ammonia mixed rotten fish.  The road side vendors of fish should be sent to market places with proper drainage and waste disposals. No fish vendor should be permitted to pollute and congest the highway sides with their fish stalls. Remember ninety percent of the high-way side fish vendors are not poor people but contractors and goons. They own pick up vans, freezers, generators, lorries and what else.  Who gave permission to them to park ice-ammonia filled fish lorries on highway sides for all the day?

Keralite’s debt trap

It takes nobody’s sleep when Kerala Finance Minister KM Mani  informs that the total public debt of the State  is  stood at Rs 87,063.83 crore. And as on May 1, 2012 the per-capita burden of public debt on Keralites is Rs 26,067. Minister K M Mani’s contribution to this for the last one year is alone Rs 8,000 crore. For those who watch sky above the head and earth below the foot it is a happy occurrence to see that he is debtor of Rs 26,067.

The UDF and the LDF are very eager to take in charge of the State affairs but none is bothered to bring down the level of borrowings and thus to reduce the debt burden.  They will hurl abusive words on each other for unrestricted borrowings and taking the State to debt trap.

It is high time to restrict all State Finance ministers of the country to limit borrowing.  K M Mani is unfit to his present post not only because of his poor performance as Finance minster but his involvement in the sister Abhaya murder case involving clergies.

Right to Service Act

It is welcome to learn that the Kerala Government has enacted legislation for 'Right to Service' seeking to give every eligible person the right to obtain government services within a time frame.

The time-bound redress of grievances of citizens, delivery of services to the public and making government servants liable in case of default, are really prime issues which are to be seriously looked into. Nevertheless,  what about the plight with of Right to Information Act and Consumer Redrassal Forum?  Except new aspirants none with previous experience would approach these bodies because of the bitter experience from them.

‘All is well that ends well’ is the famous motto. Reversely all is bad that starts well and ends nowhere. No doubt the fate of RSA would be the same that of Consumer courts and RTI.

With Superstar Mohanlal  expressing  his desire to donate his organs, more and more people are likely come forward to donate their organs.  The case of Swathi,  who recovered from a severe liver disease because her aunt’s donation of a slice of her liver, prompted the actor to do the odd.

Nevertheless,  some hospitals are making this organ transplantation  a big thing when many die of ordinary fever and cough. If these people had enough money they would have been saved from death. But fame seeking hospital establishment take little care in dealing with these small business.  Moreover there is no believable statistics about the recovery of those patients who were successfully returned to normal life after organ transplanting surgery.  Except the case of Swathi, reports in this direction are not that much inspiring.

Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) should be complimented for its efforts to save Swathi , however, their insistence  to get Rs 14 lakh for the surgery raises questions because they speak volumes about charity. I believe all things under the propaganda of organ transplantation are not  in the right path. The organ transplant surgery brings fame and money for some but how many lives are saved by this way remain hidden forever.

Tough fight.is unlikely

 CPI(M) leadership is unlikely to take stringent action against VS Achuthanandan, the  senior-most  founder leader of  the party in the entire country.

If the central leadership of the party decides to take any action against VS the possible fallout of such an action is far beyond any reckon.  The party bigwigs should understand the grass root level support to VS otherwise it will be detrimental for the party and the damage will be irreparable. VS followers will not stand unmoving and naturally there will be a law and order problem in the state. What does God particle mean?

What does Higgs boson mean for science is the important question and all other thoughts about naming it as ‘God particle’ is meaningless. If people could admit the discovery of electron, proton, neutron, photon and neutrino they should  also admit the discovery of Higgs boson.

The discovery confirms the Standard Model theory is valid. Other particles predicted by this theory have been confirmed, but the missing Higgs boson was a glaring hole. Now that's closed.  Other aspects of sub-atomic physics and of the cosmos that are unexplained, like dark matter (which makes up 25% of the matter in the universe but has never been seen), dark energy (which makes up 70% of matter in the universe but also has never been located), antimatter, super symmetry (a theory that for every particle there is a heavier twin), etc. With the Higgs boson found, scientists can look at these aspects with more surety. That is, if not a hyperbole a man could soon identify his super twin in the near future. The most well-known force in the universe — gravitation —is still not fully explained. Such issues are still to be cleared with findings on Higgs boson.

The contributory pension and the retirement age hike to 60 are twaddle schemes from the seventy five plus Finance Minister of the State K M Mani. Mani was minister and MLA for several years and what his contribution to the state of Kerala is anybody’s guess The Oommen Chandy government mulling to introduce contributory pension scheme for government employees should be objected out rightly.

To ease the mounting financial burden on the state it is unwise to raise the pension age. What actually needed is the compulsory retirement of those seventy five plus politicians like Mani, Aryadan etc from the cabinet. Their portfolios should be handed over to youngsters of their own party. The aged leaders may be permitted to  do a lot of political work, nevertheless, there should be a moratorium for the work of those very old people as ministers without any tangible contribution the state. If Mani smells an explosive situation in the state because of very large number of pensioners he could relinquish the post of Finance minister and if not willing he could make arrangement to decapitate the pensioners!

What Mani and Chandy said when UDF ministry sworn in, about creating 25000 additional jobs in the State, stands as a joke and none is now bothered about it.

People need no living proof.

The ongoing rift between government chief whip P.C.George and Forest Minister K B Ganesh Kumar has gone beyond the limit. Both are washing dirty linen in public. The statement in the Assembly made by minister Ganesh Kumar on Nellyampathy is a government stand then why does  the chief whip  make such a  hullabaloo? It is quite obnoxious on the part of George to drag personal matters of the minister into the issue.

If personal matters of the ministers and other leaders are the subjects of public discussion then many have to buy fresh dhotis to cover their head.  If George holds “living proof” of the minister’s “bad character” he should keep them in his bank locker otherwise Ganesh must also open his wallet containing George’s bad character. The people of Kerala are no longer ready to smell the rotten holdings of these culpable politicians.

Quizzing the police!

It is the duty of the police to summon and question the suspected persons involved in criminal incidents and in no case the suspected or his acquaintance would quiz the police. Nevertheless the Kannur Marxists are creating history by quizzing the police when summoned. Several channels telecasted the show where  ‘subhan fame’ CPM Kannur leader M V Jayarajan  quizzing the police about administering iron rod into the anus of the suspected.

And his later clarification at a press meet that he did not use threatening words and his gesture against SIT memebers  was quite polite, is funny. It is a wonder that still these leaders have ardent followers.

Mistaken identity.

Those who have identified ‘ Masala Dosa’ as an entry among ten foods to be tasted before one dies, have not seen too many foods.  The food item ‘Puttu-Kadala’ cooked in steam is  healthier and tastier than oil-cooked masala dosa. The promoters of masala dosa should, therefore, visit Kerala again and taste puttu-kadala  to correct their mistaken identity.

No maths or physics on Thursdays!

Bizarre are the findings of the researchers all over the world. For instance look at recommendation of Russia's chief sanitary doctor Gennady Onishchenko. According to him  Schools should not teach difficult subjects like mathematics and physics to children on Thursdays.  Children have their own bio-rhythms and Thursday is the hardest day of the week to learn subjects like mathematics and physics as these subjects require a heavier load on the brain.

Interestingly the finding about Higgs boson, which is purely physics, was published on Thursday ignoring the findings of the Russian Doctor. Certainly the children would find it hard to comprehend the matter with their highly strained Thursday’s brain. And there are some stupid educational visionaries unknowingly about bio-rhythms follow weekly rotation time table in their schools and colleges instead of the day’s time table.

Hullabaloo over teachers’ dress.

The government circular to woman teachers to turn up at a function in a set-saree and green blouse has invited much debate; subsequently the Ernakulam district education official who issued it was placed under suspension. This  hullabaloo is mainly due to the high-handedness of IUML in all its acts in the  Congress-led government of Kerala. Education port-folio is handled by Muslim League minister P.K. Abdu Rabb and green is the official colour of the IUML.

In Kerala all political parties and communal outfits have taken in possession certain colours as their own official colour. For instance green is the official colour of Muslim League, red for Communist parties, pale yellow for the SNDP, deep or golden yellow for the BJP and the NSS, white for Christians etc. The stars and the planets are also divided communally as moon is owned by Muslims, star by Christians, sun by the Hindus. So it is imperative to have a dress code for all students and teachers for all days of the week. I, therefore, suggest set-saree and white blouse for teachers on Monday, light yellow on Tuesday, golden yellow on Wednesday, red on Thursday and green on Friday.  Saturday and Sunday are blouse-less days. And there is no such restriction for male teachers as they have no job in schools except organisational activities.

Unnecessary exercise by Pranab

I couldn’t understand the logic of UPA presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee visiting Kerala for his poll campaign and to meet Kerala Chief Minister, MLAs and MPs. When all the probable votes are analysed and counted what is the fun in campaigning for election. Even if he does not meet leaders and legislators of political parties he will get all votes except those of CPI and RSP.

As the Finance Minister of the country and the second in the Central Ministry he did n't get an opportunity to visit this State. Probably this may be due to the weekly tour of Kerala leaders to Delhi. Nevertheless, the presidential election is a chance for Keralites to meet Pranab in person in their home state.

Reorganise educational system

It is time to reorganise our educational system in schools and colleges destroyed by the DPEP and the subsequent grading system. The grading system in schools is a big folly as there is little healthy competition among students to excel themselves and exhibit their ability. All thrashes are placed in A grade and hence  hard-working children are humiliated.

Though more institutions are opened in unaided sector the quality of education has been dwindled by the poor quality of teachers. When government and aided schools pay good salary for the teacher unaided schools give only meagre sum as salary for teachers. In colleges the guest lecturers are doing the good chunk of job while the senior teachers simply relax with little job.  Though there is good infrastructure in some of the Arts and Science Colleges in the State students are not attracted for conventional courses. It is time to replace the grading system into conventional marking system and the students passing with ranks and distinctions should be honoured for their good work. Efforts to rebuild our entire system are very urgent otherwise our students would turn into lazy idiots having no vision for the future.

A review for examination system  should be considered  by appointing external  examiners and all the irregularities made by some self-financing colleges for hundred percent  result should be checked.  A university should not open its off-campus facilities in the premise of another university. It is not necessary to invite foreign universities to set up their complexes of our State, and if there is enough money for one to join a foreign university he should be permitted go abroad and study. More awards and scholarships must be instituted to attract more students to studies of pure sciences.  The college and school teachers should be further trained, and they should be restricted not to involve  active politics. We need no Professor Ministers. We need only professors who are good teachers.
