Storm in the tea cup.
It seems that Indian Federalism is in the hands of a few chief ministers of the country who, by their hitherto rule, have not contributed much to the progress of the country. Jayalalithaa, Narendra Modi and Naveen Patnaik huddling together at Tamil Nadu House for sake of federalism is only a storm in the tea cup. Their bargaining is only for separate independent states with in the country where none should question their supremacy
If Centre’s plan to use the BSF in counter-Maoist operations by giving it policing powers in the interiors, is a contention for the CMs, then they should suggest an alternatives to counter insurgent operations.
As all know Modi hasn’t abandoned the classical Jan Sangh line that advocated a strong Centre. Hence his effort to acquire respectability in the non-Congress political spectrum is unlikely. Jayalalitha’s sole objective is to keep away Karunanidhi and company from St George Fort and for that no countrywide coordination is necessary.
The CMs’ meet at Centre is thus only a slapstick event lacking any political significance.
