Blow to CBI

It may be a setback to the anti-corruption campaign of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the CBI court sentencing former party president, Bangaru Laxman, to four years of imprisonment and a fine of a Rs 1-lakh This is only a tip of the ice-berg as many leaders of all political parties in the country are involved in similar crimes.
I mean the sentence will have an all-India impact. The court’s decision will affect all the political parties across the country.

However, Laxman73  need not be afraid of jail term if he prefers a prison in Kerala where the law prohibits to put a person above the age of 75 in prison. The remaining two years can be smoothly sailed over by appeal and further court proceedings!

Ask now, dear voters of Neyyattinkara.

Both UDF and LDF in Kerala for over one month were brooding over burning problems of the common man as  the UDF was busy with their ‘mela’ of  internal fighting and CPM was busy with their party Rs 10 crore ‘megamela’.  Now they have wrapped up all and focussed their attention to the June 2 by-poll in Neyyattinkara Assembly constituency.

The CPM has stepped up its attack against the UDF for casteist and religious preferences after their leaders M A Baby and Kodiyeri visited palaces of Bishops. The Congress led UDF have shown its  ‘secularism’ by distributing portfolios religiously and communally.
The NSS general secretary saying that State Congress president Ramesh Chennithala is qualified to be Chief Minister and at the same time he chooses ‘right distance policy’are interesting to watch.

It is election time, so the advice  to the voters of Neyyaattinkara is to remember the famous biblical saying, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you”(Matthew 7:7). I mean if you ask for a road you will get it, seek for a water pipe you will find it, and knock for good ration rice you will get it. Once the election is over, no front will mind you. Because the UDF has to continue their internal fight and the CPM of the LDF has to carry on the VS-Pinarayi wrestle.

Mammootty is our new saviour!

Marxists were, until recently, of opinion that the TN model cinema politics will not run here in Kerala as most people are literate. Now the Marxist identified that all the people abandoned their sensibility in consequence of their rule and of their predecessors. And that is why they started thinking of fielding megastar (or gigastar?) Mammootty as an independent candidate of the Left in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The CPI(M) wants Mammootty to contest in Ernakulam constituency but they are ready to leave the choice of the seat to the star. The implication is the incumbent Latin Catholic MP Sebastian Paul will be a whole time contributor to Madyma Vijaram and channel interviews. To earn one’s livelihood a person need not be always an MP. Then, what will be the fate of the other Latin Catholic blue-eyed boy MP from Alappuzha? Reservation for Latin Catholics is only in rule books and not for practice!

The cinema viewers of Kerala have dejected seeing Mammootty running as lover after cute girls of such a tender age of his grand daughter. So it is good for him and his congregation to see him as an MP working for the uplift of entire people.
Nevertheless, before jumping into election fray Mammootty should contemplate on the prospects CPM in the next election as undercurrents not so enthusiastic for the ruling front.
Let Mammootty, the new Messiah, save the people and the party.

Election musings

The politicians of India lost their sleep by reviewing about impending Lok Sabha elections. In Kerala a special phenomenon known as the Kerala yatras which often occur before election time intended to woo the voters, did not made much impacts other than shedding off overweight by leaders and collecting money in the form notes-garlands. Interestingly these yathras would turn into hartals after the election. The Election Commission dictate to not disturb the voters often fell into the deaf year as politicians forcefully started collecting fund for electioneering. Loud speaker announcement in moving vehicle is banned but it happens profusely.

Election days are the time for politicians ask money and votes from own party men and threaten those who are unwilling to vote in favour with a huge sum of money as donation. The Election Commission should evolve arrangement to restrict politicians asking money with out proper receipt and any receipt is issued for an unreasonable amount should be checked. If the donation exceeds a logical sum the candidate from the party should be made invalid. Asking undue amount as donation is more than a crime to write on the walls of the building with out the permission of the owner.

MK-the assassin’s friend

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi is known for his creative work such as writing fictions and screen plays. As this art is purely based on fancies, at old age this ability may be deteriorated by memory loss. By saying Velupillai Prabhakaran is not a terrorist MK has shown symptoms of memory loss. How can a branded enemy of India become friend of Mr Karunanidhi? The sheer vote bank politics are taking one to dogs.

Prabhakaran is a cold- blooded assassin and is responsible for killing tens of thousands of innocent civilians within his country and outside. Even if Priyanka Gandhi absolves her father’s killer Prabhakaran for a few votes for Congress party and its allies the people of India could not sell their esteem by agreeing with Muthuvel Karunanidhi. Prabhakaran is an adversary of India and if Karunanidhi feels Prabhakaran as his friend, then it is impending to treat Karunanidhi for memory loss.

Electronic voting needed

At present electronic voting is restricted only in the use of EVMs. For smooth and effective voting web based voting can be set up. This not only reduces problems related to booth voting but increases voter turnout. Number of voters abandoning polling stations due to fear of poll related violence can be thus avoided. Moreover old and sick persons can cast their votes from their homes or other places of convenience. .

The Election Commission of India should, therefore, develop a web based electronic voting software and be installed on the web site of Election Commission of India. It shall contain all polling booths of the country with names and other details of e-voters. Any voter can register himself as e-voter if he knows the use of web site. A minimum educational qualification can be also stipulated for this and Election Commission should provide an ID and password to legitimate applicants just like bank ATM cards. The possession of a bank ATM card can be even considered as the eligibly to earn a voter e-card. The electronic voters may be permitted to vote on the voting day from a place of their choice and others may be asked to call on the polling booths.
.
Web-based voting further avoids loss of working days, time and money. However full-pledged e-voting in the country is possible when all are educated. In all probability it will take another one or two decades if one consider the progress brought about by a choice of rulers of the country since Independence.

Accept the inevitable, dear soap artists.

Accept the inevitable, dear soap artists.

It is pointless to cry over the work loss of about 5000 independent artistes and technicians involved in the production of Malayalam television serials and family soaps because their fate is inevitable. Like wise the persons behind reality shows will become jobless when these shows to lose their popularity. It is wise, of course, not as punishment for spoiling the society with their soap operas, these people should think of other jobs. Here in the state there are govt-sponsored jobs such as lottery ticket vending and these soap artists too can do it. Why there was none to cry when thousands of printing press owners and their composers went jobless with the advent of desk top printing. Had any one thought of those cinema operators who went jobless when majority of the B and C class theatres closed?

These are all part of world change similar to climate change and the soap artists too have to become accustomed to it.

COndolence at the death of my friend Dr K K Sudevan

It was with a great feeling of loss when I heard of sudden demise of my friend K K Sudevan, the director, K R Gouri Amma College of Engineering, Valamangalam, Thuravoor. My heart is truly distraught.

Sudevan was more than just a humble and wonderful person; he was always so kind and considerate to me that I always welcomed seeing him at every occasion. He was my class mate in standard ten of High School, Kandmangalam. We were the only the two first classes from standard XB of the school in the SSLC examination of 1968 March. Our class teacher was Damodaran Sir. Sudevan’s paintings on the life cycle of frog was pasted on walls of the class room by Damodaran sir and asked us to learn from it. Radha Teacher, wife of Damodaran sir, was our Malayalam teacher. Rajappan sir and Valiya Thampan sir taught us Mathematics. The lessons we learned from the class were the same. However, he fathomed more miles than me with his intelligence and tireless effort. He was a professor at an Engineering college, Mumbai before joining at Valamangalam Engineering College as director.

His passing will not only leave a void in our lives, but in the hearts of all those who knew him. He was a true follower of Sree Narayana Guru. His association with Thaickal Muslim church, Thankey Christian Church, and Kandamangalam temple will be ever remembered. He was a man of vision and secular thoughts. Sudevan will always remain within my heart

My sincere prayers for my friend.

Beauty of tobacco

How fast man’s awareness changes? So far it is said that use of tobacco is prone to cancer. Now it has been proved tobacco is useful. An Israeli scientist has developed a substance from the tobacco plant that could be used for beauty improvement and other medical purpose. It is Prof Oded Shoseyov of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem who succeeded in producing this beauty substance from tobacco plants.

With this discovery, no doubt, our cosmetic world would take a new life. Those celebrities who spend tens of thousands of rupees for their cosmetic need would make a large savings out of this.

Sachin in Rajya Sabha

SachinTendulkar’s nomination as a member of the Rajya Sabha is a crafty decision to make up the tarnished image of the already corrupt Manmohan Singh government. Sachin keeps an admirable image among all Indians and his entry into RS may likely to spoil his good will as the atmosphere in the law making houses in India is not conducive for a person ofvision and adoration from people of all walks of life. He can be honoured with Bharat Ratna but not to be smeared with mud in political houses. .

And one believes Sachin’s entry to RS may not reduce the sky rocketed prices of essential commodities in the country. It is hoped that it may not become a ploy of Congress party to use Sachin for Gujrat elections and next LS elections.
