The recent black flag protest organized by the Students Federation of India (SFI) against Governor Arif Mohammed Khan in Kerala is indeed deplorable. Although protests are a fundamental aspect of democratic societies, the use of black flags to symbolize opposition can be considered disrespectful and undermines the decorum of civil discourse.
Additionally, targeting a constitutional authority such as the governor sets a worrying precedent. This risks eroding the principles of governance and respect for institutional roles. It is imperative that all stakeholders engage in respectful dialogue and defend the democratic values that underpin our society.
The protest also reflects broader tensions within Kerala's political landscape. It highlights polarization and ideological divisions. The SFI and other political actors should seek avenues for meaningful dialogue and debate to address grievances.
And why the Chief Minister is still not condemning his party's student wing's protest against the Governor seems curious. CM's single word NO was enough to end the SFI black flag protest and the resulting street brawl between students and police.
