With her candidature to Kerala Assembly Electtion 2011, it is certain that 92-year-old K.R. Gouri Amma has made history and she is a sure entry to the Guinness Book of World Records. Gouri Amma is the only candidate to contest all the assembly elections since the state first went to polls in 1957.The leader of the Janathipathiya Samrakshana Samithy will contest the April 13 elections from Cherthala constituency in Alappuzha district.
Gouri Amma’s candidature has raised many an eyebrow for she contesting at such an old age when most other individuals retire from all activities at 60 or 70 at the most. The energy she gives to all others is very much as it persuades unoccupied people to do something rewarding in life. Though she was expelled from the Marxist party in 1994, the Marxist leaders now cornering her is just because of her unbridled courage and positive attitude to human life.
She coming to Cherthala, where she won in the first election, has much significance as the chance for one more election is presumably unviable. Long live Gouri Amma and her optimistic outlook.
