The LDF in Kerala has become a house of ruin. It is to lose one more of its allies with Kerala Congress-J merging with Mani Congress, a constituent of the Congress-led Opposition UDF. The KC-J is the fourth ally of the LDF to leave the ruling front in the past four years. How could a party remain in a sinking boat? However, Joseph’s decision to leave the LDF is one of the unkindest betrayals in the political history of Kerala. The protest from the Congress leaders against the merger is in the right direction and no additional seat should be spared for the Mani-Joseph ally.
Joseph’s decision to leave the LDF is a breather for P C Thomas, yet another epitome of opportunism. It is reported that clergies were behind the merger move between the parties of Mani and Joseph. If Christian clergies are eager to keep Joseph in Mani’s fold why can’t they pay heed to the other ardent faithful P C Thomas? In fact high priests of the Catholic Church have more business in politics than leading the community in faith matters
Again, it is wonderful enough to see the statement of State Congress president Ramesh Chennithala that he was yet to receive any formal information on the merger move of Joseph and Mani. Does he mean a fax from Mani in this regard?
