It is not a wonder that one Sub-Inspector and two
policemen had been placed under suspension after they demanded bribe from
Superintendent of Police in disguise. Kannur Superintendent of Police Rahul R
Nair should be congratulated for showing the way to the corrupt officers. More
officers like Mr Nair are needed in other districts of Kerala too.
In Kerala it is not a surprise that most of the
middle level police officers are involved in corruption. There are several
complaints about them demanding bribes from sand mafia, liquor mafia and kingpin
of sex rackets. Strict surveillance should be resorted to nab the corrupt
within the police force.
