There was a kurtha-cladded minister in the last Achuthanandan
Ministry who asked PWD engineers to count potholes on roads and put them in the
web site. Though it was described as Thuglakkian Kerala model it was intended to
illustrate the people the enthusiasm the minister had in filling up the potholes.
The present minister Ibrahim Kunju is least interested in counting holes as it
would reach nowhere.
The potholed roads in the entire State have made vehicle journey
a tough task and even pedestrians find it very hard to walk near by the road. Most roads have become a dreadful experience
for motorists. The roads that were re-tarred just about one week ago are again in
a deplorable state. With none to supervise the repair work crores of rupees are
wasted on the roads. The advantage is for PWD contractors, doctors and the
motor mechanics. The doctors are to attend innumerable accident cases and motor
mechanics are busy with vehicle repair work.
The minister in charge PWD should give up his sleep and
do something immediately to protect motorists from road accidents.
