Sir — The streets of Alappuzha in Kerala are overflowing with waste. Commuters are having a difficult time going about their daily business. Fish vendors throw waste on the streets in full knowledge of the municipality. Given the deplorable drainage system in the locality, this practice creates a mammoth problem for the residents. When a person filed an application under the Right to Information Act with the local panchayat secretary, he was allegedly attacked brutally by a gang of fish vendors. The rulers of ‘god’s own country’ do not seem to be bothered.
