Matthew 5:38-39 reads “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also”.
It appears that the KCBC Prolife Commission is interested in the former part {Exodus 21:24} of this teaching rather than the latter. They urged the Church leadership, religious orders and other humanitarian organisations to back the idea 'children are wealth'. They asked the diocesan authorities to enhance the benefits to those who have more children and to promote activities like providing fee concession for the third child of a family, full maternity expense for the fourth child and yearly deposit of Rs 5,000 for the fifth child. The decision of the KCBC is on the backdrop of the draconian bill drafted by the 12-member committee headed by V R Krishna Iyer recommending provisions for imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 for fathering a third child.
Seemingly, it is an eye for an eye and tooth for tooth.
