On November 26, 2008, terrorist attacks in Mumbai killed 164 people and left many injured. Again, serial explosions that ripped through the city on July 13 have left at least 18 people dead and many injured. In 2008 the attacks were carried out by Pakistani terrorists sent into Mumbau by the Lashkar-e-Tayyeba with the active support and help of the ISI. The perpetrators of the latest terror attack are yet to be identified. Of course, it reflects poorly on our intelligence network, notwithstanding the Home Minister’s blatant refusal to accept it.
It is high time the Government faced the reality and banned all communal outfits in the country. It must also revamp security and intelligence agencies in order to make sure that such attacks never happen again. The Government’s tall talk of having improved the internal security apparatus and put in place a stronger intelligence system in the post-26/11 scenario stands exposed.
