The failure of the Thrissur Pooram event due to high-handedness reflects a systemic issue within both the police force and the Home Department. Merely transferring a couple of police officials does not absolve the government of responsibility.
This incident underscores a deeper problem of ineffective oversight and accountability within the Home Department, where such lapses are allowed to occur. The government's attempt to address the issue solely through personnel transfers demonstrates a lack of commitment to addressing the root causes of the problem.
Without meaningful reforms and structural changes, similar incidents are likely to recur,. And that would undermine public trust in both law enforcement and government institutions.
