The two major institutions of democracy, Supreme Court and Election Commission, have given their ruling against religion and caste based poll campaigning in the country. But when comes to the implementation stage it utterly fails.
When BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj or BJP leader AN Radhakrishnan have invoked religion in their public addresses no institution has interfered. There are many leaders from other parties too speaking publicly invoking religion but chances of filing FIR against them are remote.
So more stringent measures are needed to stop political leaders from invoking religion and castes to be the centerpiece of pre-poll campaigning.
India is a highly conservative society wherev religion and castes are deeply embedded in the psyche of people. They play a vital role in promoting and consolidating group consciousness . So chances of hate speech are more and hence a hard line approach is to be opted to curb the menace of religion entering into politics.
