The Supreme Court’s dismissal of Swiss pharmaceutical Company Novartis AG's petition seeking patent protection for its anti-cancer drug is most welcome. No company should be allowed to exploit the patients with patent of the drug that is used in the treatment of chronic diseases. The company’s action to exploit patients with myeloid leukaemia and malignant gastrointestinal tumours is a cruelty.
The right for manufacturing generic drugs should be given to all companies that are interested in it. All drug formulae should be treated as mere cooking recipes.
