The Piravom war thus came to an end. The Ruling United Democratic Front retained the seat with Anoop Jacob registering a victory with a margin of 12,070 votes over his rival. The Left leaders’ broadcast that the by-election would turn as a Waterloo for the UDF government has become a waterloo for themselves. And it is time for LDF to make a U-turn in their policies and acts.
Regarding the record percentage of 86.3 in the by-election, both the leaders in the UDF and the LDF had claimed that the high per cent polling would help them to win the election. And now LDF leaders can swallow their words without water. However, the result of the election would have been different if Mani was able to present his anti-youth budget before March 17.
For Finance Minister Mani youths mean his son Jose K Mani,Ommen Chandy’s son Chandy Oommen and late Jacob’s son Anoop Jacob. All are now well placed and that is why pension age has been hiked from 55 to 56. K M Mani subtly cutting down on capital outlay while claiming otherwise is a blow to common man. Though won the Piravom election Oommen Chandy and Mani fooled all educated job-seeking youths and sneakily pick-pocketed the common man.
