The encounter killing of five men, allegedly involved in bank robberies by the Chennai police is shocking. The whole episode resembles what happened in Gujarat in the case of Izrat Jahan case. When police force outnumbers the robbers why did the police resort to the extreme punishment? The Chennai police that killed the robbers should be brought under scanner and they should be subjected to lie detecting test.
If such encounters are permitted it would lead to the wiping out of political opponents by use of police force. The failure of the police to catch anyone of the robbers live is suspicious and a thorough investigation about the whole episode is needed.
