Sir—The ‘Raja of Manda’, the former Prime Minister of India, Vishawnath Partap Singh, is no more. Though the upper class reviled him for the Mandal Commission, he lives on in the hearts of millions of poor Indians. He was responsible for changing the political landscape of India by implementing the Mandal Commission’s report, which provided the benefit of reservation to the OBCs. He will be remembered for spearheading the cause of social justice and his efforts to uplift the downtrodden of India. The nation has lost a great leader. The Bihar Government declared a public holiday on November 29 when the former Prime Minister was cremated, but no other Indian State did. Is this the usual way of observing the last rites of all former Prime Ministers of the country?
