BJP prime ministerial candidate LK Adavani’s stance on POTA is unacceptable. Though POTA might be useful in keeping many miscreants in custody, it will not provide a viable solution for ending terrorism. Instead it will be misused by those in power to settle scores with their political opponents. Existing laws are sufficient to combat terrorism in the country. The problem is that these laws are never strictly adhered to. The law enforcement agencies should show the courage to book anti-national elements in spite of their political affiliations. Also, political parties need to unite on this issue and not play politics for selfish gains.
