#Guardians of tradition
The sudden discovery of devotion by the very people who once wore their atheism like a badge, now conducting Ayyappa Summit deserves an additional chapter to written in their names in the Puranas.
Pinarayi Vijayan and Minister Vasavan, who spent nine long years refusing even a token bow before Lord Ayyappa, now parade themselves as chief priests of the international summit. If irony were camphor, it could light the whole of Sabarimala for a hundred Mandalams. Their newfound bhakti is less about piety and more about political cosmetics, sprinkled with the holy ash of election season.
And what a summit it promises to be! Those who once cheered the trampling of traditions and filed cases against namajapa protesters now claim to be the guardians of sanctity. Instead of withdrawing the cases, they garland them with silence, while loudly chanting the slogans of “tradition” to hoodwink devotees.
The Global Ayyappa Meet under their stewardship is less about protecting faith and more about staging a grand drama, with the organisers themselves as the least believable actors in the play.
