The move by the Kerala government to hike the
pension age of government employees and college professors is detrimental. The
unemployed youths of Kerala would be in utter despair and sorrow by the
thoughtless budge of the government. The present proposal is a backtrack from
the earlier stand of the government that any decision about pension age hike
would be based only on consensus with the youths. I want to know what consensus
the government has reached with unemployed youths by this time. Raising the
retirement age would affect a large number of educated unemployed youths in the state.
In a state like Kerala, increasing the retirement
age would lead to a dangerous situation. And if retirement age is hiked it
would lead to unforeseen protests and that will mark the end of the UDF
government.
