India’s spectacular victory
India’s spectacular victory in the world cup finals was witnessed by millions all over the world. Some made it to the Wankhede stadium; many others watched the game on their television sets. It was also heartening to see that the final was not won by Sachin Tendulkar but was won for him by his younger colleagues.
Both Indians and Sri Lankans prayed for victory. But some prayers were ignored, notably, those of the Sri Lankan president, Mahinda Rajapaksa. However, some of the hype around cricket could be reduced. India needs another sport, such as football, to balance the hysteria around cricket.
